    Dear FZ,
Thanks much for your fiercly incisive and unbiaesd commentary.
The bigger and fundamental prblem in today's world, in my humble opinion. is rationalization of statesand policies on the basis of religious beliefs. By definition religions are beliefs that can never be proven right or wrong, but meantime followers of a given religion believes that only their version is the ultimate "truth". Accordingly, everyone else is wrong and misguded. This blinding convinction leads to extreme intolerance and hatred, and ultimately to gruesome violence.

Look no further than Iran and Israel. It is aburdly true that the state of Israel and its atrocious actions are essentially based on the prophecies of the Jewish faith. Iranian policies, but not the state, is guded the same way albeit in light of the Shiite Muslim faith. Pursuing a faith is legitimate but inlficting savagery on that basis is irrational and shoudl be unacceptable. Unfortuantely, eventhe world's only superpower, the USA, blindly finances and arms the irrational state of Israel for no apparnet strategic reason. israel is a democracy is a flase argument. Not only the USA props up all non-democratic dictatorial rogue regimes in the mid-east, but how can a democracy be based on people of one given faith at the cost of holding millions of another faith in ruthless captivity for decades? Also, Hamas is democratically elected, so shouldn't USA support the extremist policies of Hamas?

Having said that, I do respect the Jewish faith and support their legitimate grievances. [In fact I have had many excellent Jewsih friends and colleagues]. However, I simply cannot see the rationality of Isareli and US policies in the mideast.
