Absolutely amazing! Putting Barak Hussein Obama into office is the equivelant of letting a 6 year old play in a gun shop... This guy obviously has no clue as to what the job requires as shown by his lack of judgement in choices for his cabinet and associations through out his life, and a wife who openly speaks of her lack of pride for the country for which the Obamagasma media elected as first lady. What I find amazing is that he won't give a dime to help his brother, yet my african american freinds are under the impression he's going to give you the world??? I don't get it, but after watching all that's going on now in his former state (IL) I'm starting to understand what a few extra billion can buy you... when will people (liberals) wake up and realize this guy is nothing more than a smooth, stuttering lawyer out to set up himself and his family financially for the future. I just find it sad that the country many men and women have died to keep safe will be now left in the hands of this ignorant child, and as a result millions more could die. This is truly a sad time for America.

It was said that the goal of the terrorist was to bring down the US economy by striking the twin towers. Conspirators or not, Bush Cheny have implimented the end result, the terrorist won.

    • Posted By: DoMaNo @ 01/14/2009 8:36:14 PM

wonder what would have happened if the Bush/Cheney team didn't have the balls to strike at the terrorists... We could have been hit again (remember, there have been numerous attempts) and our economy could have crated back in 2002 or 2003... Everyone would be crying, Bush should have done something. Be proud as an American that Bush stood up and did the right thing and protected each and every one of us - keeping our constitution in tack!

      • Posted By: chephtommy @ 01/14/2009 9:59:16 PM

        The constitution has been gutted.

          In what way?

I didn???t vote for Bush/Cheney either times???. I???m a registered Democrat. But Bush/Cheney haven???t committed nearly the unpardonable things that so many have accused them of??? and not nearly as bad as some of the presidents before them??? it???s just that most Americans don???t know their history??? or understand the Difficult Choices that these men have to make in order to protect our country during times when it is fragile and vulnerable.
Vulnerable?... you may ask? Yes, Vulnerable??? If you ever have the courage and the balls to listen to me, I will tell you what it is like to look out your office window one beautiful, sunny morning, after an Explosion Rocks Your Building in NYC, --
*to See The Sky Raining Balls Of Fire*
to see People Burning In The Streets,
to See Them Jumping To Their Deaths,
    to See A Towering Inferno,
to Be Trapped In The Stairwell During Evacuation With Hundreds Of People Crushing You,
to Run For Your Life From A Collapsing Tower,
to Run In The Street From Being Trampled By The Hundreds Coming At You,
to Pull A Frightened, Crazed, Crying Man From Being Hit By An Oncoming Ambulance,
to See Fighter Jets Above Your Head Not Knowing If They Are Enemy Or Not,
to Know That You Are A Sitting Duck In The Midst Of Absolute Terror???
TO LOOK AT THE FACES OF EVERY SINGLE PERSON AROUND YOU AND SEE THE UNSPEAKABLE SORROW AND TERROR AND PAIN AND HELPLESSNESS THAT EACH OF US IS FEELING??? AND THAT THIS FEELING AND MEMORY LIVES WITH US UNTIL THE DAY WE DIE OR NO LONGER HAVE MEMORY.
    Shall I go on?

Thank God Cheney was pragmatic. Woe to us now that we will surely endure endless hairsplitting and lawyering of these issues.

Does any liberal out there REALLY think terrorists are sitting in their caves thinking about the 'proper' way to kill western infidels? Do you think they really care about humanitarian values? You don't bring bare knuckles to a switchblade fight.

The difference between Obama and Bin Laden is simply that Bin Laden's main concern is NOT whether or not he ends up getting a book deal, and fat fees on the lecture circuit after his term is up.

Woe to you and not me or my family, you racist.

I read this article and shake my head. It is very bias and one sided. But this is not new to the scene. There has not been a well published news broad cast or paper since the end of WW11. So for a period of 50 plus years the media and American minds have been swayed and thoughts of fighting for freedoms can come without costs.
People with terroristic attitudes, people who feel all other races of people in the world are infidels and must die, if you kill any of the infidels while killing yourself is considered a holy sacrifice. People who have no care about who they kill, (even their own women and children as shields). I am supposed to praise them and welcome them with open arms and do the ???OH poor you!??? when one of them dies. I think not!!! A terrorist has no rights! Nor should they have any. If they have info to hurt us with, please find it out. Please use this information to protect those that would be hurt from the next attack. Terroristic people and countries hate our government for stopping them, but are the first with their hands out when they want help or feel they need it.
When was the last time you saw a headline of the great things we have done for allot of people in this world? When was it the top story of our news media to show what our military or government did to save all the people while we was under attack and had to stop the bad people, terrorist, murdering pillagers they are. When was the top story about removing huge weapon cashes from schools and hospitals? When was the last time you saw a count of all the schools reopened, hospitals, universities, fresh water, water treatment plants, mines cleared, snipers shot, families able to walk the streets again.
What other country in this great big world gives more humanitarian aid then we do? Do you think that if we did not have support from our government to give the aid in such amounts it would be possible? If we allow terrorist to attack us and we needed allot of help. Who is going to step up and give us all the medical, food, water, money, military backing and training to get things re-established so we can get back on our feet? Who is going to fight for your freedoms? What cost are you willing to fight for your freedoms? Or give them up? At what cost, to keep the USA safe from attacks? Understand who we are talking about here as a terrorist and what it takes to stop someone who does not care about you or me to kill us at any cost any time or anywhere. Understand who you are bad mouthing and for what reason. Please do not disgrace all the great people of the past who have sacrificed, bled and died to make this country safe so you can speak out with the freedom of speech. Please think about what you are saying and what it cost for you to live here! Then bad mouth the right people who do not want the rights and freedoms we should have in this world. Do not get me wrong, we have our own problems but give credit when credit is due.

Do you listen to news apart from Fox news? You and your cohorts have been brain washed in believing that killing others because you think they might kill you, is fighting for freedom is naive, and ignorance of world politics. For America to fight terrorism, it must start from Saudi Arabia, period.

Now that America has switched political parties, all that power doesn't look so bad. Newsweek is already making excuses for the man they helped elect.

"Some of them may be dangerous, but impossible to convict of any crime in any ordinary court of law" If a person has not committed a crime what is it that makes them dangerous? The friend they keep? The church they attend? The ideals they hold to be true? A just society cannot imprison a person just because they might someday commit a crime, after all they might someday find a cure for cancer instead.

  • Posted By: Suzanne25 @ 01/14/2009 10:10:17 PM

It's easy enough to respect the Constitution when everything is going smoothly. The true test of our country's most sacred secular document is how it's treated when things are going badly! And the true test of men like Bush and Cheney is what they do at the first sign of trouble. If they take the Constitution and rip it to shreds, because we're at war, did that piece of paper ever really mean anything? To most of us it means everything, and anyone who can't treat it with respect should be investigated, and prosecuted, to the full extent of the law. That includes, first and foremost, Bush and Cheney. And if this nation doesn't confront this issue, the next time you'll be hearing about it will be when the World Court in the Hague indict Bush and Cheney as war criminals. And not a moment too soon!

  • Posted By: Maryprest @ 01/14/2009 10:08:01 PM

"Some of them may be dangerous, but impossible to convict of any crime in any ordinary court of law"? If a person has not committed a crime, then how or why would you consider them dangerous? what criteria are you using to define danger. The friends a person keeps? the ideals they hold to be true? their religion? Perhaps just their country of birth. No just society can survive by imprisoning people because they might someday commit a crime. After all they might someday find a cure for cancer instead.

I do not like the way you just throw "the Bush administration's abuses" out there like it is a fact. It is not, if it were so I'm sure there would have been more legal action and strong comments from congree on the matter. The point is mistakes took place, but in the final analysis the job is getting done and we should have hit harder. Good luck Mr. Obama running on feel good politics. Here comes the 3r term of the Clinton's.

  • Posted By: grrgto @ 01/14/2009 9:30:11 PM

Funny how Clinton allowed the 1st WTC attack and only Cheney said "Enough is enough" after the 2nd one!

    • Posted By: YashBudini @ 01/14/2009 9:43:15 PM

If that where really true a nuke on Afgahistan would have made the point better, but if we had done that billions would not have gone to Halliburton. No wonder the war goes on and the H gets rich, while the victims of fear cheer for them.

      • Posted By: random_thoughts @ 01/14/2009 10:03:54 PM

Um, I'm pretty sure that "nuking" an entire country is not the answer... There are actually so many reasons why I think that, that I don't even feel like typing them all out. I'm sure if you think about hard enough, you'll figure some of them out...

  • Posted By: Newsweek Pundit @ 01/14/2009 9:28:05 PM

How many 9/11's were there before 9/11? That's right zero. Is it a big surprise that there's been none since?

    • Posted By: NoRedLenses @ 01/14/2009 10:03:44 PM

Yea! Exactly! See, Carter must have been a GREAT pres cuz there were no on-soil US attacks then! And Johnson and Kennedy must have been EXCELLENT presidents cuz there were no on-soil attacks then. And FDR must have been THE FGREATEST PESIDENT IN HISTORY .. for that matter, he must have been the best world leader ion the history of the civilized world cuz even during an ENTIRE WORLD WAR the US never got attacked once we goit involved. We were even head-deep involved in the war and didn't get hit. So FDR must have been the greatest free world leader in the history of all of Earth! And we went to the Moon when Johnson was still in so he must have been a good astronaught too.

Holy Crap. Bush /Cheney have prevented attacks? That the weakest logic I've ever heard in this whole issue. That's like saying that this "New Forrest Silencer" must work cuz I never EVER hear any trees falling down, even out here in the desert where I live!! So that silencer MUST be why I don't hear any trees falling! Yup! And there's no waves in the ocean, (so Bush Cheney MUST have had an effect on that today!).

      Brainwashing. Thanks Fox.

    • Posted By: NoMoreKoolAid @ 01/14/2009 9:46:41 PM

Yeah right, that first World Trade Center attack was just a joke by the massive Right Wing enemies of the Clinton Administration....right? If I were Newsweek, I'd want a new pundit!

So many on the bully pulpit have no clue what this country is about:

"They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security. "

yashbudini: The Mainstream media made Obama to be a Savior of the world! What Experience does he really have? He hasn't run a town, city state etc. and now he will be making the decisions for running our country. Pretty scary to me. I know the election is over now all we can do is support and Pray, Pray, Pray for the next adminstration. You know the say," Don't throw stones at glass houses" ?!

Now that the opposite party is entering power in the white house, the 'out of control' presidency doesn't seem all that bad. Newsweek is already making exceptions for the man they helped elect.

in a crisis, it is unwise to "take the failed leader to task". the imperative is to adapt, not conduct hearings ad infinitum. it is odd to observe that the more the system has been broken, the less likely that the specific reasons for the cascading decline will be subject to reasoned scrutiny. obama is a practical leader. as the article observes, "it is unlikely that he will overcorrect,,,", but before that, the author states "arguably. there has been an over-reaction to the alleged arrogance of bush and cheney". the word "alleged" requires the historians, and also, more 'oimmediately', the lawyers' attention.

however, the courts are not the place to correct a catastrophe. we must survive, in order to florish in the future.

bush and cheney are soon gone. we must deal with the situation as it occurs, thankfully in their soon absence...

We did not need tougher regulation to prevent additional terror attacks we just needed our government agencies to wake up and pay attention. Remember an low level FBI told higher ups that she suspected something was wrong about a group of Arabs students learning how to fly a plane but not land or take off. We are now the United States of lets be afraid, lets be very afraid. Ben Franklin is turning over in his grave. I voted for Bush and I say good riddance to both. They should both be prosecuted for crimes against the consitution which what they swore to uphold!! They should spend sometime in Guantanamo.
