Obama’s Cheney Dilemma

Whatever it takes to keep the people of this country safe, whether they apreciate it or not.

I voted for Mr. Obama, but I want to play devils advocate here. Hypothetically everything the democratic hardcore want, I.E. full constitultional rights to enemy combatants, sit down talks with current enemies, amongst other things I can not think of at the moment, is given to them. What happens if we are hit with another terrorist attack, and we follow all procedural rules outlined by some people here? What if we have enough to know who carried it out, but not enough to convict in a civilian court? Do we let them go, knowing full well we are letting a monster go? What if we somehow arrest a high ranking member of a terrorist faction, what procedures would you use to get information out of him in a timely manner? Don't give any vague or unclear answers, I want to know what happens when our civil liberties keep us from being safe? If somehow people allow politeness and reason after an attack. How do you stop people, who according to themselves, would rather cut your head off as well as your childrens than speak to you, from doing just that? Do you honestly think any amount of diplomacy will resolve literally millenias worth of animosity? You may not like them but you get honest responces from the conservatives without the cloudiness i've noticed alot of people shouting for civil liberties use when faced with a difficult question. So without defining what the definition of "is" is, define what happens.

I think the Dick Cheney's worst mistake was not protecting President Bush from the hyperbolic hysteronics of the fascist American left. That movement never met a lie that wasn't worth inflating, a half truth that wasn't worth twisting or a misrepresentation not worth exploitation. The handmaiden of the bulk of the disinformation fed to Americans over the last 7 years is the now throughly housebroken pet of American neo-liberal fascism, the New York Times.

The sad truth is by failing to have an effective counter to the corrupt media machine arrayed against them, Bush and Cheney laid the tracks for Obama's retreat from vigilant defense of our country.

We must now come to grips with two inescapable facts, (1) Obama will be sworn in on a platform of rolling back Bush/Cheney and (2) a lot of poeple are going to die... needlesly.

A few things about this page thoroughly disgust me.
The first is the obvious slant to this article, as can be found on almost any website, in any newspaper, on any street corner. No wonder Americans do not feel safe when Mother Culture is whispering a chant, preaching hatred of their country at every possible second.
The second is the complete lack of intelligence that permeates about 85% of the posts on here. Really, if you are attempting to be an informed American by taking advantage of these online news outlets, please learn proper English. Most of you look like fools, which reinforces my theory that none of you mindless Democrats know what the hell you are talking about.
The third is the bashing of the Bush-Cheny administration. I will never label myself a Bush supporter, but I'm damn proud to live in a country that can survive what we have. If anyone dares call me a conservative, I'll just have more evidence that you're all mindless idiots.

So please, educate yourself. It pains me terribly to see that, though I am probably decades younger than most of the people writing here, I feel like I am grading the persuasive paper of a third grade child. Stop your ignorance, quit whining. Learn something (but you'll probably need to find another news outlet to do that).

Maybe people should be thankful that they get to live in a country where they can scrutinze their leaders and condemn then for their actions. A leader is not afforded these privledges. In a perfect world torture would never come into question. It may not be the "right" thing to do, but if you had to make the choice between innocent people dying or extracting the information necessary to stop it from happening, what would you do? If your spouse and kids were in danger, what lengths would you go to? Would you let your family die because using extreme measures isn't "politically correct"? Our freedom of speech gives us the right to criticize, however, some issues are a little bigger than just right or wrong.

Barrack Hussein Obama is a marxist, nothing he does as president will be good or beneficial for our country and Newsweek is just a communist mouthpiece/propaganda machine for the powers that be.

Every American who approves harsh interrogations should be ashamed of himself. The United States of America has become the #1 country in the world by spreading its culture of freedom. Freedom is the core of the US constitution, and all the amendments revolve around it. How many European, Asian, African, Jew, Christian, Muslim, straight, gay, liberal, conservative... left their own country and came to the States to enjoy this freedom? After more than three hundred years of promoting liberties, democracy, social equality...After condemning suppression, dictatorship, discrimination...After years of dreams, hope, acts, conflicts, wars, reconciliation... After all this hard work, comes the Bush administration to blow up the temple of liberties, to drown us in the Dark Ages??? terror. This administration claims that it saved the United States from ???possible threats???. Wow! We should be impressed by these inspiring statements! The people of the Middle East, Central and South America, and Africa, where Bush is promoting his understanding of 'Democracy' are definitely more impressed! These people are looking forward to regimes that cannot provide them with security unless harsh interrogations and abusive jails as 'Guantánamo Bay prison camp' and 'Abu Ghraib'are held. I love Bush???s statements! They make me understand why some scientists were tortured, many philosophers were persecuted, and so many witches were burned at the stake! They make me realize that since Bush has many ignorant supporters nowadays, no wonder those absurd judgments were made a long long long time ago! Since the beginning of the life on Earth, evil is making life harder. Over the time, humanity had settled systems and laws to deal with evil. Every day, we are learning how to conquer evil with a more civilized way than the day before; and we should not let anyone drive us back to the dark ages again, especially someone claiming that he is spreading democracy in the wild part of this world!!

It amazes me how people are concerned about the rights of terrorists!! What if your loved one was on one of the planes that crashed into the Twin Towers?! Would you be that concerned how they are treated then? I say do what needs to be done to keep OUR COUNTRY and OUR PEOPLE safe!!! Bush gets a bad wrap for making the tough decisions! I applaud him for not listening to the rumbling and grumbling of the crowd. That is the making of a GREAT leader! OUR COUNTRY has been safe for over 7 years. Lets hope and pray that contiinues.
