January 20.2009 should be declared a national holiday since we get rid of Bush and Cheney, but to make that day a true holiday we need to get rid of all the people who served in Congress during the presidency and that includes both democrats and republicans---they are the true reasons we are where we are. Their lack of backbone, in the democrats case, and their lack of freewill, in the republicans case, allowed the Bush adminsitration to put us in the hole(s) we are in. Plenty of blame to go all around. History will not only judge the incompetence of Bush, history will also judge the Congress from 2000-2008 as being a party to the incompetence. No one will come out of this in a good light and no one should.

To think that history will somehow treat GWB kindly requires that you believe that he is either a genius whose wisdom is currently unappreciated by us ordinary folk, the 70-80% of us who disapprove of his performance, or that GWB was a victim of circumstances that no human being could have anticipated, or to which no human being could have performed well in response. It's very hard to imagine that GWB possesses genius of any kind, other than somehow persuading enough people to vote for him to get him elected (and, as a result, those people bear significant responsibility for his many failures). The victim of circumstance argument is hardly a position of strength. In the end, GWB was a self-fulfilling prophecy born of the notion espoused by so-called conservatives that government can do nothing right.

toofy, that was horrible, truly horrible what saddam did. i cannot condone it, but then again, W only went in there to finish the job that his eunich daddy couldn't finish. but more iraqi's are dying under America's imperialism than under Husseins.
are you speaking up like this for the poor souls who are dying in africa ? probably not, cuz there's no oil there. i just believe that we cannot and SHOULD not attempt to "better" any other country. We live in the MOST AMORAL society on the planet and we have the unmitigated GALL to try to be a bastion of righteousness, puh-leeze. I am sickened about hearing about American GI's, HALF my age dying, and for what ? To complete a mission that the FIRST EUNICH Bush could not finish. W, claims he did not know that Hurricane Katrina was going on ? He didnt see it on TV ?!?!? The entire country was watching in on CNN for 3 days at the time ?!?!?! What are you high trying to defend that ? If it was RICH WHITE FOLK in Kinnebunkport, I betcha he woulda seen it ! HE CHOSE NOT TO SE IT DUE TO THE COLOR OF THE SKIN OF NEW ORLEANS. He the absoulte worst President of the US. WIthout question. I thank GOD that i did not vote for him, for if i did, my conscience would lead me to take my own life. Which is what I wish for for all the members of the Republican Reich would do. IF they truly loved their country, they would and they would also take their entire family with them. Cut the cancers out of the body and the body will thrive.

Wow, any type of nonbiased reporting went out the window in this piece of propaganda! He basically said everything Bush did was wrong and the only question is was it because Bush was stupid or was their a more evil aspect to his presidency. This is truly sad and I think when history is written it will be men like Weisberg who are judged poorly by history.

To paint Bush as "innocent" is ludicrious; Simpleton perhaps but hardly innocent, Bush has more than once revealed his true intentions.
The attack on Ambassador Wilsons wife was nothing less than an attack on an individual who told the truth, and since it was not supportive of the propoganda that lead the US into a war that Alan Greenspan himself said in his book was for oil; Bush tried to destroy that couple.

But again after Katrina when Halliburton/KBR the Presidents construction company were sent to do the cleanup and rebuilding even to removing wage controls to allow the minimun wage people Halliburton hires and deny the locals of work that would have helped the recovery. This should speak loudly Bush has only profit on his mind for his own.

Bush continues to claim he has kept America safe, essentially taking credit for the heightened airport security world wide that is actually responsible. The fact is he was clearing brush on his ranch and the intel report that binlaudin was planning an attack was on his desk in Washington, the same intel report Condolezza Rice thought was "old news" so no action was taken. In that light it is fair to say Bush failed to keep Americans safe.

Innocent not on your life, and it still may come to pass Bush and Cheney will be tried for war crimes both for torture and the imprisonment of people without due process.
But I'm certain he came out to the good financially and he is correct in his statement "America will recover", but recovery will be in spite of him and what he has done; not because of anything he has done. Its what he has done America has to recover from.

One other thing; the roots of the current financial meltdown can be found nearly everywhere, but no less than in the political posturing of Franks & Dodd et. all regarding the health of Fanny and Freddie; in the "everything is fine, stop fear mongering" Democrat attacks to Bush's call for Social Security and entitlement reform, and, yes, in the Bush administration's capitulation to the liberal, populist notion that spending in Washington equates to greater success and more votes. As history has borne out once again, not so much. Going forward, ff there's one thing that I would hope that most American's can agree upon is that when a politician from either side of the aisle vows to fix something by either spending more or regulating something more, we ought to run for the hills -- after saying "no, " of course.

Bush and the Gestapo tactics of the Republican Reich has made this ONCE great country into what it is now. There was no provacation or good reason to enter Iraq, unless killing brown people is what you want, but again, this goes hand in hand with the wishes of the Republican Reich. The Republican Reich needs to be CRUSHED for the future of the country, EXACTLY like the Germans did with the Night of Broken Glass in old Europe. I am sure the entire planet would rejoice.

This entire article is a misstep. Another ignorant "review" of Bush, full of opinions based on the naive and wishful thinking that the public should, in fact, know all the nuances discussed and pondered by a Republican president; else ill intent is assumed and wiley Rove and Cheney are at the helm. One need only look at the mountains of articles, news clips, and political speeches made on the steps of the Senate and House from the early 90's onward to "understand" the argument for going into Iraq. To postulate otherwise, to assume some Dr. Strangelove scenario is nothing more than theatre in print. Oh, that's right...I'm reading Newsweek. My bad.

Actually President Bush's performance is very much in line with that of a recovering alcoholic/addict. His cognitive powers have been diminished by substance abuse over a prolonged period and have more or less gelled into a type of repetitive self-protective rigidity that, while not identifiable as paranoia, nevertheless reduces the ability to analyze and assimilate new and "changed or changing" information or ideas. The bane of any recovering alcoholic/addict is change ... they tend to fear it and avoid it and not trust it because it risks upsetting a set of circumstances that are already perceived to be 'working adequately enough.' That mindset works well for an average man in an average life but is brutally insufficient to use when governing a great nation with a host of opportunities, problems, and informations. A bright educated untainted and moral mind from a moral and non-brutal childhood upbringing is the minimum requirement for a modern president. There should be no noticeable cognitive impairment and the moral tone needs to be a workable mix of compassion and justice.

Yes, "toofyhead", we on the left HATE It when the US succeeds. I can understand how those on the right would much prefer to sacrifice lives and resources abroad in a pointless war that has not only accomplished very very little when compared to immense cost because hey - at least it diverts attention from the fact that nobody was minding the store here at home while the ultra-rich were looting the financial security of our entire nation.

Cheney is the Devil himself. Him, W & Rumsfield must be brought up on BOTH charges of treason and crimes against humanity.

to say that the financial crisis was Bush's legacy is like saying the Civil War was Lincoln's. Nice try, though.

I always see the same question in news articles, why did George W. Bush invade Iraq? He gave us the answer on national television himself "Saddam tried to hurt my daddy." Another one of his problems was the "Kingmaker" dick Cheney, the power behind the throne. One of the biggest manipulators in history!!!

"W" Bush decided to wage war with Iraq when his old man pulled out of the first war with Iraq period. He wanted to show his old man that he could do it. His ego was the biggest playing card in the deck.

I have heard that the President has a reputation of being stubborn.
