I'm sure many noticed, but all but Barack is the only Politician in the picture sporting his party's "colors." Clinton and Carter are wearing Red ties, and Bush & Bush are both wearing Blue.
Is there some hidden meaning here?

nzanemitch, Your right. The Shaw of Iran was a bad man, but compared to the Ayatollah Khomeini, and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, he was a saint. Carter's meddling foreign policy undercut the Shaw and paved the way for Khomeini to grasp power. The blood flowed and Human rights, by Carter's naive standard, quickly became nonexistent. But, at least Iran is no longer our friend and we have no leverage to use against them so at our conscience is clear.
I just read the the the Community Reinvestent Act. Gettyleigh you need to have someone translate it to you
Gettylleigh you are right it was the Taliban that helped break the USSR financeually. And I misspelled Afghanistan. The trickle down theory didn't work in the 80's and it didn't work the last 8 years. Anyone giving thought knows any Team, Structure, or Country is only as good as its weakest link. While you're checking facts check the history of the min. wage. You will find every time min. wage goes up unemployment goes down. When Reagan deregulated the banking industry it allowed greed to put us in the position we are now in. We have 2 economies in this country. The stock market and the world most Americans live in. Unless you earn over $200,000 a year and don't like feeding the poor, you are better off with a Dem. Pres. Most people vote Rep because they beleve they will, can, stop abortions. I bought my first new car in 1980. I borrowed $8,000 over the phone from C&S bank and received a 6.36 apr. And the Saving and Loan bail out in the 80's cost me pletnty. Give tax breaks to the middle to lower class and they have no choice but to put the money back into their economy. Give it ot the Rich and they may PLAY the stock market, take a trip to Europe, ect. I think George H. W. Bush was a good Pres.. "Read my lips" was his campaign promise. But once he got in office he realized we had to balance the budget. Witch helped Clinton succeed in doing it. And he and Chaney knew the repercussions of occupying Iraq. The artical nor I mentioned O.bama. The banks and Mortgage companies knowingly over sold loans, knowing people would loose their homes. The auto industry has been selling cars for years to people who owe over 100% on their tradeins. They drive off owing over 120%+ on their new auto. Deregulating Credit Card companies made them leagle loan sharks. Do some research on debit cards. One of banks latest scams. A friend who works for a mid sized bank in Ohio told me they earn 500,000,000 a quarter on insufficent fund fees from debit cards. And banks hold Deposits to make money on overnight and lie to their customers, telling them it hasn't cleared yet. They also manipulate their computors to insure the bank applies transactions to create more IFS fes. Check the I Q"s of the last last 5 presidents. The wisest of men allways have better foresight. If you favor Corporates vote Rep. If you favor human beings vote Dem! I've been watching the world markets for a long time. Honest people knew the market was overrated. Thats why Bush wanted to privatize Social security.
Wow these guys are a charitable lot. I would not give you 50 cents for all their opinions combined unless they fess up to screwing this country into the wall. And on this count W reigns supreme.
O.K., Merliman, get one thing straight. The Shah of Iran was an evil person that the U.S. had proped up to be the ruler of Iran after the U.S. and England conspired (sucessfully) to overthrow the leagally, democraticaly elected leader of Iran. That is why the Islamic revolution rolled around and overthrew the Shah. The Shah was a paranoid killer. This has nothing to do with Carter. Stop your revisionist history. Now!
rbaker8487 I think you need to get a few facts straight yourself, as it was the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977 that started the ball rolling on our current situation, and then Clinton allowed the Glass-Steagle Act to get partially repealed which allowed banks to buy into insurance and investment companies, allowing them to become conglomerates. Yea there are really three sides to every story: right, wrong, and real. Where do you get your talking points? Nobody's perfect, let's just wait and see if old Obama can emerge from the shadows of the pressures Reagan had to deal with when he was inaugurated. Everybody is lavishing him with all this praise yet he hasn't done anything, but get elected. I don???t generally side with parties, but if I wanted to argue for or against partisan presidents mentioned in this article, I???d be hedging my bets on the GOP. Keep in mind I???ve been voting for twenty plus years and have voted for both DEMS and CONS. you people who are die hard partisans are foolish or too lazy to study the issues. Below is a link where you can school yourself on the changes to the financial regulations over the last 30 years. Keep in mind when Reagan was first elected the unemployment rate was pretty substantial. The late seventies and early eighties were no picnic for the working man with a family.

BTW, it was the Taliban of Afghanistan that fought against the USSR. We did aid them with weapons, but we did not supply any manpower. Check out the book, ???Charlie Wilson???s War.???

I remember when Ronald Reagan referred to the USSR as the "evil empire" and when he stood before the Iron Curtain and challenged Soviets to "tear this wall down!" Ronald Reagan promoted the idea "peace through strength" and of developing an intercontinental ballistic missile shield to defend against the use of ICBM's and rid the world of the prevailing policy of "Mutually Assured Destruction" M.A.D. and share the technology with the Soviets. They refused and the media scoffed, but the Soviet Union came to understand that their totalitarian model could not hope to maintain parity with the freedom and ingenuity promoted by democracy. Hhistory has been kind to president Reagan. Pursuit of freedom under his steadfast leadership has made the world a much safer place, to our benefit. Jimmy Carter's legacy destabilized the Middle East by undermining the Shaw of Iran on the basis of human rights in favor of the Ayatollah Khomeini. Iran, over night, went from being one of only two friends in the entire Middle East (and Israel), to our rabid enemy. They became a hot bed of Jihad Islam Fundamentalism, leading to the sacking of the U.S Embassy in Tehran, taking of hostages, failed rescue attempt by a military (severely weakened under his administration), an oil embargo leading to gas shortages and rampant inflation, and ten years of warfare between Iran and Iraq costing millions of lives. Carters single claim to fame is the Camp David Accords in which the US purchased a friend in Egypt, and pays dearly for that friendship even today. Unfortunately, our Egyptian ally allows terrorists to live and train under their protection which allowed elements of these groups to play a major role in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Carter's continued meddling in world affairs is an embarrassment and disgrace to the office of the president. His greatest contribution to the world, would be to return quietly to his presidential library and write some memoirs accepting some modicum of responsibility for the failures of his administration, and stop trying to rewrite history to post him in a more favorable light.
Jimmy Carter is probably the most underrated president of recent times. Yes, some of his programs were a disaster.
But he did try to set this country on a path of conservation, and did so successfully until Reagan was elected and dismantled Carter's programs.
It was this conservation effort that drove down the the price of oil in the late Seventies and early Eighties. And it just happens that oil was the USSR's biggest export during the time. Carter also started the military build-up at the end of his term that Reagan continued and drastically increased. So Reagan gets the credit for the fall of the USSR, but Carter actually was the one that started it.
Do a "Google" search and read Carter's "malaise speech" he gave shortly before the election. Some say it cost him the election. It was probably the last time a president had the guts to tell the American people the truth rather than telling them what they want to hear.
As for Clinton balancing the budget and eight prosperous years. ...it was Clinton's policies in the late Nineties that started us down the path leading to our horrible financial mess, and the balanced budget had a lot more to do with the dot.com market bubble than anything Clinton did.
Jimmy Carter won a noble peace prize and stopped the gas shortage of the 70's. Ronald Reagan negotiated with terrorist by giving weapons to Iran for the release of the hostage. In return had to sell weapons to Iraq Reagan removed the consumers bill of rights that FDR put in place to avoid another depression that led to the crisis we are now in. Clinton balanced the budget and gave us 8 prosperous years of peace. Quit repeating Fox News lies and study hstory to get you facts right.

To have the hostages relased, Ronald Reagan negotiated with terrorist (Iran) by gving them weapons. To counter balance we had to sell wapon to Iraq. Al Quada helped Reagon break the Soviet Union with the war in Afganastan. Read history and Quit watching Fox News and quit embarrasing you self with repeated les. hilotc: did you mean 1/20/09 ? please attempt a modicum of common sense in your trumpeting.
And for the record: anyone with even the most slim grasp on reality knows to disregard anything that Jimmy Carter opines on. Carters presidency was a complete and utter fiasco. Carter has spent the remaining years of his miserable existence trying to justify his failed tenure in the top seat.
Perhaps getting outside and breathing some fresh air will give you a badly needed dose of perspective. The radiation from your computer setup is affecting your mind.
Jimmy Carter will go down as one of the worst presidents in history for failed domestic and foreign policy. He single handedly turned Iran over to radical Islamic fundamentalist leading to Middle East oil embargo and rampant inflation. He emboldened the Soviet Union and continues to be a meddler undermining respect for America around the world. Ronald Reagan as one of the best for courage ending the cold war and bringing the Soviet Union to their knees, and commitment to honor and principle. George W Bush will be treated much nicer by historians in light of his war on terror then by the short sighted masses and pundits who take opinion polls. Clinton will be an embarrassment for the rest of his life for his personal indiscretions, and failure to recognize the terrorist threat blossoming on his watch. Hopefully he will never again be back in power as a world shaper.
Jimmy Carter is spot on. Bill Clinton is a very close second.
01.20.08 will be the best day America has had in 8 years!
God Bless America.
