    The united Nation's resolution,
    passed by majority of votes,
through which Hama and Israel were asked to stop the war,
but Israel rebuffed it and there after Hamas.

    So diplomacy has failed there,
hear with full attention and think where is diplomacy is travling,
    when the secretary of the Nations says;
'' I ask that all those, who have influence with any parties to the conflict,
use all meansto end the voilence,
and to find a durable solution .

    Ban KI-MOOn,
indicating an admission that his own power as high profile with high rank ,
as secretary general of the United Nation to teh influence events is extremely limited.

    Densely populated Palestine enclave,
to which secretary general wanted to visit,
but declined by the authorities concerned,
    he told the reporters ,
    ''iI feel ver sad,
when i think of all those civillans killings,
that is why i wanted to visit Gaza at this time to share their pain.

Real picture of the Palestine is too painfull,
can not be described into words,
there is lot to do on humantarian ground,
suply of essential goods, food and medicines,
are also under control of Israeli forces,
Israel claime that,it has permitted almost daily trucks shipment of food and medicines,
but Human Right Watch, rebuffing its claim said,
''Israel daily three hours break in attack to facilitate the suply of humantarian aid to Gaza was woefully insuficient.

    Endgame, looks changing its cours,
news from different quarters are being received,
rocket firing from lebnan has begun, and Israel swiftly responded,
a new front is expected to open, it mean endgame is going to convert into enedless game.

Until Hamas and other extreme groups see that Isreal has the right to exist as a people and a nation, the fighting in the middle east will never be over. Those people in the US that criticize Isreal for their efforts to protect themselves really need to see this for what it truly is dicriminatory behavoir based on religion and race by extreme elements in the arab and muslim world. We ourselves fought a similar battle over slavery and though the shooting has long since ceased, we still fight the battle amongst ourselves every day. Isreal has a right to exist, and a right to peace and security. Until Hamas, Syria, Iran and others in the region face this reality, the prospect of peace is nil.

Mr Haass' interesting analysis which finds an analogy to the Irish Catholic/Protestant conflict breaksdown when one considers that there is nothing in wither religiion that calls for the annihilation of non-believers, as Islam does. Until a new teacher appears to reinterpret Moslem beliefs so it really does become a religion of peace, as we are often assured it is by some of its adherents, Israelis and the rest of the world will prepare for the worst when dealing with any 'true believer' in Islam.

If the Muslim Arabs start adjusting their mentality and education of the children now, perhaps in 50 years they can jopin the cxivilized naitons of the world and work out solutions to their grievances. But such as course of action will not happen until there is a 'Reformation' in Islam. They need a new Imam who actually believes that Islam is a religion of peace, as we are so often assured by Muslims. Until that change takes place, Israel will continue ot create 'facts' on the ground and defend herself against those whose real religion is one of 'death' for all but the 'true believers' in their particular brand of radical Islam. Mr Haass is dreaming when he suggests a solution can be found that parallels the Irish Catholic/Protestant conflict. Where in those religioins does it call for the annihilation of everyone different from you?

Mr. Haass is crazy, rearm hamas and recognize it as a political party. Do not get from Hamas its recognition of Israel as a right to exist as a state. Mr. Haass has never heard of the statement to the victors belong the spoils. Pay bribes to Palestinians for behaving themselves!! I had to look twic if Mr. Haaas was not a code name for Mr. Hamas. Israel has to take over the souther part of Gaza Strip to prevent the rearming. Israel has to open on the northern strip of Gaza factories and a few trade zone to allow legal, law abiding Palesinians to work in factories established by Israel. Hamas as a political power has to be destroyed. Money that flows into the future Palestinian State has to have a lot of oversight so that it is used for the benefit of the Palesinians, i.e. birth control and the betterment of their lives, and not stolen as Arafat and his gang did. BTW where is Mrs. Arafat still in her Paris Penthouse enjoying the TWO BILLION dollars her husband stole?

Good article, NOW lets see if we can get Hamas....to understand it!

  • Posted By: runswithscissors @ 01/14/2009 5:58:54 AM

I am surprised how good Mr. Haass' article is (from my perspective, of course).

    It almost borders on rotten.

He talks about the 1967 borders but leaving large settlement blocs...
the "Palestinians would enjoy some **foothold** in Greater Jerusalem"
"Palestinian refugees would receive... the right to settle...not in Israel"

    Mr Haass' formula goes nowhere.

His article did touch on one of the real reasons for Israel's slaughter
of innocent civilians. Israel was trying to "restore some of their
reputation" lost after the "unsuccessful campaign against Hizbullah
in 2006", that is, to Terrorize the region with fear of Israel.

Another significant reason that Israel is slaughtering civilians in Gaza
is that it is fending off Peace. Representatives from several Arab nations
flew to Jerusalem in the summer of 2007 in what should have been an
historically received offer of peace by Israel. Israel's response was a long delaying
tactic, saying the Arab offer should be tabled for a "Peace" conference
in Annapolis in the fall of 2007. (The outcome of that conference, as
we know, was a bribe of promised arms sales to Saudi Arabia to get them to
attend the conference they knew was a waste; plus, an actual sale
of arms to Israel. Not a peace conference, but an arms sale -- how about
that! Oh, but Olmert and Abbas did make headway on an
"outline of a framework for a plan". Not a plan, not even a framework for
a plan, but an outline of a framework for a plan (ok, there was no outline
either, they just began one). I actually read this in a straight-faced article
    in a major media outlet!
    outlet)

Arab states made a historic offer, Hamas has accepted a two-state solution,
Israel has felt backed into a corner where it might be forced to accept Peace.
So, before the new President comes to power, Israel does what it can to
defend itself from Peace. It spoils the atmosphere with the slaughter of
innocent civilians. Israel does not trust Peace it trusts War.

Wow...On one had Mr. Haass is calling for the establishment of a viable Palestinan state based on 1967 border. Yet, he is not calling Israel to removes the settlements from West Bank (which is one of the condition for two state solution). Instead he suggests that "territorial compensation" be given to account for Israel's "large settlements blocs". Similarly he is not accepting the right of return of Palestinian to their land ( in Israel). For this, he suggests those be given "financial compensation". Has he asked the Palestinians what they want, "financial compensation" or their land back? May be they don't want compensation, they need to go to their land (in Israel).
If things were that simple, and if it was an issue of giving financial compensation it would have already been solved. We need fresh ideas for solving Middle East conflict. Mr Haass suggestion that by using "moderate Palestinian" we can get the deal done probably wouldn't work this time.

"Palestinians will receive compensation" from whom? Or is this another bail out with short lived results. Another big payout of American tax dollars without an end in sight?

Wow there is really a neat concept here. Iran and Syria speak, call all the shot and Hamas and the civilians take all the bullets. If Iran and Syria are not involved in the peace talks, there will not be any peace. Can someone tall me what the other Arab countries did for Gaza other than provide rockets, weapons and training? Gaza needs a whole lot of things to make a decent life. But only Israel and the West are providing. Why would any soverign country open borders unless they are given the right to exist in peace, without suicide bombers and rockets. Gaza was pent up due to their own actions. Peace concessions need to come from the people of Gaza and Hamas thru their head leader in Syria.

To be honest I can't understand why so many Americans care about the Palestiinians when they cheered in the streets as our twintowers were taken down with 3000 murdered victims. Think about that these people who we are supposed to feel sorry for because of Israeli aggression Cheered with Glee the destruction that took place that fateful day. If you think for one minute I give a rats ass about any of these people your outta your mind. What comes around goes around is what i say. people have short memories. i don't and will never forget the scene of the party in them streets at our lowest moment. Think about that ?

"What comes around goes around is what i say. people have short memories."

Maybe you want to look in the mirror?

What have the United States of Israel offered the oppressed Palestinians but F-16's and bombs with "Made in America" stenciled on them?

While the concept or idea of peace between Israel and the Palestinians (or the entire Muslim world for that matter) is a good one, everybody deserves to live in peace and believe and worship as they wish. But this will not happen until the Muslim world learns to accept and respect Judaism (or Christianity, Zoroasterianism, atheists, polytheists, etc. for that matter), and by extension accepts Israel's right to exist! It won't happen until Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt (who Israel has a peace treaty with!) Saudi Arabia etc. stop inciting their people to hatred of Israel and Jews. Until imams, preachers, clerics stop spreading false blood libels and lies to the masses. In essence, it won't happen unless there is some sort of Islamic reformation that somehow finds a way to learn to live peaceably with those who don't believe as they do. Until this happens, Israel (and the West) for that matter have no partner for peace.

What exacftly is the "rule of proportionality", Newsweek, and what are some historical examples of it ever being followed by anyone. And, by the way, the IRA's openly stated goal was not the complete annihilation of England, as Hams's is toward Israel, so the comparison is absurd. Grow up.

1st of all, mr r.n.haass, I complement you on the sensible article published..while many americans cannot understand the actions and dislike of us by middle eastern countries. and others around the world are not atuned to the reasoning of why they hate us?? there are reasons why the scenario was created in the first place..dislike just does not happen without reason..now with all this disparity and turmoil world wide. one should think about progress, not ending it......

A reminder to all - GAZA was evacuated by Israelis 2 years ago in exchange for PEACE - not rocket barrages, weapon smuggling and terrorist activities ... While it has been a long time belief that land in exchange for peace was just a ruse to capture as much land they lost, Gaza is another demostration that there negotiations with a terror state is in vain ... Russia has not sat with Chechen fighters, nor did the US army with Al-Quaida - yet the world thinks that discussions with Hamas will result is some true and everlasting - IS ON EVERYONE ON DRUGS!!!

Hamas is doing exactly what is expecting from someone that knows that Israel will never give back another inch of Palestinian land even if the Palestinians agrees on Israel right to exist, that's stupid as it is that a state like Israel after over 60 years is waiting for the Palestinians to give them the right to exist. And the right to defend itself, everyone has the right to defend itself. Hamas knows diplomaticaly they going nowhere. Did anyone lately look at the map, between Gaza and the West that vast land Israel has small towns, with shopping malls, high-rises, beautiful towns. Does anyone thinks that Israel going to give all that to the Palestinians, peace or no peace. And that's why Hamas is acting that way. Does anyone blames him?. I don't. So what Hamas has left, except some tin-can rockets mostly home made type, kids throwing stones back at the Army. Whatever they have left they going to use against that greedy, selfish, evil and last but not least a stupid government.

While Mr. Haass is basically correct in his observations/recommendations, his thesis does contain a flaw. Israel at one time was conquered muslim land. Musilims believe that once muslim land -- always muslim land. Accordingly, Israel will always be under attack. Thus, while a two state solution may be possible over the short term..... it is doomed longer term.

While Mr. Haass is basically correct in his observations/suggestions there is one key flaw. Israel at one time was muslim land. As such it is the muslim belief that once conquered never relinquished. Accordingly, Israel will always be under attack. While a two state solution may be possible over the short term it will fail long term.

I believe peace will happen when the women of Israel and Gaza decide they have had enough of this mess and take the lead in resolving this disaster.
