and I hope that come combination of forces (US, Israel, UK, India), succeed in destroying Pakistan's nuclear weapons.

Pakistan's nukes are the shield from behind which it is able to foster islamic terrorism against everyone.

But thats OK, because its paying a heavy price for that. Pakistan's focus on nukes and islamist terrorists as part of its regional religious and territorial obsessions has left Pakistan a dysfunctional state on the brink of disaster. Pakistan has nukes, a big army, legions of islamist terrorists, but it does not have any of the institutions that it needs to ensure prosperity and stability in the near and far term future. Even compared to India, its education is third rate, it has nothing to export to the world in any large quantity except grain and textiles, It has no world class companies, little indigenous services or manufacturing capability that can earn foreign exchange, its government is bordering on non-existent, it keeps alternating between corrupt civilian rule and military dictatorships, and all this while, both its civilian and military governments are reluctant to act against the rapidly spreading islamist groups and will soon be unable to control them at all. In fact, government authority in Pakistan (both civil and military) may already be unable to act against the likes of LeT, even if they wanted to.

This state of utter dysfunction is what pakistan has earned with its stoken nuclear technology and its legions of islamist fanatics and terrorists.

and it has no results to show for this sacrifice. Kashmir remains ever more firmly in Indian hands.

pakistan is in deep deep trouble. As it falls further and further behind India, it will rely more and more on nukes and terrorists to try for parity, until it will dissolve into afghanistan like conditions. and they will have no one to blame for it but themselves.

Why India can't start it first. Israel, UK, and USA will not fight Pakistan on behalf of India because they know the outcome very well. Since the Mumbai incident India is crying like a baby and proved nothing to the World. Read Mr. Miliband's recent statement carefully. India itself is a number terrorist country in the World. Why can't you see the killings and atrocities created by the large Indian army in the Kashmir. How about the "Hindu Terrorism"? Hindu terrorist are terrorising Muslims, Christians and low cast Hindu on daily bases. Did you forget the Gujrat incident? I cannot undestand your bad memory. Did you forget the train burning incident when Hindu terrorist burned 70 Pakistani alive in India when they on their way back home to Pakistan. How about the arrest of Indian's army terrorist officer who was behind this crime arrested by late Mr. Hament Karkare. Later Mr. Karkare was killed by Hindu terrorist. You own interior minister confirmed it. And by the way what four Indian Consulate Offices are doing in Afghanistan? Thay are, indded, engaged in terrorost activities against Pakistan. The whole World knows it very well. How many poor Afghans are travelling to India every day? If you want to see the real "Ugly Face" of India, then you need to read the articles of your own beloved Indian writer "Arundhaty Roy." If you want more then read the book of late President Nixon as well. He described the real ugly face of Idia in a very claer way in his book.

As long as Pakistan army and ISI supports terrorism and Alquida, there is no end for this. US and Israel are targetting Gaza instead of Pakistan. US should fully focus on Pakistan which is the epicenter of terrorism.

    To Kamran moeen,

You don't recognize that using terrorism as a state policy is what is causing all the troubles for Pakistan. If US "ditched" Pakistan after USSR collapse, what did Pakistan do? Start making terrorists. And they didn't stop until money started flowing again.

The root cause of "war against terror" is Pakistan using terrorism as a state policy. Afghanistan has nothing to do with Kashmir except in your mind (and your country). You need Afghanistan to breed terrorists and to arm twist US into giving you more money.

The only reason India is abusing Human Rights is because you use terrorism as a state policy. Israel is a good analogy but you used it in the wrong sense. The only reason Israel bombs Hospitals is because Hamas hides bombs there. The only reason India abuses Human Rights is because Pakistan sends terrorists into Kashmir.

India would recognize the UN mandate and call plebiscite in Kashmir if Pakistan recognizes the same UN mandate and vacates the occupied portions of Kashmir.

Indian media is powerful because it tells the truth. Not some made-up reality told by your media.

If there were no Pakistan, there would be no terrorists and the region would be an economic super power. It is time you woke up and realized that this century is about economic super powers not military super powers (worse terrorist super powers as your country seems to think). That would be better for both your country and mine.

I understand the pain with which you are writing, I know truth hurts. By the way, thank you for confessing that India is an undisputed champion of Human rights abuse. Can I just request? if you can stop blaming Pakistan for few moments only ( not asking too much I guess) and find out who killed Anti terror police chief. Mr Kurkuray. Please don???t quote your media reports in you r reply and you know why???. Will discuss further, once you have the answer. Good luck

      To yellowguy:
If you want to find out what is the real face of India, you should raed the book of "President Nixon" and columns of "Arundhati Roy." Pakistan will always remain on the face of earth, but India will not. You should look into your own backyard what "Hindu Terrorist " organization are doing with their own citizen. Don't blame Pakistan for evertthing. You can't clap with one hand.

there is a god almighty who does the right thing and punishes and defeats the evil
the taleban are not liars -they are neither murderers -they freed all the western hostages post 9-11
they were ready to surrender osama their american saudi guest trained by cia to saudi courts but usa refused in favour of a war

mullen is an avid israel lover and usa india and israel are having a threesome on crystal met ,right now
the results are manifest - moral mental and physical degradation
as the stage is being played to prove that pakistan is an unstable nuclear power and its arsenal has to be forcibly stripped

mullen has been sent to achieve that motive
the target is not taleban- aquasi excuse and shameless killing of innocent civilians but the paki nukes which seem to be a pain in the rear without any reason for the american led zionist threesome
there is a huge problem though -a thorn in the side
and i hope obama will reverse this evil threesome or there will be a global disaster
therec are 160 million pakis and they have chinese support as well iran -afghans and saudis at their back

it might be better for america not to terrorise and thus embarrass and damage itself further in an already vicious cycle

i am really bemused by the ramblings of david sanger who is a clueless white house lackey of bush in new york times which has become a real laughing stock with its mediocre investigative journalism mostly as accurate as the WMDS of saddam

it might not be good but newsweek is the only publication left which i still peruse as it at least will let others express themselves rather then the fascism of the rest of american media which smacks of the degradation of francos spain

While interesting, this article is limited in scope. One of the core issues not addressed is how the Taliban gained control of the rural 70 percent of Afghanistan. The answer to that is that the coalition forces have not sat on their rear ends in urban centers and not branched out into these areas. The Soviets made the same mistake and the Mujahadeen used the same tactics to defeat them and drive them out. I think getting the Patreus brand of counter-insurgency into Afghanistan will take the fight to these rural areas and root out these insidious Taliban insurgents. Of course that will mean more troops on the ground. This article does address some ofthe issues on the supply side of the Taliban which of course is in the tribal areas of Pakistan. Once those troops are added and th einsurgency is rooted out, they cannot go home until the source of the insurgency is eliminated and that is in Pakistan. I did not realize that Pressler had tied our military's hands and this is part of the reason that the U.S. operates remotely with these drones, a tactic richly and understandably despised by Pakistanis. With better cooperation these drones could concievably be run by Pakistanis under U.S. supervision from inside of Pakistan. The conflict has stagnated since its inception and the Taliban are cunning enough to have taken advantage of weakeness that were open to them. Hopefully with a drawdown in Iraq finally underway, the insurgency will be toppled with a fresh supply of troops using couner-insurgency tactics and then hopefully the Pakistanis awill have gotten a better grip on the tribal areas.

The US only creates lethal hatred and bravery in foreign lands by its so-called "War on

Terror" which is actually a "War to Incite Terror". There ain't no cowards more cowardly than

the folks in the trailer trash at Nellis AFB operating those Predators and other drones. The

people the US kills in Pakistan are no threat to the US. The only reason they are a threat to

US forces in Afghanistan is that US forces are busy killing for money there, and frankly,

deserve killing far more than their opponents do. I note the Taliban offered to hand Osama

bin Laden to an Islamic court, if the US would follow the standard policy of showing evidence

of his guilt. Bush refused to do so. Interpret it as treason, directly or indirectly as one

    chooses.

Mullen indicates he is more loyal to Israel and its military than the people of the US.

Israel, and its military supporter the US, deliberately incite terrorism so they can have a

job pretending to fight it, but actually incite. I grant that they do kill terrorists, but

mostly they kill patriots and innocents, creating far more terrorists than they eliminate.

All the admirals and generals, except for a few zealots, at least suspect this, and many know

this. All those who only suspect this do so out of negligence by failing to learn the

underlying military history. At their level, it is part of the minimum qualifications to do

    the job correctly.

    yellow or brown
    whatever guy
americans have killed more innocent people the anyone in history
    for economic and political clout
    from vietnam to korea
    chile to colombia
    iraq to korea

americans are the only terrorists there are in the world presently -if they sink in atlantic the world will be a clean nice place again

Fellow terrorists include UK, Israel. Worst? Think USSR, Nazis, China (internally)as top competitors; I suspect the US has "only" killed 30M people intentionally.

Americans are being peddled silly myths by the so called experts that the tribal areas bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan are the source of threat for USA. This is a grave under estimation of the Pakistan problem.

What about the rest of "Pakistan"? Daniel Pearl was beheaded not in the tribal areas, but in Karachi.

Karachi has been the coordinating city, nerve center for all Pakistani terrorist operations. The terrorist "charity" recently banned by the UN is based out of Punjab province, not in tribal areas. Major terrorist training camps are run throughout Punjab province and in Occupied Kashmir.

Pakis tell the drone attacks by US army are very unpopular in "Pakistan". But let's look at what type of activities are very popular in "Pakistan".

India has just released phone conversations of pakistani terrorists in Mumbai talking to the Pak army handlers in Karachi directing them who to kill, when to kill, etc.

" I have a Singaporean, Chinese and Belgian". Pak army handler at the other end in Karachi says kill them but spare the two muslims.

Think about this. This type of activity is very popular in "Pakistan" unlike the drone attacks. Why should the civilized world put up with this type of nonsense?

Soon afer the Mumbai terrorist attacks, jihadi terrorist outfits met with the Pak army at the GHQ at publicly declared their support for Pak army.

US should stop giving military aid to "Pakistan". Thinking Pak army will fight Taliban is fantasy. It ain't going to happen. It is for the American ppl to decide how much money and lives they want to spend on this drama.

US need to do more on Pakistan. It is not enough just to attack in north of Pakistan. They need to attack on all Pakistani terror camps. It is not enough to put sanctions on AQ Khan. They need to eliminate Pak's nuclear capabilities and they should try AQ Khan in US court.

It looks like the military in Pakistan would be treated kindly by the Americans, as they have always supported and enabled the military to take over and occupy the political power in Pakistan. We could see Musharraf back in as President or Prime Minister as soon as his 2 year restriction since retirement expires in the end of 2009. President-elect Obama had promoted the idea of helping the people and democracy instead of helping prop up a military regime in Pakistan but old habits die hard. The army officers training in US would become future dictators of Pakistan continuing the traditions of the American Raj while the people of that country suffer from poverty, hunger and acute energy shortages.

    1. The latest spin from Pak army/ ISI is that Lashkar-e-Taiba is a pan-Islamist terrorist outfit. People in the know are not buying this nonsense. LET is the jihadi terrorist wing of Pakistan army. During Kargil war in 1999, LET terrorists maintained combat positions until Pakistan army can replace them with regular troops.

    2. Pakistan army has ensured the failure of Pakistan as a state. India's progress has been a tremendous source of envy for Pak army/ISI establishment. This is the reason behind attacks on Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, attacking India's financial capital and so on.

    3. Seeking out and killing American, British and other westerners in Mumbai, executing Jewish people in Mumbai are all part of this DRAMA to create an illusion this is Pan-Islamist Al-Qaeda operation and NOT an operation by Pakistan army/ ISI.

    4. The thinking behind #3 would have been diabolically clever if only it had succeeded. Mumbai would be ground work for later "Al-Qeda attacks" on India to continue.

    5. All the terrorists came from Punjab province of Pakistan, which reveals the operational realities of Pak army/ISI. They did not come from Sindhi, Mohajir or Balochi populations. They did not come from Palestine, Syria or Saudi Arabia.

6.Ajaml Amir Kasab turned out to be the weak link defeating the whole operation. He should not have been caught alive, he should not be talking. He is doing both. Leaving material evidence, phone trail etc were done deliberately to mock and provoke India. Leaving Ajmal Kasab alive was not part of the plan. Desperate ideas were discussed in the last minutes of Mumbai operation to rescue him.

  • Posted By: Victor1971 @ 01/13/2009 2:32:55 PM

    7. Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist outfit is 100 percent under the control of Pakistan army.

    8. India WILL and SHOULD act what is in its best interests and will choose to act in a manner, method and place as it chooses to be in its best interests. Pakistan has been put on trial for its terrorist activities, and this time India has enormous international diplomatic backing.

9.Al-Qaeda leader Pervez Musharaff is going to USA under the pretext of private visit, to do some lobbying. Things are going to get a lot worse for the Pakistan Army on the PR front.

10.India and international community were until recently willing to provide some cover for the Pakistan army which planned and executed the Mumbai massacre. The way out would have been to just expose Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists, and pretend as if the Pakistan army and ISI had nothing to do with the massacre. This is not easy anyways because of #1 and #4 above. This window for this possibility has evaporated.

    11. Besides #2, the idea behind Mumbai terrorism was to provoke India to mobilize troops , thus enabling Pakistan army to give an excuse (1) not to fight Taliban on the Afghan border and more importantly (2) to boost bargaining power with USA . India and USA have worked together and have denied this opportunity to Gen Kayani.

    12. When the dust settles, after Pakistan army is completely exposed people throughout the world will realize Al-Qaeda and Pakistan army are one and the same.

  • Posted By: Trooper101st @ 01/13/2009 9:34:39 AM

I wonder if Mullen asked Kayani why the PAKI AF has not dropped 1 bomb on the camps that are run in the open, with IMPUNITY? I also wonder if Mullen pointed out the participation of PAKI army and FC who fire on US troops that are engaging T-ban/AQ? The P-stani's are a state sponsor of terror, there is a mountain of evidence that the ISI is really a terror org. Why don't they hand over Hamid Gul & Co? They have ceded thier FATA to terrorists, and thier claim of soveriegnty is a JOKE. The proof is DEEDS, not WORDS. Yeah, they lost some troops, but this is the monster they created. The quickest and most decisive way the US can hit the islamists where it hurts, is to hit them where THEY live. A round of massive airstrikes, followed up with airborne and air-assault troops. If the PAKI won't do it, WE will. Stay out the way or die. P-stan is playing BOTH sides, and the "safe havens" remind one of the Vietnam War, where border countries were used as supply bases, training camps, and areas where they can rest and re-arm. Do not repeat this mistake. We must bring this to some kind of end.

Let's start it, we will finish. You were not able to handle ten people who kidnapped whole India for three days, how you will cope with poweful nation of Pakistan. Second thing why don't you ask your army chief to drop one bomb on "Hindu terrorist extremist" who are continuously engaged in terrorising Christians, Muslims, Low Cast Hindus in India. Before you open your mouth, please twice before you say unacceptable words.

I may sound like a "KAFIR" ( Infidel) but I believe all Muslims in thw world should do the following:
    1. Get rid of all the "Mullahs"
    2. Koran allows equal rights for men and women. Democratize our Islam religion. Be flexible. Come out of stone age.
    3. Nothing wrong in joining developed nations and seek help and aid.
    4. Separate religion and politics. Religion is a private individual thing to practice.
    5. Work hard, educate yourself to compete with the world.
    6. If we achieve all this , you willl be so busy you will have no time to think religion.
I am a proud American , practcing my religion, working so hard , I have no time to breathe and go on vacation.

First of all, don't insult everyone on the boards by apologizing when you don't mean it. This kind of hate and war-mongering is why we have such a poor reputation abroad. The Middle East has a rich historical and cultural tradition that many o us know too little about. Try respect and understanding instead of stupidity and bigotry.

afghans and pakis are a different race altogether
afghans have always been fierce fighters
they defeated both british empire and red russians -
pakis were under the brits for 200 years fighting for them in ww2 and ww1
so to understand the first thing if u want to in the firsst place
do not put them in same bracket
    indo-pak is the same
    they are the same race
afghans survive every opponent and will teach usa a lesson that will make them forget korea
and i am not an afghan as well
    just a us well wisher
