I never saw Father Neuhaus in person, but I read every word he wrote in First Things for the last 10 years. His writing and thinking were wonderful and powerful to behold. I will miss him greatly.

Rev Wright spoke up strongly and positively, about the massacre of un armed civillians, and the babies. He was a man who knew what Israel was doing, and what American crimes against humanity, he was accused of Racism, but Israel who is Racist, no one bat's an eye.

I'm sorry that the two previous posts by thegarder and gwinston have no respect for Mr Weigel and Father Neuhaus. Their comments do not reflect a healthy and respectful attitude toward those who respect theirs.

It is called: Keeping up appearances. The show must go on. Keep the simpletons busy with submission fear and horror stories, make them belief that suffering is the fee to be paid for a seat in the afterlife. Goodness. Repulsive stuff which is called holy. Good grief.

I am not sure when in our history public figures were made to be canonized at their death. His intolerance and hatred of those different from his upbringing bears witness to a life that was not Christ-like, but egocentric. Here are his words from his website:

"For those who claim to see no connection between homosexual agitations and the deconstruction of the institution of marriage, I warmly recommend David Blankenhorn???s The Future of Marriage and Linda Waite and Maggie Gallagher???s The Case for Marriage. In the months ahead, thanks in large part to the judicial hubris exhibited by the likes of the Supreme Court of California, more Americans will be forced to choose between ignorance or disingenuousness, on the one hand, or clarity and courage, on the other."

As a gay man I disagree with his uninformed OPINION. I am not ignorant or disingenuous. Apparently, his "patience" was to bring people to his way of thinking. If that could not be achieved, then he resorted to name calling, labelling, and saying downright hateful things. I am glad the author enjoyed his company.
