Sliming Pelosi

Curious that all these folks concerned about their capital gains taxes don't seem to know their history. The highest capitial gains tax rate as well as the highest income tax rate on the wealthies 5% of Americans was under that old Communist Dwight Eisenhower. I think we all remember what an economic nightmare the 50s were. Look on the brightside, wingnuts! Under Bush you didn't have to pay any capital gains tax, because he and the Republican House and Senate cratered the economy. I'm so glad I put my 401k in bonds the day the Supreme Court installed that loser.

Funny how when politicians first go to Washington with not much personal wealth (except Pelosi), and they all leave wealthy. And then they vote themselves in a pay raise during this tough economic time. During the past five months we have lost total confidence in our government and they are really trying to make us lose confidence in ourselves. The first stimulus plan did not work, and now they are going to push through another one. Gee, shouldn't the markets be rebounding on such great news??!! Just sayin'.......

Most of the posters here are not interested in the truth. They are interested in advancing their agendas but they will never convince anyone of anything by being abusive and using inflamatory language.
The real problem with the MSM is corporate ownership and lack of competition. In some markets Rush Limbaugh is on 4 or 5 times a day,(nothing against Rush) sometimes even against himself. There need to be rules regarding how many outlets acompany can own. Clear Channel, for instance owns 1200 radio stations. DO you think they have a problem getting their corporate message out? Their interests are not your interests. We need more locally owned media outlets. When is the last time an anti-trust suit was prosecuted?

By the way, the people in congress are civil servants who were elected by their districts. The people who elected them are not stupid. I don't like them all (congress) and I think some of them are dangerous but anyone who thinks there is a great conspiricy to bring Socialism to the U.S. (on the part of the Dems) or establish a facsist corporatocracy (on the part of the Repubs) is a fool.

Why is this magazine defending Pelosi? I do not see it defending or "setting" the record straight about othe politicians. Could this be more liberal bias, where instead of reporting news it pushes a liberal agenda?

Actually, the truth is bad enough. Despite being a registered Democrat, I'm still very unhappy with her leadership. Her grandstanding prior to the first bailout vote was completely inappropriate and caused irreparable harm to the country. A complete loss of confidence followed. It was more important for her to slam the Republicans than pass the legislation. That's what I hate about partisan politics. They play power games and the rest of us are collateral damage.

Please read the article. Newsweek says there is no evidence that Pelosi said the words attributed to her about the tax on stock profits. Evidence. Get it. Newsweek is saying there is no proof of the claims. As for the Cook story, again there is no proof, only a decades old story of the exact same plot. Please, righties, read and comprehend. To be kindergarten plain, Newsweek is saying these are literal claims that do not have any backing in reality. They are most likely made up.

Rather disingenous to suggest that just because the "Cook" story was originally posted in an old joke book does nott make it more or less likely that Pelosi failed to catch on. Earlier postings quite correctly point out that Pelosi not proposing anything close to 100% tax on stock profits is not saying she hasn't proposed a tax. In fact, Newsweek fails to mention the exact percentage she is proposing.

The bias of the media has been eye opening. This Newsweek article is just one more example.

I consider myself a conservative Republican, member of the Boomer Generation and several years from retirement. That said I believe that there needs to be an acceptable LIMIT to the tax rate on savings/investment profits. Afetr all the more I have the less the government needs to provide me.

I see no where in the artical Newsweek is debunking a reference to a 100% tax on stock profits. It simply states that Pelosi plans to tax these. Newsweek actually states..."Pelosi has never proposed anything close to a 100% tax on stock profits.." Seems as if Newsweek is adding a measure of sensationalism to the articla it is debunking.

What exactly IS the level of tax she wants? 25%, 35%, 50%, 65% are ALL no where near 100%. Why don't you report the truth, with FACTS so that we may all decide, in our own minds, if it is acceptable or not. Otherwise it sort of makes no difference if the artical is genuine or urban legend...it could still be true. You know...not all fiction is a lie!!

Newsweek, please go recheck your facts about the time frame of stock ownership where Del Monte which is Headquartered in Pelosi???s district and when Del Monte sold StarKist Tuna to a South Korea company and then go look at the congressional record on the minimum wage laws. Your statement is true as of today Pelosi???s husband technically does not own stock in StarKist because Del Monte sold that Wholly Owned Subsidiary to the Sough Korea Company.
