whydidoit, and I'm the third-grader. Bottom line, I'm not playing a tough guy approach. I was merely trying to say in the first comment I made that whether you fit in with the military lifestyle or not, you are an important asset. You signed up, great, it didn't work for you, so be it. Do your time and do it well because whether you think you're important or not, to someone you are. Do the honorable thing and serve proudly. I respect your opinion but I am sick and tired of the liberal media always putting sob stories like yours to the forefront of the daily paper. How many times do you hear about the Soldiers re-enlisting knowing fullwell what the Army is like for them? I'm tired of people giving the military a bad rap. I'll tell you what, whether you valued your service or not, there are a lot of people who respect that, including me. The part I have no respect and tolerance for is the few that feel like everything is against them so they're going to tell the world how much their life sucks and blame the military for it.

Awades, you're missing the point. You're trying to make this about you or me. I've known people like you. You like to argue with people just so you can exploit your own knowledge or experiences. Look, drop the third-grade "get over yourself" attitude and actually comprehend what it is I am saying. The fact I wrote "I'm just trying to provide an inside view of what it's like to be in the military" in my last entry, contextually implies that I am addressing those who may have a false image of how the military operates from the inside. You, on the other hand, haven't had one intelligent word to say since this began. Please, do everyone a favor and either read a book once in a while or go kill yourself. Seriously.

Awades, you're missing the point. You're trying to make this about you or about me. I know people like you. You find reasons to argue against someone else's point of view so you can exploit your own knowledge or experiences. Drop the third-grade "get over yourself" attitude and actually comprehend what I'm writing. You sound ridiculous trying to play the tough guy. If you want to act tough, go back to your video games. Otherwise, take time and understand what it is I'm writing. The fact I wrote, "I'm just trying to provide an inside view of what it's like to be in the military," in my previous entry, contextually explains that this is directed toward those who may have a false image, or no idea, of how the military operates on the inside. You haven't had one intelligent thing to say since this began, so do everyone here a favor and go kill yourself. Seriously.

For whydidoit. I'm so sorry I forgot to mention my 9 years and counting of service to the Army, 25 of those months being deployed as a Cav Scout and Special Forces Medic. So if want to get in a pissing contest or my story is worst than your story, by all means, try. I hear all too often the stories about Soldiers saying they didn't know what they were getting into when they signed up, most of them post 9/11. Friends and family ask me all the time, how many people have you killed? My response to that is, if you sleep good at night, then what does it matter. I would much rather take the fight to them then see another Pearl Harbor or 9/11. So if you're looking for a pity party or hand-outs, just suck it up and drive on. You're not the only one. So again, get over yourself and do your job.

SoNotMe, I'm not actually from California, but have been there numerous times. I was only stressing my point and used San Fran as an emphasis to the amount of homosexuals in the army. My concerns are targeted to those who are thinking about joining, or those who know someone who might be thinking about joining. I'm just trying to provide an inside view of what it's like to be in the military. Example, we have a guy in our unit who needed ONE signature from his supervisor to enroll his sick brother on his medical insurance, as they were orphans and had no parents. That paper sat on his supervisor's desk for almost a year and was eventually found on top of the refrigerator down the hall - still with no signature! This soldier's brother died a slow death because the soldier could no longer afford his brother's medicine. He talks about it everyday, and it is painfully obvious that this is one of the most hurtful memories of his life. Another example, there was a female in our unit who had an affair and left her husband. While she was pregnant with her husband's baby (she didn't know she was pregnant at the time she left him), her husband, who also happened to be in the army, pushed our chain of command into "administrative punishment" and they demoted her (fine, adultery is against the military law), but then had her serve on extra duty (a term we use for hard labor punishment) while she was over six months pregnant (as this dragged out for some time) and was showing clear-cut signs of labor complications, depression, weight loss while pregnant, etc. After contacting the highest officer to report a complaint (the Inspector General), absolutely nothing was done about it. This woman had a documented medical history of miscarriages, yet, still, the punishment continued. No one was asking that she got off scott-free. Rather, simply post-pone the punishment until after the delivery. I have more stories like these that I wish I could tell the young, naive minds of America before they ruin their lives in the military. I'm done being this face-less, name-less puppet of the President, and I am ready for change. I don't think this war here is right. I think the U.S. is trying to police the world. It's almost as if the U.S. has retracted the right of any other nation, other than itself, to declare war on another country. Why haven't we been in Africa to help those people from the horrific amounts of genocide taking place there? Answer: because it conveniently does not fit into our already-booked war schedule. If we're going to police the world, then how about we start with those who really need help. I'm not defacing the bravery of the men and women in the military, not at all. But, it's hard to keep going when everyone around is forced to wear this ridiculous "smile" to the outside world, when on the inside they're frustrations are tearing them apart.

Well, Awades, how many deployments have YOU toured? How many people have you had to kill for the sake of one man's ego? How many marriages have you seen crumble from the lack of family support by your organization? How many times have you had your pride, self-worth, and personal values shredded by a man wearing more "rank" than you? How many? You wouldn't know the first thing about being a soldier. You wouldn't serve with a soldier like me because you're too busy enjoying your freedom across the ocean while the fight is taking place over here. You're right, however, I did raise my right hand and swear in. I also read the fine print, very closely, and nowhere in it did it read that I would have to endure the look of complete horror on children's faces because they don't recognize their own parents returning from tour. What's even worse is the look of the soldiers' faces as they realize everything they were fighting for was lost on a completely different level than they could imagine. Not physically, but emotionally. Get over myself? Hahaha. I'm hoping one day this violence over here spills into the streets of America and all the "suck it up and drive on" bravado that retarded people like you spit out will keep you company as YOUR family dies in horrible ways. Sadly, I may not even be able to see it, because I might still be over here "policing the world." In the meanwhile, don't join the army or you might find yourself next to me in a firefight, and I promise i won't be shooting in the same direction as you.

100 days, 1000 days - quite frankly, I don't care. The only thing I care about is how fast Mr. Obama can get me out of the military. By this I mean get me back to the U.S. and out of this stench of a country, Iraq, that has held me over my contractual date out of the military. Never have I experienced such a crude, self-satisfying, disgusting, arrogant, demoralizing mob anywhere in this world than I have experienced in my half decade in the army. Parents, potential soldiers, students, and all - if you're thinking about joining, or know someone who is, take it from a current soldier and RUN! The military is not a disciplined organization like the press might portray it. Over half of the soldiers I've asked have agreed that they would not be here in Iraq, or even in the army, were it not for the contractual obligation and fear of DEATH that the Uniform Code of Military Justice prescribes for "desertion." We can't even voice our opinion freely because we can't impede on the army's reputation that its own soldiers are disgusted with their service. The Rules of engagement here in Iraq are ridiculous. Every day we're hearing about soldiers being prosecuted for defending themselves in combat, and then being charged as "murderers!" Seriously, WTF? Serving America? America? Where? What the F*** is our presence here doing for America, other than securing our oil supply? I'm a strong believer that the President should be former military, as he/she may be more sensitive to sending soldiers to their death in an ungrateful foreign populace, and to put them before the personal vendetta of their fathers. Someone kidnap me and take me back to the States! Mr. Obama, please pull us out. We're all ready to go!

Ok Whydidoit, all you have to do is go tell your Lt. that you are gay and you want to sleep with him. I'm sure they will escort you directly to discharge and send your candy-ass, liberal whining "I didn't sign up for this!" butt home. You clearly do not belong in the military defending our freedoms and our way of life. You are far more suited to be butt-kissing Cindy Sheehan and whining about how you signed up for the education benefits and never expected to go to war. You should have a long career as a beauty stylist in a hair salon. Go tell your other two friends in Iraq the same thing. My son has served in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and he is still amazed at how high moral is in the service. He is preparing to leave his wife and newborn in March and go back to Afghanistan. He isn't real happy about the timing (he only has five months left in service and his son will be born in February) but he says it's his job. You see, he is a professional, and so is the young man on his right and on his left. They will all go and each one has the other's back. You, on the other hand, are questionable as to having any soldiers back. Go gay and go home, Whydidoit!

  • Posted By: awades @ 01/22/2009 2:35:23 PM

This is for whydidoit. Get over yourself. YOU signed the contract, YOU raised your hand and swore an oath, nobody forced your hand. There are stipulations and finely printed words in every job. Whether you like it or not you are an important asset not only to the military but our country. So do me a favor, stop complaining, do your time, and get out because I wouldn't want to fight next to a Soldier like you.

Its too bad you are not dead either with your worthless redneck grandparents. You do not represent anything in "white" america. You are in fact the problem. This is not a white america or a black america, but the United states of america. Yesterday was the single greatest day anyone alive could have witnessed. If you don't like the president we have, then this is still a free country, grab your inbread family, hitch up the family trailer, dig up your rotting grandparents and "freely" take your White Supremist life elsewhere.

I think that day actually happened about 2,000 yrs ago :) Sorry - it was a great day, but not that good. It's time for the new president to make things happen - no excuses. When people get beyond a materialistic culture and focus on their needs instead of wants, and maybe actually place others before themselves, it won't be a racial thing anymore - the color of a man's skin won't finally matter!

Well i think they feel prouder about their african heritage, because they don't want to forget their culture or their customs . I think when you are not original from here or your parents, family ,etc you don t' want forget where you come from but at the same time if u were born here you are an american and you should be proud of that too.

  • Posted By: awades @ 01/22/2009 11:02:03 AM

Something I've been thinking about lately and I would love to hear other's intellectual responses to this question. When someone is a mulatto, meaning black and white mix, why do none of them ever claim to be white and how proud they are of their heritage and where they came from? Not trying to start a culture war, just wondering. I will say this, President Obama can ACTUALLY say he is African-American. As someone in the military who has spoken to many who have served in Africa, many true Africans don't like the fact that the Blacks in America claim to be half African and they haven't even been there. If you were born here, you're American, get over it.

I'm still in mourning over the election. I think America got it wrong this time. I don't dislike Obama; I simply disagree with his political ideology. The promises this man made are astounding. He would have to be the "messiah" to make everything he promised happen and find ways to pay for it all without raising taxes into the stratosphere. He keeps equating this current economic crisis to the Truman depression but it doesn't compare at all! America had unemployment in the early 1930's that soared over 25% and sudden deflation of prices that rendered goods and services worthless. Economists have not even suggested that unemployment will top 8% nationally in this current crisis. This is a recession - not even close to a depression! The liberals have to make it sound far worse so that their messiah, Obama, can come in and fix everything and bring us back to prosperity in the next 9-15 months. Remember, the great depression endured for almost 3-1/2 years. Do I want him to succeed? No. I hope he wakes up from his Utopia dream and embraces long proven conservative principles to resuscitate our economy.

I believe that his departure will be sigh of relief and joy for the whole world. 20 January 2009 should be a day of joy and celebration for billions of people around the world to see the back of one of the biggest warmongers in the world history.
President G W Bush is war criminal responsible for the death of over one million innocent Iraqis and Afghanis and causing horrific destrution to their countries.

He became drunk with military power under his command and misused it immorally and criminally to bully people he did not like or hated.

He is a war criminal and deserves nothing but a hang man's rope. He showed the same disrespect to world opnion and United Nations as a dog shows to a lamp post.

Historian will judge him a man will small intellect and man who beloved in the law of jungle where the strongest kills the weak and small; and also he believes that "Might is right"

Go hug a tree and kiss your gay neighbor now, liberalite.

Ever heard of Caesar before? It doesn't matter which one you pick, those guys were the real "war mongers" throughout antiquity. Let's not forget about LBJ and the Vietnam War (that Kennedy started with "advisors". What about those guys? At least Bush got rid of a homicidal dictator who murdered thousands of Kurds. I you want a true war criminal, you should look at Hitler, Stalin, and Lenin. How many people died when FDR got us into WWII?!

One has to ask. Where do you get your balanced views from? Fox News? The Weekly Standard? National Review? Maybe Rush Limbaugh. Give it up propaganda puppet, you lost, your side is populated by losers, in a decline that may well lead to the death of the RepubliCON party.

        • Posted By: miamijer @ 01/21/2009 8:34:53 PM

The problem with Obama's plans is the expense, either direct or indirect. For example, while we all would like to have more "Green" energy sources, how many of us are willing to have our utility bills increase 50-60% to force a 20% increase in green energy sources (Wind & Solar)? And how many are willing to see a $5,000 per family increase in taxes to fund a National Health Plan? These are the real choices we face for the sake of taking high minded rhetoric and using it to make policy. There is no free lunch, and these are the tough decisions that Obama must face.

    • Posted By: pusscat @ 01/21/2009 4:13:20 PM

$5000 tax vs $18,000 I pay now for premiums? I'd make that trade in a heartbeat. (and, BTW- my coverage sucks and the deductible is $3000)

      • Posted By: klido @ 01/21/2009 9:53:00 PM

Individual policy? Family? you need to define the terms...history of medical conditions, take a lot of RX's? Even group insurance for an entire family is not that expensive! Most decent employers offer some sort of insurance to their employees, many of them cost share, but it is something. The individual insurance world I agree is screwed up and needs to be fixed, but leave employer sponosred plans and choice alone ~ i for one am not ready to move to a socialistic based society. America was built on freedoms, choice and the opportunity to prosper.
