Obama has just spent his first 24 HOURS as President of the united States and already people are looking for ways to chop him down. Obama's candidacy and election has already been the catalyst to profound change - our collective consciousness has expanded and changed. His effectiveness transcends race, political affiliation and all other issues that have been at the forefront - he is an intelligent, REASONABLE, analytical and inspiring leader. He is not a deity or a miracle worker. He has made no promises to change the current state of affairs - he has made a call for mobilization by American people both at a local and a global level. Quit trying to cut him down and be happy that we have someone in office who is not a complete moron - someone who has the chutzpah to challenge the stangant American status quo. It is beyond ridiculous to ask what he has accomplished as far in his term as President... this new journey is onyl in its infancy. And if you deny the positive effect that Obama and his administration will have on foreign relations, and evenutally foreign policy, then you are not paying attention.
As JFK said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but rather what you can do for your country."

Yesterday was one of the most exciting days in recorded history. Peoples' eyes have been opened, and hope has been renewed. THe UNited States can now be run with vision and leadership rather than brute force and ingorance. If that is not progress, I invite anyone to tell mw what is. @Mickey, My husband was at Home Depot the other day and noticed a profound change. The men standing there looking for day labor included Americans! In the past, it was only imigrants that were willing to work digging in a yard or moving boxes for less that $15/hour.

If the time has come when Americans are willing to sweat on the job again, we are finnally talking about Americans being displaced in their jobs by immigrants. More likely though, is that if they are willing to work, the Americans will displace thses immigrants.

You know, I am a foreigner in this country. I am not allowed to vote for that reason. So my voting does not play a factor in my opinion. If I would have been allowed to vote. I would have voted for that person that represent my beliefs, my goals and my beliefs in what is just and what is right.

Never ever have I seen America so divided as during this election. True, there is a lot to be devided about. This country is in quite a predicament. It's involved in multiple wars that are not judges as justified by most of the world. We are in an economic trices that has not been seen in many, many decades, we are no longer out of debt as was the case when the previous president left office, we are actually more in debt then ever before in history.

We are no longer the technological leader in innovation, since honestly almost all our technology is imported at this moment. Even an all American car, has most of it task specific parts made in a foreign country. If you go to a store it's almost impossible to buy anything that is not made in China ( acommunist country).

Now all that pales in the light of our biggest problem of all and that is our bipartisan party system. I don't care if you voted red, or blue. I don't care if you belief this president is the greatest thing ever happened or the biggest disaster ever. What I know today is that Barack Obama IS our president, that he is elected by the majority of the people, and by the people!

I hope that he is successful in his goals. I hope he is successful in being a leader. I hope he is successful in uniting the people of this great country. Successful in eliminating fear of the unknown, the other parties in this country, the other countries in the world, the other faiths in this country and in the world!

I am quoting a student at the ?University at Virginia, her name is Jessica Arden Ettinger!
Our prejudices arise from the fear of things we do not understand. If my generation has a single goal, it must be to promote education - education that advances us not only technologically, but also intuitively and emotionally. In today's fast paced world, advancing has to mean more than scientific discovery; it is our responsibility to force ourselves beyond our comfort zones and become knowledgeable about the people around us!

I can not say it any better. We need to learn to be able to watch other people from their point of view and we deserve the right to be seen the same way. I am proud to live in this great nation, to be part of a time where America is either going to change and write history or continue their part and going to be part of history!

We might have a chance to turnaround this country if...
...if Obama can understand that unions and environmental regulations are what ruined Detroit's ability to produce cars that people want at a price they can afford, and more of the same won't help.
...if Obama can understand that unions ruined our public school system, and more of the same won't help.
...if Obama can understand that capitalism and freedom from government intervention in our daily lives is what have set this country above all else.
...if he can overcome the fascist tendancies of Palosi and her "McCarthiest" chronies in the Senate and House and move this country forward.
Obama has a chance to be a truly transformative president, but I fear his beholding to the unions and his socialist ideals will doom the economic recovery effort, build an insurmountable financial burden for our children and granchildren, and turn our country into a second-class European socialist state.
    Good luck Mr. Obama.

To all of you mad conservatives out there I want you to do me a favor. It???s not very easy to get you hands on but it is possible I want you to get a copy of Hitler???s book ???Mien Kaumph??? and read his views on how a government should be run. You will see in this book that these neo-conservative believes you carry is exactly how he thinks and government should be run. Strong Military, a Government that acts without the people knowing what they are doing, a ruling class and lower class no middle, deregulation of funds, heavy interest affairs in other countries, it???s all there. Please conservatives realize what you really stand for.

Just as a last side note, if you'd actually read Hitler's book, you probably would've spelled the title correctly. It's Mein Kampf.

It's obvious that you look at the Democratic party with rose colored glasses. Obama is poised to make the federal government the biggest that its ever been, without substancially scaling back the U.S. military. Despite the fact that he wants to withdraw troops from Iraq, he will never order a complete pullout since we will keep a permanent base in that country (like Japan, Germany, and Cuba). Clintion, on the other hand, gutted the military so much that they ran out of spare parts for most of their machinery. A balance is needed, not extreme policies. We need the military!

BTW: A strong U.S. military, under Reagan, was responsible for the downfall of the old Soviet Union. What say U?

    • Posted By: bmunk @ 01/21/2009 2:15:11 PM

I can't believe you just tried to compare present day conservatives in the U.S. to Nazism especially using a book I would wager you've never read. So by negative implication, you're assuming that dems don't believe in a strong military or a ruling class? You're going to sit there and try to tell me that the national democratic party cares about the lower class? If you really feel the need to compare anyone to Hitler, ever, I suggest you take a step back, a long deep breath, and think about what you're saying before you say it. That comparison was appalling and ignorant. That's like comparing present day democrats to Stalin who was on the complete opposite end of the spectrum simply because you're both on the left. Part of the greatness of this country is the ability to publicly have opposing opinions but that should still come with a modicum of respect so have some respect for other people.

What could be worse than what Americans have been put through these past 8 years...? I. for on am willing to give Obama the chance, let's be patient...

Another eight years with a guy possessing little experience in the political pond! Palin had more experience in public office and more qualified than Obama. Bush didn't do such a bad job given the Democratically controlled Congress in his second term, not to mention the circumstances that he found hiimself in at that period of time.

That is why Barry recruited so many Clinton administration cronies! Since he lacks the experience himself, he knew he needed seasoned veterans on his staff. What happend to the "change" that Obama promised? Simply undoing most of Bush's policies is not akin to true change. Vision and leadership are required for meaningful change, rather than catchy sound bites. If Bush is the worst president in U.S. history, than Obama is the least qualified president in U.S. history. Barry is akin to the Cardinals in the Superbowl; full of promise, yet unproven!

President Obama has the floor that we as voters gave him in a free election. Now he has to make good his "change" policies. He will be judged on what he accomplishes as our President not what he says. The proof will be in the restoration of public confidence in his ability to lead.

Let the man have his place in history and see what he can do. If he succeeds then we are better off for it. If he fails then we know that "change' was ineffective and as a nation will resolve the issue in four years.

We are making history as a nation so let each of her citizens make today better for ourselves and our neighbors in the best way possible.

Respectifully to Mr President, Your speech was wonderful and I enjoyed every minute of it. You spoke of the past regarding the recession. Are you aware that just before that time when immigrants came to the US they were held at Ellis Island? Those immigrants had to have a sponsor, work, be able to support their familys and a place to live. They didn't come here and jump on welfare, food stamps, wic, etc. They even had to learn English. We didn't change things to German, Polish, Swedish, etc You get the picture. We live in North America. We speak English. Close the borders as our forefathers had done and maybe there might be some jobs for the Americans who live here. Why should the fat cats pay Americans good wages when the immigrants will do it for less and keep jobs from the Americans. Close the Borders. Please make that one of your 100 day accomplishments. Let us rebuild and get ourselves on our feet before helping others so much.

I was very pissed off by the entirely too long statement about Obama and being mixed race, whatever. The fact that you need to understand is that he's NOT neglecting his white heritage. he's EMBRACING his black heritage because for all the years this country existed NO one half black or TOTALLY black has been president EVER so how would it look if he went around saying oh im half let me clarify that for everyone. That's a total cop out because we all know that he's half white, why would he need to exaggerate the point?? It is very sad that even after such a BEAUTIFUL inaugaration, that people STILL need to talk about RACE!! *** RACE!! Our country's future is SO much bigger than that!! And Obama is not racist to white ppl! He loves ALL people and thats why he is our president! Do remember that before you sit up here and play the very OVERLY SWIPED race card! I'm over this! And it needs to stop NOW! Even John McCain was a bigger man and excepted Obama, considering the fact that HIS ANCESTORS OWNED A PLANTATION. Please. I dont have time for this. Beat me down with the comments all you please. This is REAL talk. And i will only consider what REAL people have to say. The OTHERS?? You further prove my point clearly. I guess i could thank you for that.

AFTER 911, we as Americans banded together and looked at ourselves as Red, White, and Blue, we saw no color in the lives that were lost, praised all those who sacrificed to try and save the many AMERICANS that were trapped in a disasterous hell created by others. Now, some eight years later, we are back to seeing ourselves again as African-Americans, Indian-Americans, Asian-Americans, etc...... Browns, Yellows, Reds, and Whites....the color of a person's skin tells little about them, the old addage "You Can't Judge a Book by It's Cover" still holds true. The color of my skin may be white, but, am I a European-American? Should I categorize myself as such, would I be considered a pro-white, neo-natzi, extreemist? I wish "We The People" would once again see ourselves as the Nation our forfathers had invisioned so many years ago. A nation seeking to free all people of tyranny, to welcome the huddled masses of those from around the world who sought freedom as they did! A Nation of AMERICANS. Yes United WE Stand, Divided WE Fall". Yes, mistakes have been made along the way, Yes, Obama's Presidency is a historical event for all Americans. As the speeker so galliantly stated, Brown can hang around, Yellow can be mellow, Red can get ahead, and White can embrace what is right. Americans have embraced what is rignt for many generations, yes, Americans. Were Martin Luther King Jr.'s followers only Black (Brown)? Llook back at the marches, there were other colors in the mix. Was Lincoln's skin not White, although I would venture to say he would not have looked at himself as a White-American, or European-American. Were there not Whites who fought against Slavery, were there not Whites who aided Blacks (Browns) in escaping the cruel chains of bondage found in the South many, many, years ago. Have we forgotten that Whites first came to this country to escape tyranny, and sold there souls as endentured servants, (Slaves) to escape persecution, and in doing so, stold what we call ours from the true Americans - Indians, (Reds) so named because a European Explorer thought he had reached the Indies, and if my memory does not fail me, of Spanish Origin. When will We once again become the Nation of United Peoples, instead of the separatist we are now. What will it take for us as people to see ourselves as Americans, yes, Americans, not hyphenated __________-Americans? When will we look back at the history of our Nation and realize that all races have suffered, yes, all races, in some way, at some point in our history. The price of Freedom is High. The Values this Nation was Founded on require much Sacrifice, all of us Browns, Yellows, Reds, and Whites, have suffered, yet we can still stand as One Again, yes as people of different back grounds, yet, United, as One People, AMERICANS......................................................

pj1m i am sorry but your whole post is pointless and yes I am pro choice, its no ones right to MAKE someone do or go through with something if they feel they are not ready or are not fit enough. All that would cause is more problem childs out there because there parents werent able to take care of them right. So as for your post sit down, shut up, and let people live THEIR lives in this FREE country.

As for Obama I say give the man a chance I like what he had to say on a lot of things and i think he can get us turned around if not out of this mess completely.

Tax and spend or more accurately today, borrow and spend. Isn't this how we got here in the first place!? Maybe "we the people" should have an educational sitdown with our politicians, both Democrats and Republicans. This is not a recovery plan it's a disaster plan. FDR prolonged the depression with the same tactics and strategy. Here is why it won't work with a little background. Remember the first bailout was to buy the bad mortgages from banks that had them? Instead "we" invested in the banks so we don't know which ones are really in trouble and guess what? They still have those bad debts so the problem is not fixed. That's why you hear the pols and their financial appointees saying the next round of bailout has to deal with buying the bad mortgages. Hello! Is anyone there!? This is insanity, throwing good money down the drain twice, and facilitated by you guys in the media who don't even mention this in the midst of your fawning Obama mania. The first round bailout was also used to help GM and Chrysler. The two of the old big 3 who were facing bankruptcy. Lets see how that worked. They are now offering zero financing to move their inventory. Ford and the other healthier companies are put at a disadvantage. To compete they might have to do the same which they weren't doing because it is bad micro economics for them and their shareholders and employees. So "we" reward the bad behavior, punish the good behavior and the auto execs and their unions don't fix the problems because there is no incentive to do so and to the contrary will be asking for more "help" now that we are in it with them. Does anyone out there get this!? Democrats and Republicans are both to blame. If Obama wants real change how about doing things differently for a change. We are in for a long and bumpy ride. And by the way, we already have a private sector $580 billion annual recovery plan in place that no one is talking about. The US imports over 16 millioin barrels of oil a day at current reduced consumption rates, 365 days a year. The price of a barrell just went down over $100 a barrell. Do the math (lawyers=politicians are light on math). No borrowing, no increased spending and no taxing. Wow. We all know this is working every time we fill up at the gas station. We have more disposable income without counting our industries that run on oil. And is anyone calling the pols to task for the decption on how the money was to be used in the first place? Seems like lying to me and maybe immoral. Seems like our pols can get away with stuff that would get you fired in the private (read real) sector) or even get you in trouble with the law. But hey, what do I know, I don't have a law degree. As I said, we are in for a bumpy ride.

Most news in Europe indicate that "the world is sceptical, thinking that the honeymoon is over." As a concerned American, I sure would like to know what has President Obama done since he has assumed the presidency. Has the national debt been reduced? By how much? We sure want to hear? How about Iraq and Afghanistan? Have those wars been won, as Sen. Obama has been promising? And the mortage crisis, what about the millions of Americans that have been evicted? I just got confirmation that President Obama has signed the so-called "offset" bill to reduce the vital Social Security benefits to millions of citizens who incurred federal debts, student and otherwise. I wonder: How those students who voted for Obama will be feeling now? The bottom line here is this: I wish America the best, but I fear the worst! I fear that we have been duped by Ophrah type shallow blabbering! Which is why we need daily update on Mr. Obama's promises, are they being realized, or not! We deserve this much!

It had to be the USA the only country in the world with people that will elect for president a person with bias values, which undeniable racist connotations, which has denied his father???s religion and forgotten his mother???s heritage, and which with seemingly clean conscious trusted face calls himself a black person, knowing his mother was white?

But isn???t the USA the country were people call a person that speaks Spanish a ???Mexican???

The country were foot ball is called soccer contrary to ALL countries in the world, and 300 millions fans.

The country that sings to America, knowing that AMERICA is a continent not a country.

The only country with a government agency that does not how to classify the son of a white a black person correctly.

    Please??? I should not continue.

We the people have the perfect opportunity to step in now and forever. We must let our congress men and women know what we want and how we feel. We must let them know that if we don't see more improvement for we the citizens not the the coporate world that we can get them out of their offices just as fast as we got them in. What we need to do is get people in these offices who understand and have been in many of the situations that many of us are in. Let us band together and get new men and women in congress, some one that cares about we the people. We need to have men and women in these offices that can say "NO" to the president, need men and women who can take the blame for the country's failures without blaming someone else. We need men and women who will take in consideration the situations here at home before we get involved with other countries. We have people here in the USA who are starving, need a home, need health care, needs a job. We need people in office who will do research on any and alll subjects that comes in front of them, instead of taking someone else word, before they vote on any and all bills. We need people in governement offices, such as congress to take the blame when times goes wrong instead of putting the blame on someone else. We need people in government held offices to stand up and say "We did wrong." Right now the our congress men and women and we as society are blaming the president for the mess that our country is in right now. Then when things goes right, the victory goes to the men and women of congress and the president is shut out. I believe that our past presidents have been left out and not told the truth by our men and women of congress or his advisors. Let us WE THE PEOPLE that back our country, let us not lut our complete trust in those who are in government offices. Let our voices be heard and let us not give up till out voices are heard. Let us keep a tighter rope on those we elect to these government offices, township, county, state, federal etc. This is God's country and he has given it to us so that it may prosper.

This may be a very simple and novice perspective but I feel very strongly that rather than a stimulus package that involves a lump sum payout - which, in the past has afforded the majority of my generation a new high end video game console that in turn stimulatied JAPAN's economy - seems to me the package would be better aimed at cutting the costs of domestic products and services, giving a little back in our paychecks and taxes and giving middle america the pshychoeconomic stabilty to return to the comfortable spending habits that made us frequently shop on the way home from work or make weekend trips to the mall with the family... anyone can appreciate an extra chunk of cash, especially when you didnt expect it but if you give it all over to a Japanese electronics manufacturer or foriegn oil company - who really gets the benefit?

I do pray that all works out for Obama and for the America, however one point I noticed seems to be how these televised sessions that he plans to have in order to gain "popularity" seems earily similar to the "two minutes hate" of George Orwell's 1984. Are we going to be listening to how all of his ideas are great and any thoughts that may oppose his position are from "crazy" people that need to be rehabilitated? Are those people that disagree going to be "vaporized" so that he will dominate government. Let's keep in mind that he only won 53% of the popular vote which is far from a landslide. Again, I hope and pray for the sake of our country that everything works out for the best while Obama is President, but must we really hear his propaganda once a week and be limited to the amount of opposing opinions that are heard? I say no.
