Bush lied to the Christians. I remeber when bush was going for his 2nd term and a young christian stood up in the room and said "for the first time I feel that god would be in the White House". What a joke. Christians are supposed to be like sheep? But you can't lie, cheat, and steal in the name of a vote with out backlash.

the republican party besides being the party of no, duh and Perverts are the true Baby killers.

Young evangelicals voted for Obama because they don't believe that Jesus is really their savior.

that's bull and you know it. the reason they are changing is that they have finally figured out that the GOP is selling them a bill of goods.

the republican party has finally run it's course with the phony abortion rhetoric. the democrats do more to curb abortions than the GOP has ever done and since the issues are more than just the abortion issue the thinking christians have rejected the phony GOP.

What administration was responsible for the trillions of dollars in debt to China that we are now in? If you answered the Bush administration you are correct. Who ordered illegal torture methods that was in direct violation of the Geneva Convention? Bush and Cheney and whoever else went along with it. Who completely stiffed the working class Americans while kissing-up to corporate corruption?...the GOP. Who keeps lying to the American public...to misinform, mislead, divide and conquer with little half-truths and lies?...the GOP. Who continues to misinform the American public about real workers' rights?...the GOP. Who pretends to ride a "moral bandwagon" while giving the American people the royal screwing?...the GOP. Wow, I did pretty good on this test because I answered all of the questions correctly.

If your spelling(and/or grammar) is anything to go by, you have common sense, or lack thereof, of most of the republican party. How's it feel to be a god fearing mouth-breather you tool?

Logicteacher...Learn proper grammar and how to spell words correctly...I am not twisting anything...why do I bother you? And, no, I wasn't attempting to be right, I was actually confessing many of my wrongs...in sum, kiss-off yanghole!

  • Posted By: logicteacher @ 01/31/2009 4:28:42 AM

Qidisrupt, Who ever said Righteousness was attained by your own goodness ? your twisting now in an attempt to be RIGHT. And, The Prodigal Son LEFT a life style of Sin and returned to the father, thats why they had the party. Do you think the party was just because he came back home ? as if GOD could not love him away from home.
Jesus said this to the woman caught in adultery,
John 8:11 "No one, sir," she said.
"Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."
Jesus loves all, yet the party will be when they leave the life of sin and believe. ( not sinless, stop practicing sin )

  • Posted By: Qidisrupt @ 01/30/2009 9:50:33 PM

Pursuing righteousness is not a useless pursuit...but, trying to be good enough is a useless pursuit. You are getting religion tangled up with relationship. Read my post thouroughly before you begin spewing scripture. There is no logic in God's love for us. The prodigal son was a wicked, sinful mess...the father welcomed him back with open arms, compassion, and threw a celebration for the son...not because the son was good enough, but because his father loved him. Jesus clearly states in scripture that if we forgive others' sins, He will forgive us. The Bible also clearly states that there is none righteous, no, not one. King David comitted murder, adultery, and stole the consecrated bread because he was hungry...yet, King David was a man after God's own heart. Paul committed murder against early Christians, yet God loved Paul. Jesus also declared that ALL sins have been forgiven...except blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Rahab the prostitute was considered righteous in God's eyes because she helped the spies escape...not because she was good enough. My righteousness is the blood of Jesus...not my own goodness. No, I do not purpose to go out and sin my guts out so grace may abound...but, I still do sin. Remember the book of James...encourages all of us to confess our sins to one another so that we may be healed. I will confess a few of my sins...mention the name George W. Bush, Cheney, Rove, Limbaugh, sweetie-pie Palin or any other GOP two-faced crook; you may hear me not speak kindly of the economic shambles and stiffing of the working class people that they have accomplished. If you come up to me and unexpectedly smack me, I may return in kind. If you would pull out point-blank in front of me while driving, I may say words that I shouldn't...and I would fail at words of encouragement at this moment. I have more sinful failings that I am in need of forgiveness for, but I would be spending too much days to confess more of my sins. G-bye!

Danzman, Vaya con Dios!! That???s funny :) but let's be real for a moment. Our founding fathers built an incredible country that I am extremely proud to be part of but when you extol the principles of our founding fathers let's not pretend that their view on race was not skewed. (Oh wait, sorry I'm doing the tangent thing again) If you are going to bring up the principles of our founding father then bring up all their principles including their views on race. Let's not pretend that because our founding fathers were Christians that they could not be racist, who could not imagine an African American as President. (Aaww man! I???m doing the ???tangent??? again!) Ok I???m a lost cause! I???m one of those ignorant Christian who are actually willing to talk about race! SORRY to make you uncomfortable. I keep forgetting we now live in a post racial society so we don???t have to address issues of race. You all pray that when I grow up I can come to my senses and become a Evangelical (Can black people be evangelical or are we just Charismatic? Someone check the evangelical handbook and get back to me) oh and I really do think the Vaya con Dios comment is FUNNY!!
    Oh and FYI -
Separate but equal is a set phrase that systems of segregation giving different "colored only" facilities or services with the declaration that the quality of each group's public facilities remain equal. The phrase also came from the article written by an anonymous person in 1869. The article titled "Separate but Equal" was about how people had equal rights but were separated because of race.

  • Posted By: M.P. Rodriguez @ 01/29/2009 2:01:36 PM

Danzman, what part of the foundational principles should we return too? seperate but equal or people who look like Obama should be considered worth less than a white man? I'm not sure but for just too make sure we are on the same page I had to ask.

    • Posted By: Danzman @ 01/29/2009 10:43:21 PM

M.P. Rodriguez, I am referring to the Christian principles on which our nation was founded. All of our founding fathers were God fearing, Bible believing, Bible quoting men of faith and prayer. We are getting further and further away from those principles in this country. Obama is sending our hard earned money overseas to help fund abortions[Kill babies]. He was the most liberal member of the Senate. He was even further to the left than Kennedy and Kerry. He is a secular humanist whose goal is to turn this country away from God, increase abortions, kowtow to the gay and lesbian community, raise taxes, put our country so far in debt, even our grandchildren will be paying for his nuttiness. I have no idea what you are referring to as far as "separate but equal" and demeaning of blacks or other people of color. Get someone to interpret what I said for you so you will not be going off on a strange tangent. Vaya con Dios, Senor!!!

Darincoveyjc...we can agree to disagree...I will never want to be good enough...it would be a useless pursuit; and I don't have a religion in which my performance earns God's love for me...no thanks; I'll stick with my relationship with Jesus. And another thing, I am in the Word daily...no more ignorant comments from the peanut gallery, OK?

    • Posted By: logicteacher @ 01/29/2009 7:39:34 PM

Hmmmm, usless pursuit ? are you in this part of the WORD ?
2ND Timothy 2:22 Flee the evil desires of youth, and PURSUE righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Proverbs 15:9 The LORD detests the way of the wicked
but he loves those who PURSUE righteousness.
I agree with your other comments here though.

I am a retired pastor, having served churches as a pastor and the military as a chaplain. Idealism is not the problem as the closing comment, suggests. The issue is truth and truth shall stand despite this young pastor's rebellion against it. Murdering the unborn is not acceptable and homosexuality is a gross violation of human relations as intended by God. If it were practiced on a universal scale, it would mean the end of civilization. There is no biblical or logical argument for accepting homosexuality as some kind of acceptable life style. It is an old sin, like drunkenness that has been around a long time and all of the cultural pressures for acceptance can not change the truth, it is a perversion of what God gift of human sexual relations between a man and woman, only.

I pity this young man for his naivety. His church shall be forever small for no true Christian will ever care to worship with those that pervert the truth. I wonder which "god" he was praying to about starting a new church. I think most likely, he was in trouble and seeking a way to maintain his salary and escape his more conservative roots.

I am a member of Southside, and this article is slanted. We love Jesus and are very accepting people. Pastor Hancock is awesome. This article creates more division than unity in the Christian community. There is one path to God... a personal relationship with Jesus!

I doubt very much that a collection of over-translated superstitions from the bronze age has anything to do with God..much less be the only true path to the divine. We need to STOP using what many, many people believe to be myths and superstition to meddle in other peoples lives.

Well said fritton...the truth is that we will all go to heaven some day...the problem is if you see a white throne then it was nice knowing ya...are you a betting man by chance? :)

or through the touching of your preist/pastor! yes I said Touchings! a bunch of sick pedophiles - that's all it is - a bunch of men who liked little boys so they became "men of God: so they could prey on thse young boys under the cloak of a good christian! ha!

I am very saden by your reply. It sounds like you have had a very difficult time in life. I asume you don't go to Southside. Our church while not perfect is a Holiness church and would NEVER condone any thing like what you mentioned. I have been going there for over 30 years. My husband and I raised 5 wonderful children in this church. Our grandchildren and wonderful friends go there. If you would like to experience Southside for yourself I would be happy to meet you at the front door and let you experience our church home. Then you can truly make a judgement on what you know instead of what you don't.

There are many, many of us who believe that the bible has anything to do with the divine at all and we would really appreciate it if you stopped using your medieval myths to meddle in our lives.

I dont know what you all are arguing about. Everyone will get to heaven. The problem is if you see a white throne, then it was nice knowing ya!

I guess we are now told (by the news) that those of us who are Christians are switching to an emphasis on protecting the environment, AIDS relief, and fighting world hunger. I have not experienced this to be the case. I beleive that while these causes are quite worthwhile, they still have not replaced the fight for the unborn or the culture war versus secular humanism. It seems that fighting AIDS and poverty on the other side of the world is the easy way out IMHO. You don't need to ask questions about someone's path to salvation (which results in confrontation or Heaven forbid, even in human interraction) or discuss the way a person is living their lives. So this is what the media is telling us we have switched to/must switch to. Again, I don't believe this to be case, just what the medi wants us to focus on instead.

I found your article rather interesting and actually very sad. I think sometimes we as parents can do a disservice to our children when we neglect to teach them how to have a loving intimate relationship with Jesus rather than strictly going to church all the time. There is a great difference. You see, Christianity is not religious, but relational. We need to teach our young people how to ???own their faith???. I can???t save my child, only Jesus can do that. All I can do is instruct him in ???the way he should go??? (Proverbs 22:6). While Christians must uphold the beliefs taught by Jesus Christ, often the method of teaching it may be different. Times change, as do people so the Christian church must take a healthy look at the next generation and what they are searching for. The church I attend, really focuses on the young people because we understand that they are the future of the Christian faith. You should check out www.generatelife.com to get an accurate picture of what a lot of young people are thinking today with regards to Christianity. They are vibrant, alive, and passionate about the truth of God, without compromising it.

One more thing, yes there are SO CALLED CHRISTIANS.,.....ones that do go to war, ones that do get involved with politics, ones that DO NOT KNOW what they are preaching about because they fail to MAKE SURE OF ALL THINGS therefore they spread untruths, but if you really are seeking to find out the TRUTH about GIOD pray to him in his son's name JESUS CHRIST and he will send you the much needed TRUTH you are looking for!

Im not putting down the evolutionists because they are just trying to explain something they don't understand. If you think that there can just be this big explosion, and the earth and all the other planets and stars can come to rest in perfect position to maintain and sustain and create life then you are severly in denial probably because you are afraid to be held accountable to GOD......which in the end you are going to be anyways."CHEERS"

..................................The Evangelicals are too busy playing like they are so righteous and making criticisms of other people and how they live their lives. The Evangelicals will be thought of for many years as part of the Bush Coalition that brought the disasterous George Bush into the Presidency........The Evangelicals need to stay out of politics and focus on helping people in need!!!!!!!

By reading these comments make me realize how religion is so terrible. The mind can really wander when you have an invisible friend to talk to. Or an invisable friend to worship, an invisble friend that does not reply or answer back to you. Think about it people, religion is a dangerous thing. If you don't believe me just listen to yourselves.

      • Posted By: HadEnough! @ 01/25/2009 2:14:31 PM

Well put. I have never bought into the idea of the so-called christian god. religion was "invented' by earlier civilizations to 1. explain things that could not yet be explained by scientific facts, and 2. to keep people in line. The reason the so-called "christians" posting here are so quick to resort to name-calling is based on ignorance and fear. As people become more educated, the belief system they were raised with becomes painfully flawed. That there are folks out there who still don't believe in evolution, despite the scientific evidence abundantly available, shows that lack of education or intelligence.

The Earth is only 6000 yrs old??? Then where do dinosaur fossils fit in? If god is real, where is the proof? If god is all loving and forgiving, why aren't his followers? Why all the anger when someone voices a belief different from their own? Condoms cause AIDS??? Birth control is wrong, on a planet that is seriously overpopulated already? Does the "Religious Right" have any idea of how the Bush administration used them to further it's own agenda? Do they really believe that god "talked to" George Bush? If god is so all-powerful and all-knowing, then he's intelligent enough to start answering some of these questions. If Adam & Eve were the first two people god made, then who did their sons marry? Even a child can see the holes in stories that have so many unbelievable statements in them.

The definition of the word Faith, in Webster's Dictionary, is "Complete confidence, especially in someone or something open to question or suspicion". If Jesus really existed, he was a visionary of his times, nothing more. The bible is a book of fables and tall tales. We're wasting our time here if we're trying to change each others' point of view. As long as people continue to keep their eyes closed and their ears shut, there can be no meaningful discussion.

Sorry to disappoint ya, pharisee Darincoveyjc, I will never be good enough and I never want to be. I will always need forgiveness for my sins. That is why I need a savior, how about you?

    • Posted By: darincoveyjc@cox.net @ 01/25/2009 1:26:05 PM

I agree with you 100% on everything except " i dont want to be " I never will be yet the Holy Spirit that dwells in me most certainly makes me want to be. Keep studying and your gonna get it. Im not questioning your Christianity yet just by some of your comments, you need to be in the Word much more. Pharisees saw themselves as holy, I am a filthy rag whose righteousness comes only through Jesus Christ.
