I would hope so, but given past Democrat-Socialist-Utopias, I fear that the Obama team will continue to reward apathy, laziness, and deceit and instead continue to spend money to win the votes of the "proles". There is a problem with definitions here Ecumenical means "pertaining to the whole CHristan church." Maybe the writer meant that Warren should not have said Jesus in order to strike a concilitaory tone with other religions. The problem is, If this is a news piece, then the writer should not have added the line "He should't have" into the piece. That is editoralizing not reporting. This is the worst kind of article it is an editoral that is passed off as news.

A little late in the day to reply, but I see this refrain around here over and over. The columnists here are editorializing, that's what columns are all about. Its been that way in the print world for 200 years now at least. Do you really believe that George Will's column is straight news? Don't confuse columnists with straight news, they are offering their commentary on the news. Sometime they present aspects of the news that aren't carried on the news oriented part of the site, and debating whether they got the facts right they are offering commentary on is fair, but the primary purpose of a columnist is to give their prospective of what the news means. If you don't like their perspective, then read somebody else.

The Christians believe in Him, The Muslims believe in Him, as do the Jews - albeit slightly differently than we do. As an atheist, I am not at all offended by the mention of Christ in public or Nativity scenes etc. etc. Please do not do yourself the disservice of believing that all atheists are annoying.
Also, it's not as though I "choose" to be an atheist. I am familiar with the miracles claimed by all of the major religions and I honestly find them to be unbelievable. There is no "choice" involved. Refrain from pretending that we atheists are all jerks that secretly know the "truth" but just insist on being difficult. -

- I'm not at all offended by folks mentioning Christ's name. Folks who are offended by that and Nativity scenes, etc. aren't offended because they are atheists...they are offended because they are annoying. Please make an honest effort to realize that "atheist" and "annoying" can often overlap, but not always.
- As an atheist, please attempt to understand that I don't "choose" to believe in anything. I am an atheist because I have reviewed all of the major religions (and some of the minor ones) and I HONESTLY find their claims of miracles to be unbelievable. It's not as though I or other atheists secretly believe and we're just being jerks, we honestly don't believe in what religous folks do. I could claim that I believe Christ was resurrected or that Moses parted the Red Sea, but I would be lying. I'd just assume not lie.

If you don't believe Geithner made an innocent mistake when he did not pay the $34,000 taxes over a 4 year period, call or write your U.S. Senators in your state and tell them that you don't approve of Geithner for the Secretary of the U.S. Treasury. Ask your senators not to confirm him for that position. I don't think we want to knowingly start out with a Secretary of the Treasury who appears to be dishonest. I called the senators in my state today and left that message for them. Folks, it is my country and your country. Obama and all the rest of them work for us. If you get involved and let them know you are watching what they do, they will pay attention if they get enough letters or phone calls. Remember, members of congress come up for re-election in two years. They will listen to their constituents when there are enough voices. Let's keep involved and not let another administration ruin our country with appointees of questionable character.

This election brought joy to half the nation, fear and loathing to the 51+ million that voted, not for John McCain, but AGAINST Obama. Just exactly where did you go to school? (if you did) Corporate America caused this? That nakes no sense at all...none. Corporate America, unlike any governement, is out to make a profit. They will only embark on a project if they feel they will make money, After, paying all of their bills, inclunding their employees. The reason companies moved off shore arebecause of three major road blocks. One, the second highest corporate tax rates in the WORLD, environmental regulations, and unions. Look at Ireland, they lowerd the corporate tax rate anf the contry is boomimg.
The President does not create a single job, nor should he. This is a country based on free market principles. The more the government gets involved, the worse it gets. The main reson for this down turn was the CRA, community reinvestment act, started by Carter. This forced(yes, FORCED) banks to start loaning money to people that most likely could not afford the payments, all in an effort to increase poor and minority home ownership. Clinton expanded the program and made it a rule that 50% of bad mortages was the target. They then made FM and FM buy those mortages. THis was government REGULATION that caused the crisis. The government has NO business in the arena of social engineering....it does not work, and it removes the checks and balances of the market. Conveniently, the government, and uninfirmed people like you, blame the market.
While wrong, and uninformed, you started out your argument with details and substance, then you threw out the "obligatory" racisim charge. I do not like Obama, I think he is too inexperienced, has never led anything, has never had a real job, and is TOO far left, he has already appointed 4 people that should never be confirmed, his tenurein Chicago is maked with devious doings, he has surrounded himself with questionable characters, and he has no idea what so ever, about the economy, and quite frankly, he scares me. Think about this as we begin to embark on Investing in America.....if we as a Ctry can spend 10, that is 10 TRILLION DOLLARS ON WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION EVERY YEAR........isn't 750 billion dollars chump change to invest in ourselves? Why would we as a family chose to support violence and the tools to create violence more than we would choose to invest in ourselves?

Obama is ushering in the zombie era. If we thought that people around Bush were uncritical, then Obama has topped that. Not only will his staff be uncritical, but neither will the media, democrats or progressives. This is frightening. All of the oooooh, Obama articles from the media are frightening to me. And my parents drank from segregated fountains, marched for the right to vote, went to segregated schools, etc. But I hardly felt "sheer joy" yesterday. Alter - when will you (and everyone else) start doing real analysis of Obama, rather than just writing effusively about how wonderful he is? Everytime I read an article about him, I have to wipe saliva from my computer.

If on the other hand you give the tax dollars BACK to the working people of the country through the paychecks they earn rebuilding the infrastructure that you neocons have allowed to deterioriate for the last 30 years, if you mean taking tax dollars and hiring 100,000 more constibles on patrol like we had for 8 years before AWOL george stole the election, if you mean the tax dollars that go to making sure our food and water safe to eat and drink, sorry, that's NOT socialism-find another scare word. Your failed policies, foriegn and domestic have been justifiably consigned to the dustbin of history just like the earlier brand of Nazism.

Like I said - you have NO idea what "socialism" is - and what on earth do you think giving 80% of the +$200BILLION annual tax cut to folks making, on average, over $4MILLION/YR did to help your business? I kinda doubt those folks "shop in your store". Ameriica is the ONLY industrialized country where guys like you are stuck with the choice of giving your employees some sort of health care and making a profit. the only reason we can all afford auto insurance is that about 50 years ago our grandparents were sharp enough to see that if EVERYBODY had to be covered, then EVERYBODY could afford to be covered, which is exactly what the rest of the world figured out about healt insurance. the sad fact is that IF we applied the social security tax to ALL income, we would have enough to provide full coverage for the entire country, no problem. i guess you're to busy making a living to spend time in the IRS data base to find out just how incredibly much the top 1% in this country is making (and NOTpaying FICA on a dime of it). Just to save you the time of doing the research (i got paid to do it) here's a thought: Ameerican cars have to recover something like $3000 each to cover the cost of health insurance for the autoworkers and retirees - but Mercediee, toyota, etc do NOT have to pay that bill - so which company is better off)

Who was it that pressuring Bush w/ the bail-outs? Democrats - so banks could start lending to fat-greedy Americans who can't live within their means get more money for their ATV's, Motor-homes, Escalades, gold chains, etc (gutter trash). By the why, if don't make over 100,000 dollars a year.....You pay nothing in taxes and people like me really support you! Try paying a 320,000 dollars in federal income tax and then get back to me about how you feel about the government taking your money to pay for lazy Americans.
PS. If you actually studied your history, you would know that the Nazis were fascists. Plus how dare you compare Nazism to Republicans. Do you have any class? But then again, they don't teach you that in the ghetto....they just teach you to be a burden on society.-

You are one sick puppy - less than 100K and i pay no tax? Here's a reality check for ya - it makes no difference what you PAY in taxes, its how much you have left AFTER you pay the taxes. Abd I have studied history, not just listened to Rush - the Nazi's opposed all labor unions, provided a regressive tax system that put the burden on the middle class and labeled anyone who spoke against them a commie - yeah, just like the Republicaqns.

Seems I remember the Democrats wanting it very badly, very badly and begging for those who opposed to vote on it. The American people let them know they didn't want the bailouts, but remember everyone told Bush it was the right thing to do. Sometimes we should listen to the people and not eggheads.

Guess again neocon dupe - the Dems wanted to help the middle class by getting credit flowing again - Itt was bush and only bush that ignored all the provisions for accountability and just shoveled the money to his owners on Wall St. Now the republidupes oppose spending money on infrastructure (that means roads you drive on, schools your kids attend, water treatment plants at the other end of your tap, etc etc) with the work being done by middle class citizens who will use the money to pay off their debts, buy clothes and food for their families, get a new TV - instead of the loyal bushies who make so much any increase will just go for T-bills, the interest payments to be made by your grandkids until they too are grandpas. for Republidupes, "socialism" is anything that provides a benefit to the middle class,
