These are rights that exist in Israel and nowhere else in the Middle East. So why is it that the country that is most sympathetic to progressive values gets the least of progressive sympathies?"

it is therefore very strange that, because of their rabid anti Israel views, these progressives have turned into apologists for Islamic fundamentalists (such as hamas and hezbollah) who loath and despise every progressive belief that these folks hold dear.

if peace were ever to exist, palestine or even worse the "one state solution" (which would result in the demographic destruction of the state of israel) would be just another arab cesspool, where women are despised and oppressed, other religions disrespected (and forbidden) and gay people murdered.

Makkar, charged with forging identification documents, explained her reasons for her conversion, avowing her Christian faith and repudiating the judge???s claims that converting from Islam to Christianity was impossible.
???Then he said, ???I want to talk with Martha alone,??? so we all left the room, and he said to her, ???Nobody changes from Muslim to Christian ??? you are a Muslim,?????? Tawfiq said. ???And she said, ???No, I am a Christian.??? He told her, ???If I had a knife now, I would kill you.??? [Makkar] came out crying and depressed, but at least he gave the decision to let her go free.???

The problem with Palestine is so complex that no party is totally right or totally wrong. Can you imagine how many Arabs are living in the world and in that region and how many Israelis? I don't think that any Arabic country, or at least their dictators, have any real intention to help to solve the Palestine problem. Even the Palestine leaders including Arafat have responsibility in todays situation and I don't think that they are really unhappy with that.

Every regime needs enemies, and Israel should be kept as an enemy to keep their position and dictatorship. Mobarak in Egypt, Kaddafi in Lybia, the Sheichs in Saudi Arabia, Esad in Syria, Abdollah in Jordan, the mullas in Iran are happy today seeing the killings in Palestine.

Israel would be right in defending itself, if they would accept the results of the free elections in Gaza and not have kidnapped the elected leaders of Hamas and keep the ambargo to the Gaza strip although they had promised and agreed on cancelling it. By the way, it was the one and only free election in the Arabic world!

Can you imagine that you are trapped within several kilometers, don't have anything to eat and drink, unless Israel allows it? Cannot travel to any part of the world unless your neighbour country allows it, cannot get proper education, cannot get proper health service, most of your leader you have elected have been kidnapped by your neighbour country and nobody in the world is caring about this, nobody listens to you? What would you do?

Imagine that, your land you have been living and planting has been taken by some imigrants, who come from different parts of the world, and nobody is listening to you, what would you do?

Imagine that, the ones who occupy your land, which belong to your fathers ( I mean not the recognised borders, but the internationally recognised palestine land) have every weapon including nukes and you don't have anything but home made rockets and some small arms, what would you do?

Imagine that your home is bombed by every king of ammonution, killing your baby, killing your wife although you don't have anything to do with politics just because your neighbour is a member of a party, what would you do?

Imagine that you don't have anything to loose but your life and you don't see any future and your hate is growing and growing against the ones who you see as responsible for that, what would you do?

If you can answer these questions independently of thinking about religion or race, than perhaps you can understand that it is not easy to define terrorism sometimes.

I don't think that the killings will end there, and I don't see any peace in the future unless the world and especially USA gets involved. But keeping this problem as it is makes it also possible to keep the so called enemy, the islamic terrorism. And as I said, every regime needs enemies, even the western world.

Who is responsible for civilian deaths in Gaza? This is easy - George Bush. His policies created an environment where the only course that Hamas had was to fire rocket. They did this to get attention to the fact that they were starving and had no medical or other serves. Notice that 6 months of rocket firing and no Israeli's were killed, Hamas has been aiming at unpopulate areas. Bush set this up so his por-Israeli cronies could profit from weapons sales to the IDF, the munitions you saw on TV that were illegal phosphoros were of US manufacture. These were sent specifically by the Bush administration to torture innocent civilians, burning them to death with chemical agents. Obama immediatly called for the return of any unused weapons, and gave a speach about it. His words inspired Hamas and others, once Goerge Mitchell arrived in Daza all will CHANGE. The answer to all this Bush evil has arrived.

Why are these poor people isolated in camps? Israel doesn't surround them, does it? What have they been doing since 1967, or 1948? We have had many refugees from war come to the US and we don't put them in camps. We allow them to get education and jobs, and eventually become citizens if they desire it. It seems like their Arab hosts could have been helping them all along but they haven't. Why not? Why is it only Israel's fault that these people are disenfranchised?

Wasn't it the Arab coalition that was preparing to attack Israel in 1967 the ones who forced the local inhabitants of the West Bank and Gaza to evacuate so they would not get in the way of the mighty Arab armies? It seems like the fair thing would be for those attacking countries to host the refugees in a civilized manner. But that is not the case. Is it really because these "moderate" Arab states also fear Hamas and other Iranian influenced extremist organizations themselves?

I'm disgusted at the last comment. If anyone says it's terrible for the Israeli soldiers to shoot kids in front of their parents, people bring up the term "antisemitism".
It now seems like Israels use this term to get away with murder..and that just is NOT RIGHT.
FYI, Palestinians are from the race that is considered semites. What the Israelis are doing is considered antisemitic.

Its not time to fix the responsibility on either Israel or Hamas for the useless killing of innocent people in Gaza. All should try their best to mitigate the suffering of homeless, foodless, sick people in Gaza. Think of hungry,malnutrited sick children and people spending days and nights in the open air.The hospitals are without medicines and facilities. Is it time for politics or the funny behaviour like that of BBC on if they can air appeal for help for the Gazan homeless people?

The world is watching over TV the condition of the hapless people in Gaza. But vast majority of the watchers are helpless and powerless to do anything for them.

The world powers too are watching and have known much more through their apparatus. But they have never been willing or interested to go to the deep of why this situation persist and resolve the dispute? The countries in the region have failed for more than 60 years to come to an understanding and as a result the poor innocent people have become victims of killing and suffering.

Right and wrong & Justice and injustice have only one defintion. What is fair to you is also fair to others. So bad is bad for everyone. In the past we have seen the world was divided into two camps, the US and Russaia. But things over the years have changed and US is the only superpower of the day and it is now trying to regain the moral high ground lost over years. President Obama has appointed Senator Mitchel as mideast envoy. Hopefully the new administration is sincere in its efforts. It may not be out of context to organize a joint meeting of organizations like Vatican (Representing the Christians),OIC & Representing the Muslims) and the Orgnization representing the Jews. To all of them the region is sacred.

I am a muslim and we beleive and have faith in Moses & Jesus are our prophet so does the Christians and Jews and to my knowledge Jerusalem is equally sacred to all the three faiths, Christian, Jews & Muslim. All we need to consider that we are human being first and Christian, Jews and Muslim later and are decendents of Adam and Eve. Why should we fight amongst ourselves, who is getting killed surely another brother and sister.?

Is it not time forget the past and work for a better future when there will be no poverty, hunger and injustice.
