I subscribe to the online edition of the NYT for one reason; so I will know the positions of the enemies of the US. Good riddance, I say. The NYT has had every opportunity to provide accurate news. Instead, they chose to constantly slant every story to the left. The news media is given protection by the US Constitution SO THAT they will provide an unfiltered voice. The NYT provides anything but. Don't get me started about their softball treatment (read: free pass) of The Messiah and their trashing of their previous "poster boy," John McCain. They got BOTH their candidates on the ballot this time around. It's painfully clear which they chose.

The conservative torch and pitchfork crowd still seems to be alive and well after all. They just all scurried out of sight for a while as the sun king ascended to the throne last Tuesday. Thank God we at least have FOX to watch ( no readin' required there), AND it's fair and balanced. Heck it says so right on the label ! And shame on the NYT for not supporting that nice Palin lady. They should have just reported her views and comments and let her own words do the talking. I mean, who cares what anyone is saying about her, that's not really news, is it? Down they may go, but I have to wonder if it's not just one more sympton of our national attention deficit syndrome. Even the welathy have a hard time sounding intelligent these days...

I remember trying to pitch the NYT on gambling and poker stories over the past 15 years. I pitched them a dozen times with topics that would of interest to millions of readers. To illustrate my points, far more people are interested in the World Series of Poker or betting on the Super Bowl than some off-Broadway theatre production (I love musicals and the theatre,, I just don;t think they should get 80 times the coverage). The problem is, the NYT lost is connection to what normal people, and even many common welathy peiople do and are interested in. We are playing poker. We are not attending some obscure sculpter's showing. The NYT ruly lost it sonnection as a source of relevance and it's sad to see it decline. But this is to be expected when articles are written for the Park Avenue crowd and not the milliions of readers that might otherwise be interested in NYT editorial.

Good riddance NYT. All you had to do was be somewhere around 30% conservative and 70% liberal and most of us could have accepted what you wrote, but you had to go 1% conservative and 99% liberal. I guess the liberals did not support you and I do not blame the conservatives from stopping to read your once fine newspaper as it turned into a trash heap.

The NYT has become a rag of the far Left wing of the political system. Even when proven wrong on various stories the cling to their leftist ideologies. In sumation, their readership is dwindling which does not translate into selling papers.

Dissent is necessary, however, thses comments are appalling. What part of critical analysis that only the New York Times and very few other newspapers provide do you despise? Do you not like to read Pulitzer Prize winning authors--to comprehend their compelling arguments? What part of a free press provokes such disdain? Anyone who is anyone reads the New York Times. Intelligence. Liberal or conservative. As long as freedom exists, information will flow whether that information agrees with our world view or not.. Wish or Pray the NYT survives.

While dissent may be necessary, it is not the job of journalists to shape opinion through slanted stories, especially during elections, to favor their own annointed choice. That is for the op-ed pages. When an entire "RAG" becomes an op-ed publication bent on shaping opinion to reflect their own "opinions", that is elitism and journalistic fraud. What ever happened to "reporting the news" and letting Americans make up their own minds without prompting or guidance down a certain path. As far as the times is concerned, not enough people believe as they do so why not do as television has done over the same past 3 decades or so. Shape opinion instead of report on it. SHAME ON ALL OF 'EM. The Times could die tomorrow and the world, most certainly the U.S. would be much better off without their brand of yellow journalism.

I used to love the new york time. they have very very seriously dropped the ball and in my opinion are a good sourse for feature news, but stepping up to their responsibility to address the critical issues of the day in an investigative manner???nope. Sad, silent enablers of Bush and corporate cronies. They have lost ANY cred capital they ever had.

I can`t recall the last time I bought a newspaper. Who would want old news anyways even if it was free?

    • Posted By: BobH2O @ 01/24/2009 10:25:40 AM

      Forget free, try accurate

I get the online version, plus I don't live in NY. Yes they are biased. However everyone else also seem to be biased, and their bias can be bought with dollars and cents. They are loyal to those that advertize. That is their business. That is how they really make money. I read very biased reports and go check them with many other sources to know the truth. I believe we the citizens and people can get to the truth ourselves without the need for intermediaries like newspapers. However I am sure NY Times will move to online fully if print becomes unviable. Print costs money. Online stuff is cheap to print. However the reporter and journalist and other company expenses will have to be met by the advertizers. They know that no one will pay to read a newspaper anymore.

We can only hope that the NYTs finally impales itself on the spear of it's own incompetence. It prints drivel that mainstream Americans just don't believe. They play to the left wing intelligentsia and their wacko friends in Hollywood who are so detached from average Americans that they believe we all hate George Bush, love Hugo Chavez and the Castro brothers, think that the US is more of a threat to the world than Islamic Jihadists, and on and on. I have no objection to a newspaper that prints views that don't correspond to mine. I just expect its writers to be objective and point out both sides of an issue. the NY Crimes long ago dropped all pretenses of being unbiased and fair. Good riddance to it.

Let us hope the NYT goes away, followed by Newsweek, NBC/GE, CNN, etc. Perhaps then there could be a rebirth of honest journalism crafted by quality writers instead of continuing attempts at National Socialist newsspeak.

The NY Times and GE, both have been mismanaged by the CEO of GE. GE owns the NY Times. Publishing a paper is partly a trust between the paper and the reader, the NY Times has lost this trust. By knowlingy publishing false information, publishing articles that lead the reader to believe false accounts, and by out right left wing bias, the NY Times is no longer to be trusted. I don't know if that trust can ever be regained. A quiet death to both GE and the NY Times would probably be best for the investors and certainly the public.

Beware this is the first of many! I stopped buying the Times because of their unfair Bias pro Democrat position. I am neither Democrat nor Republican. But I want fair accurate news reporting What the Times and many other news publications did to Palin and many others that they decided to desimate was bad. I have turned to the net and other unbias news media's. I have like many others contacted advertizers to bias publications andfinformed them that I will not support them or their products because of their finacial support to bias news media organizations. There is a web site that is dedicated to to supporting quality news coverage and taking down those that don't they boast over 4 million strong and growing fast. I was a sad day when the so called news organizations took it upon themselves to sway the public opion of a major election by intentional bias coverage N.Y. Times you won't be missed

That is the end result of forgetting honest journalism and promoting a political and personal agenda. People get turned off.

I wouldn't miss N.Y.T. at all. N.Y.T. does not represent journalism as it should be presented. Nothing that's printed within their pages is objective or truthful. N.Y.T. is nothing more than sensationalism and a manipulation of public opinion. I have no respect for the paper or the "journalist" that work there
