I have read the fourth page, and this is the most hilarious and entertaining interview that I have read on Newsweek. But one has to be circumspect, reading interviews like these. I did not know, three of the stars, so I tried looking up Wikipedia. There were many "Downey's", in Wikipedia, so my search was a failure. I am not in first name terms with the other actors, too, so my Wikipedia search on them was as fruitless. But, I must say again, this is the best piece that I have read in Newsweek.

This was a great interview. I can't wait till Oscar night! Been searching around for more articles like this...found a funny set of predictions here: http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/show/oscars/oscars_2009_picks_and_predicti.php

But I have to disagree with their pick of Anne Hathaway over Kate Winslet for Best Actress. Kate Winslet blew me away in The Reader, she definitely deserves the win.

Actually, I was pleased they had a performer (Sally Hawkins) who wasn't even nominated as part of the roundtable. And she seemed both refreshingly "non-Hollywood", and exuded a "just-happy-to-be-here" vibe. Like Amy Adams, I hope we see more of her!

As for all the folks here tut-tutting Anne Hathaway or Brad Pitt as "too shallow", well, check out "trash media" like TMZ or Extra if you want to REALLY see "shallow"...not to mention pointless, intrusive, and mean-spirited...

I would have liked to hear Frank Langella speak more on the difficulties involved in playing the same role in a movie that he played so many times on the stage. That would have been instructive and enlightening.

And I do hope Mickey Rourke takes Downey up on his offer to be in "Iron Man 2"!

I'm so excited to have Mickey Rourke back to enjoy, I think he is genius and he seems to be one of the coolest cats to have ever graced this wild world. I hope he has a happy heart. Also, the rest of the interviewees are quite an ensemble. Success at its finest.

The Newsweek Oscar roundtable discussion is always my favorite Newsweek article. Will someone please put Anne Hathaway, Robert Downey, Jr., and Brad Pitt in a movie together because they were hysterical!

MICKEY ROURKE IS A FINE ACTOR.

I THOUGHT HE WAS FANTASTIC IN " SIN CITY ".

I'm sorry, but "framing himself as an actor"?!?

  • Posted By: christyclub @ 01/28/2009 12:24:05 PM

Very appreciated. I have a young son who is framing himself as an actor. I will use the movies and plays mentioned in this interview here , after viewing cintent, as teaching tools. Like Mr. Langella said, we have such an opportunity for this generation of young actors with the internet , DVD's , and other devices to 'Tudor" and for them to learn for themselves how to work on their craft. Sorry Mr Pitt, The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons" is so deep that, at just turned 12, I'll wait a year to show him your work..

I enjoyed this discussion between the actors about their earlier acting roles. I remember the roles they spoke of and particularly Robert Downey, whom I always realized is a really gifted actor. I agree with Brad Pitt regarding Rourke's film with Kim Basinger. I had to watdh that film many times to get its full intent. It was mesmerizing.

I I am so pleased to have an oppiortunity to hear actors relate real feelings about their experiences as actors. In each actor I can remember their careers as they evolved and I have so much more respect for their work.

This was a great feature I liked the write up , but I absolutley Loved the video and hearing some of my favorite actors talk , very candidly, about movies . I hope this is a feature that's done every year at oscar time. (if it's not alredy)

he has more screen charisma then these nerds

I never got the hint that they were being anythting but humble. This is an interesting article. I enjoyed finding out what goes through their heads from time to time. It doesnt sound easy to be a star, money wise though what a great career and they really enjoy what they do! I think many of the haters posting here are just jealous boobs! Have some respect! I wish this was a video interview though. :-(

It is in video form. It's the feature video actually It is cut up into segments though so watch them all it's much better than the actual write up. Then again interviews really are better on video than on paper. ;-)

To read the quotes, because it really wasn't much of an article just regergitated quotes, you would miss A LOT of the meaning, honesty and truth behind the comments. Watch the videos and you can be much happier with what you read. I found it extremely entertaining and fun to watch, rather than read and be mislead by my own calloused opinion of people and misinterpretation of their words. Thanks for the fun Newsweek, some of your readers seem to need it.

I really liked this article. It was refreshing to hear actors talking about their craft. I really hate all the "entertainment" news that's really just gossip about the personal lives of celebrities. Why can't the media just let these people live their private lives and only report on their work? (This reporting would of course exclude so-called paparazzi photos and only include photos of actors while they are working or attending industry events.) I was pleasantly surprised to read this article that, mostly, follows the above rule. Thanks, Newsweek!

Not only do i not care about their personal lives, I also don't give a hoot about their professional lives! What a waste of time.

Your name says it all! God Bless you! But have some respect for others, why should anyone respect or care what you have to say with bad mouthing like that?
