What's this Spitting Image? Isn't the phrase Spit and Image...Spit 'n Image?

Nope. Although the phrase that you mentioned is a varient of the phrase. Both phrases have been used for over 100 years.

I maybe stand corrected on my Spitting Image question. My Random House Webster's Unabridged Dictionary allows "spit and image. Also, spitting image, spit 'n' image." Still seems to me like a mistake that made its way into the vernacular.

When you live in a small town, the TV and radio anchors are the biggest deal around. I remember the anchors for the local TV station in my hometown all had names that were alliterations: Stan Stovall, Tom Tasslemeyer, Dominica Davis. It was the coolest thing ever.
