Photos: A History of Multiple Births

We are no different then the parents who had their kids one at a time. The only thing that sets us apart is having them all at once. I am the mom of triplets plus one. And it is not easy, but I can say that the work would be the same if I had them one at a time. We are lucky to have the opportunity to have them in the first place. The same day i found out I was having NATURAL triplets was the day my co-worker found out that her 4th IVF treatment had failed. My heart was broken for her and filled with disbelief that some could have as many as many as 8 at once and some could not even get one.

For those of you who can not help it but say: "Are they triplets?", "You have your hands full", "Better you then me" and "How do you do it" HERE is the answer:

They are MY children whether they were born at the same time or not, they are MY children. They are special to me and my family. They are not for you to gaze, point, or wisper about. We are not different then the Dugars family with 18 kids. And all that matters is that we love them as individuals.

Intelligence says you can't generalize about people, and parents of twins, triplets, quads, quints, or any higher order multiple parents and their large families are no exception.

Just take a look at the largest annual national gathering of triplet and more families at The Triplet Connection Convention this July in California and you will see mostly multiples families with extremely devoted moms and dads and who travel from all over the U.S. to learn to be better parents through workshops while their kids play with other multiples the same age.

I know this first-hand because I'm a triplet mom (with 4 kids born within a year) who has been volunteering at this convention for the last 7 years. When the news cameras start rolling at convention next month, that is where the public should look for positive multiple role models in the media spotlight that are not there for financial gain but to learn how to be the best multiple parents we can be for all the children we???ve been blessed with.

Who paid for the infertilization?? How does a woman on welfare and food stamps pay for this?? How does she expects to care for 14 children, physically, mentally and financially?? What was the doctor and her thinking????

Multiple births will happen but to install 8 eggs to a mother who already had 6 child was irresponsible. I do not appreciate my tax dollars going towards supporting her and her chilsdren. There needs to be some oversight. I believe an infertile person should be able to use this means but not for this kind of crazieness.. Even if she could afford the total cost herself, you cannot nurture all of them properly.

Yet to see what is the real issue is here. Who paid for these treatments? Is there any oversight, as in the case of adoption, about who is having IVF? I know at least 2 women personally that have been told by the VERY expensive infertility MDs that they culd NEVER conceive so they emptied their savings accounts in the quest to have a baby. Fast forward a few years, the mother's bodies are recovering from all of the artificail hormones (who jnows what longer term effects that will have) one conceived and had a healthy baby, the other didn't. That is not the story, the story is that after BOTH were told they have no eggs, conceived and gave birth naturally. Isn't that interesting? Each famioy had poured tens of thousands of dollars each, of their own money, into this fiasco. The only ones that benefited are the MDs and facilities that provide these services. In these examples, they were both loving families and the children are loved and cared for very well. But if you were to ask those moms, they would both tell you that they feel explioted by MDs that upon hindsight interpreted test results with dollars signs in their eyes.

In what universe can anyone look at this octomom and not ask, "where did the money come from?" Not the funds to care for the children once they are here, the money that it took for them to get here? Why did no one ask about the need for IVF for a woman that already has 6 children that she can't take care of? Where are of these right winged moral majority groups that scream from the mountain tops about single moms? Where are they now? The true debate has nothing to do with Octomom's right to conceive. Many other loving two parent families can't conceive but yet can't get hte treatments because of the money. Where did this woman get funds, and why didn't anyone ask about the rights of these babies not to be forced into this livestyle of 14 children all VERY young, living with grandma and unemployed mom?

Not the basis for a discussion, really, simply examine the facts. The woman had in vitro fertilization in order to distribute the resulting infants to parents who desperately wanted to conceive but couldn't and were afraid to be put on the spot after the fertility scandal of 1995. The doctor who implanted the embryos and arranged with the anxious couples was not afraid though. Just go back to the Orange County Register articles on the whole affair and stop thinking about it!

The only ones that will be hurt by all of this is the 14 children....We all have to remember the children are not to blame. They didn't ask to be born espcially to someone who obviously has some issues of her own.

What I see here is MENTAL problems. Just look of her change physically Lips, and nose and look at those neils, to take care of children that I'm sure will be challenged. This woman has been using the system with the first 6 children, what is to be ecxpected with the other 8 who is going to foot the bill? We all are, I can't even my full social security because I have a retairment from another goverment agency is call (INDFALL) But this woman will get the help from all these services. I think that Dr. that did the implants should pay for these children not the goverment, because she thought she was going to get rich with the median and all the rags of news papers and magazines.

On my opinion mother of 2 that god give me. I think they all should be giving to people that really can care for the health of this kids, she should go to treatment to get her life back and more than anything she need her parents to be in the same page. she needs to figure out her own issues before trying to care for others. Social service needs to step in !
