The way to really boost the economy permanently:

    1) Reduce permanently 10% of the federal and state work force - those left need work harder like most workers still working are forced to do,

    2) Make all government employees INCLUDING senators, house of reps & the President /VP give up earning any more pension benefits (like most americans no longer have), INSTEAD give them a match of 50% on up 6% of their annual wage they contribute into a 403B plan - USE the TAX savings resulting from the dropping of new pension TO PROPERLY FUND SOCIAL SECURITY FOR THE TAXPES SINCE THATS 10 year from going BROKE

    3) Have the FEDERAL government stop paying 80% for federal employee families health premium - drop it to 50%,

    4) Increase the FEDERAL employee health insurance deductible to $1000 like most private employers now have,

    5) make all senators and house of representatives serve NO MORE than 2 term limits - ends the power of long term senators, etc to force senators, etc to approve EARMARKS on bills alreday released from committee

    6) Go to a flat tax Federal tax program so the IRS audits can stop (laying off 50% of that organizations tax payer supported staff)

    7) after 1st child's birth to a single mom STOP paying for single mom's child birth , offer free sterilization - more than 1/2 the baby's being born in the US now being paid for by the government (TAXPAYERS in other words) and don't give these single mom's, who are abusing the free childbirth /single mom welfare system by having child after child out of wedlock, money to support more than 1 child

    8) NO Social Security, Medicaid or Medicare benefits to ANYONE NOT A US CITIZEN even if their "citizen" child brings them into the US - as are all being done now for NON Citizens!

    9) Give the President Line Item Veto rights

    10) Give life in prison to ANY politician find guilty of any abuse of power or corruption while in office

    11) OUR prisons - lower the taxes to care for the Prisoners - no more coffee or juice, let them drink water at ALL MEALS, feed them oatmeal/toast for breakfast, peanut butter/jelly sandwiches with crackers for lunch and inexpensive stew (easy to make and serve requiring less kitchen labor) And for medicines make them pay the FULL COST of medicine - why reduce their costs out of taxpayers pockets ? I didn't unjustly put them in prison THEY BROKE the law - suffer the CONSEQUENCES

    STOP THE MADNESS

P.S. Anyone running on the above platform will WIN any FUTURE elections, so Go for IT you TRUE AMERICANS!

It really makes me sick to think that my taxes are going to company,s that are full of greed . That is why there company is in trouble. We should not bail any of these company,s out they all need to file bankrupcy or just shut down since they have no clue on how to run there company. I ran my own company for years and no body would bail me out it is not the tax payers duty to bail them out let them all go under. Michael

Nice try, but you make no mention of the fact that currently America is a net wealth HOLDER. That advantage is only decreasing through trade. No matter how much we export, we always import more. We would be better off if we stopped trade completely and made EVERYTHING at home, simply recirculating our wealth amongst ourselves. As it is, over time we can't help but to become a poor country, because given that we have so much now, it is very expensive to live here. We simply cannot survive on the same $1000 a year the average person in China survives on. Furthermore, when US companies do make money on imports, only the shareholders profit. Most of their workers are often in India or elsewhere in the world. Only their corporate headquarters may be in the US. And the wealth of those corporations is not be redistributed (through taxes) to enrich all the citizens of the nation. Instead these corporations use endless loopholes to avoid paying any taxes. So the American worker can only lose and never gain through free trade.

The dissapearence of the American capitalists, Mom and Dad on payday hooking up the boat to go away for the weekend
in thier new truck that was purchased with the credit the acquired while working the protected jobs they did have before President Clinton came to the rescue of a neighboring country, Is whats wrong. Mexico needed to stabilize a spiraling economy, And Bill Clintons administration wanted to help some poor people who needed help. Result was the North American Free Trade Agreement. Our Congress followed this aggreement with others that were loaded with incentives to save the world by curbing global warming. You want to get mad at people for trying to save the world!
Thats an option I guess but a better option would be to correct whats wrong. Fearing to protect trade is whats wrong.
Potective tariffs when used correctly increase wages of the country that uses them so that , Dad can buy the toys
and mom can through the parties. The whole world is watching America for an answer to thier own crises.
The answer is easy for labor and hard for manufacturers. Pay people into middle class and every paycheck becomes a stimulus package. Used to buy goods that create revenue around the globe.
Do not squeeze the laborer for he is your bread and buttur.
now every item created for sale should have a portion set aside for pollution control that can be adjusted to how much potroleum products are in the products and how much is used to distribute. Add this to a protective tarrif and also in country and now you have incentives to curb potroleum use and new jobs can be created for pollution control to address the global warming threat. We will pay a whole lot more for fuel than ever before but we will be gverning the supply and demand of fuel like never before and saving every economy the joins in this plan.
Your price for this information will be you have to become a capatalist yourself and go spend your money too! Yours truly Looney Tunes

Since when does USA need imports of food from any country? Why should we be importing clothing, cheap throwaway electronics and other cheap junk? The poor do not need contaminated food and products from China. NO THANK YOU.Chinese and other people payed low wages do not buy the items that they make.If they can not afford to buy many items even made in their own country, how are they going to help the World Economy? They Will Not. Workers that do not buy much do not contribute to the real value of money.US Investors put money into China for Cheap Labor and larger profits but who can they sell their products to when they stripped USA Jobs to hire Cheap Labor that can't afford anything? The Rich Greedy People made this problem with the imbalance of money spread out among common people to buy goods diminished and rich CEO's horded more money. If you The NEWS people can not see that the artificially Low Yuan has hurt the world economy and stopped chinese workers from buying more products, you are delirious.IF countries do not want to play fair in trade, why should we treat them equally or better than other countries that do not keep their money artificially low just so people invest more into their country for slave labor and low or no environmental regulations. China Exports Toxic Air also, not just cheap contaminated goods.

When some-one gets a hemorhoid; it is easy to curse at the quality of the hemorhoid ointmrent. The oinment is not the problem; the hemorhoid is the real problem.
The real issue is how we can continue to compete when our labour cost is just simply too high compared with the developing world?

Is it possible Mr. Garten could lose his job to a journalist from a low wage country? How many good paying job offers are out in the free trade world for him? I hope they are plentiful, because with the internet displacing newspapers and magazines he may not have anywhere to work. Woops, maybe he will espouse ???dangerous protectionism??? for his job. NO that could not happen. That???s only for the people now out of a job, and he is still employed.

JFK put it best, not that it is not known to every first year economics student.

From the NY Times Published: September 18, 1984 : Rationale for Kennedy's Tax Cut

In a speech before the Economic Club of New York on Dec. 14, 1962, President Kennedy said:

''Our true choice is not between tax reduction, on the one hand, and the avoidance of large Federal deficits on the other. It is increasingly clear that, no matter what party is in power, so long as our national security needs keep rising, an economy hampered by restrictive tax rates will never produce enough revenue to balance the budget - just as it will never produce enough jobs or enough profits. In short, it is a paradoxical truth that tax rates are too high today and tax revenues are too low - and the soundest way to raise revenues in the long run is to cut rates now.''

If this is a globalized world with free trade, then why did US taxpayers have to bailout the banks?
The reason we bailed them out is because the Asians and Europeans debt holders of fannie, Freddie etc. demanded it. They encourage us to take protectionist measures when it benefits the international crowd, but if the US government were to protect US workers, it is bad, protectionist.

We need to move away from trade ideology and move toward trade pragmatism. The Asians and Europeans use trade pragmatism, while at the same time they try to tie us down with our own free trade ideology. No more!
