    The article is a fitting tribute to John Updike, a towering presence on the American literary scene for decades. While it is well-written, I wonder how many readers may have found it inaccessible, unnecessary in language, and a bit verbose.
    The article stands at odds with Updike's craftmanship of the mundane; what good is writing if the masses can't relate?

    I found his writing to be boring. If you want to read authors that did it better, try William's "Temple of Gold" and other of his books or J. D. Salinger. Both told their stories much better.
