At this age, its no longer a big SCENE gay having a lover, lesbian having a lover. ITs just like a man having a relationship with the opposite sex. An elected Mayor performs the responsibility and capable for , is also a human being only with a sexual preference. The Mayor sex preference did not affect in one way or another his performance. Aside, their actions were done in private and consented. He lied at first considering some are conservative. I think a corrupt elected official is more appreciated when uncovered by an investigative reporter.

It was interesting going to a party a few days after the Adams/Breedlove story broke, and participate in a "critical debate" about the story. At it's conclusion 90% of the group said that Adams should step down. We all supported Adams, and several worked on his campaign. We all agreed that any politician's sex life should be personal as long as it was legal. But Sam was the one who didn't keep it personal. Yes, he lied and can no longer be trusted, but we all agreed that his biggest sin was selecting Amy Ruiz to the sustainability post. In a city that proclaims itself as a Green City there are many over-qualified people who should have been selected for the post, rather than a reporter for a paper that few people take seriously, and who had never written an environmental story. Right behind that is viciously smearing a gay potential opponent for Mayor when he suggested that Sam Adams had an innappropriate relationship with Breedlove. Sam Adams has earnestly proclaimed that the future of the city of Portland is his number one priority. His actions say something different. This along with other details of the story make it clear that Sam's priority is Sam, and in November Portlanders voted overwhelmingly for change from politics as usual, and that is why Sam Adams must go.

O editor Sandy Rowe's snide comment about Jacuiss's "genre" is a failed attempt to discredit the work of a reporter for a weekly who caught the gold ring of journalism--the Pulitzer for Investigative Reporting. It doesn't get any better than that.
The Oregonian had ignored the rumor of Goldschmidt's sexual predation for years. Now that Jaquiss has caught the big-daily asleep at the wheel again, they are passing him off as a sex-scandal ambulance chaser?
It's nice that they do narrative journalism and stories exposing the little guys, but the fact is that they seem to give those with power immunity.
Isn't the journalists' mission to seek the truth and their mantra to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable?
Nigel Jaquiss is way more than a one-trick pony. He's absolutely a top-drawer journalist who is taking on those in power who abuse it.
Portlanders should be thrilled they have one paper that will do this.

Sam stated that he was mentoring Beau who was seventeen at the time.

Sam was grooming him for his self-satisfaction.

Sam kissed Beau twice (if not more) when he was seventeen and one of these occasions it took place in the City Hall Men???s Room.

Sam is a forty two year old man who had sex with Beau two weeks after he turned eighteen or did Sam perform the act while he was still seventeen?

Sam is a pervert and pedophile.

Sam used our city resources in this conspiracy to lie and cover up his relationship with Beau.

Sam conspired with Beau to lie for him.

Sam publicly slandered a fellow gay Portland businessman Robert Ball who wan intending for run for the Mayors position and ruin his standings in this city after Robert brought these TRUE allegations to the public in 2007.

Sam called in all his supporters from the cities gay community, TV Reporters, Newspaper Reporters, told these people Robert Ball was trying to smear him and all this stuff with Beau Breedlove were out right lies.

Sam has not apologized to Robert Ball and said that he does not deserve one.

Sam has put the City of Portland at risk to blackmail and has made this city look bad.

Sam is costing the city too much time and money dealing with his lies and his scandal.

Sam used city resources to hire reporter Amy Ruiz who was working on this scandal at the Mercury News. Amy has stated that she was not qualified for the position, she did not know how she landed the job and is being paid just over $55,000 a year which is over a third more money than she was being paid at the Mercury News. Amy's partner that was also working on the Sam Adams scandal left about the same time as Amy and got a great job working for the State of Oregon in Salem at double his pay.

Sam's director of communications Wade Nkrumah resigned because of Sam's lying.

Sam was honored by Portland???s Gay Paper ???Just Out??? for all his accomplishments as a city commissioner, then mayor, as gay leader and they have no asked for him to ???Resign??? because he openly lied to them in 2007 and also again in 2008 about these allegations.

Sam you are a black eye to the City of Portland and State of Oregon.

Sam you are not what Barack Obama is looking for in a pubic servant, leader and role model for the Democratic Party.

Because this mayor possible had sexual relations with a minor, he should be held accountable. Is he a pervert for making out with a 17 year old? What about the 31 states in the U.S. that have the age of consent at 16? If you have called him a pervert, you are an ignorant person, and have used this situation to vent whatever stupidity you were taught or happen to come up with yourself, even though I doubt you've thought for yourself, ever.

As for Callejero fascinating and well written responses: this is the usual conservatives response about double standards. There have been countless allegations, trials, AND prosecutions of U.S. politicians involved in all sorts of illegal activities, sexual or otherwise, gay or straight. Some have been found guillty, others have not. The media has swooped in to all of them because it's good headlines.

Callejero is showing his ignorance by following only those scandals that are gay, because he or she has a bias against gay people. Not one mention of all sorts of straight politicians (both democrats and republicans) who've given political/career/monetary favors to sexual partners. Please.
