Betting It All on the Farm

While Aalto was producing blond-wood furniture out of fir trees in Helsinki, Scott and Helen Nearing, the original back-to-the-landers, were homesteading in Vermont. Not surprisingly, their book "Living the Good Life: How to Live Sanely and Simply in a Troubled World" is being rediscovered by a new generation romanced by alternatives to city-bound life. Bull markets may come and go, it seems, but the farm remains eternal.
