Very helpful in understanding the hidden details of all the myths perpetuated by badly educated and uninformed writers of financial articles. Many of us read this stuff daily and become, literally "full of" bad information. Thanks to all the Newsweek authors and the mag itself for bringing some verity to the table. Keep up the good work.

I think that on top of fixing our economy we need to help countries struggling with bad economies and poverty. The Borgen Project (www.borgenproject.org) has a section on poverty and the economy that explains why it is so important to help these countries. It is something that Congress has been saying would be beneficial for years, so why is it so hard to attain this goal? There are 800 million people that go to sleep hungry every day, 300 million are children.
$30 billion: The annual shortfall to eliminate global hunger
$540 billion: The U.S. defense budget
$170 billion: The U.S. war budget
I think we would be able to help people suffering with poverty by not spending as much on the military. By helping countries suffering from chronic hunger, we are helping them become a more self-sufficient nation that will be able to trade food with us. The more we help people in less developed countries the more jobs will be opened for Americans.

I completely agree with Holly on many of the things written. The engine that drives the economy is the consumer, with out putting money in their hands to buy the products, the economy grinds to a halt. Media is creating fear throughout the economy, that seems to be the job they do best and the result is more companies layoff to protect their position leading to less money in hands of consumers. Less spending and the tailspin gets worse. I believe the media has done more damage then the bankers making bad loans, "home buyers" taking loans they should have known they could not afford. And the government puts money back in the hands of bankers? In times of belt tightening, the last thing I want to do is take out another loan. I want a job that pays a living wage, that enhances the quality of life I want. We are working as hard as we can to become a third world nation labor camp. Why don't we stop trying to become India, indonesia, Maylasia, Phillipines, Mexico...? I don't want to be just like them.

Barrett Sheridan must be of the same breed as the pundents that were telling us to get used to the $4.00 gallon of gas because it ain't going south ever again. Wrong then and, Mr. Sheridan, you are wrong now!
