The Bare Market photos are pure genius and remind me of the great photographer William Christenberry views on life South of the Mason-Dixie Line from way back when. These current Bare Market photos, at least of the US, speak for themselves.... I'm all too happy to see the media finally pick up on the tattered world I live in - a world of forgotten cracked up parking lots in front of empty strip malls to nowhere... The shanty towns from the Depression era that have cropped up everywhere, though just out of sight, are there - if you choose to look for and see them. Like the old song said - we paved over paradise - (decades ago) - to put up a parking lot - even though we all knew our greedy way of life was unsustainable: Time has exposed the lies we told ourselves to justify our selfish consumerism.
Muhammad Yunus' book BANKER TO THE POOR just might offer the solutions we need to start with to get ourselves out of this collective Depression era styled mess that we have made for ourselves since Reaganism, years ago, ignited this mess.
I can not believe what I read sometimes, the picture of the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas in January it says no one is at the pool. Funny how the temperatures ranges between 34f low - 58f high in Januaryand no one is at the pool. Why not write an article about the new city center opening up and potentially 16k new hires. Or the new hotel M which I believed hired around 2k new employees. Oh well, I guess the gloom and doom is all we are going to get. I think some of this problem, not a large piece, can be blamed on the media terrifying the public not to spend a dollar. Isn't the earth coming to and end soon...

Dear Colleena T,
Not everything that we read are sad. Your letter tell me that everything will be OK. Thank you. The media have to write something that will "sell". Good news does not sell. If they can not sell the "news", their company will close and the writer will be out of work. Read the news then recycle the paper.

Colleena, I believe that the earth may be ending soon. The way the president keeps talking down America you would think we were the most pitiful nation on earth, not the most prosperous. The media are just echoing what Obama says so when there is the slightest bit of good news, Obama will get the credit. We must be content to share the misery equally, right?
