A New Mission for the NAACP

B.E.T, Miss Black America, FUBU, United Negro College Fund. just to name a few of the racist things that are only slowing down the foward movement of the country... If any of these things were to help out Caucasions then they would be racist. Stop seperating America into groups instead try to bring the seperated groups together. If the NAACP wants to stay around then that is what they need to work on.......

By making a national noise over the chimp cartoon the NAACP has every kid over the age of 10 looking at blacks to see which ones look like chimps! The NAACP took the only action that would increase racism! and, sad to say, the action reinforced and magnified the stereotype. Black America needs to list to Bill Cosby. He seems like the only voice that has common sense and black accountability.

Yep they can go away anytime and then maybe some real discussion can take place so the AG won't call us all cowards anymore.

I really hope the NAACP can focus on keeping the black family together. The destructiveness of our welfare system discourages family. This leads to young black men identifying with gangs and not family. The Gangs lead to prison. in my opinion a strong, loving, moral family unit is the fastest way to prosperity

Judging from the vile comments I read during the election season that were posted on this so called "educated liberal" website about Barack and Michelle Obama and blacks in general, I'd say there is plenty of work for the NAACP.

I have a problem with claims that if more people of a certain racial background are arrested, it must all be due to racial profiling. Or, if high math scores are not evenly earned by people of all ethnic backgrounds, the tests must be poorly conceived. We should look deeper than that and consider other factors. I think we should be inclined to give some credibility to the statistical data and try to solve core problems that may cause members of certain groups to commit more crimes or do poorly on math tests.

I don't think a group that advocates denying data and calling all sources of statistics racist can achieve anything. A helpful group must first and foremost promote solutions to problems rather than deny they exist.

I'm glad to hear about the NAACP focus on black incarceration rates. Fixing that would go a long way towards helping race relations and the advancement of the black community as a whole. To that end, the focus should be on schools, since well-educated people are less likely to end up in prison.

I was horrified by the fact that the newspaper and the cartoonist had to apologize. FOR WHAT. Last time I looked freedom of the press still on the books.
All one has to do is look back at how so many other people were drawn, it was nothing compared to the insults that were drawn at their expense. Would it have been OK if the chimp had been made white, red, yellow?
If anyone at this organization is so blind that they couldn't see what the real meaning was that was their problem. These people are long over due to get a life outside of their little stereotype box.

The NAACP is worried about politically incorrect cartoons when the role model for many black teens are 'Gangsta' rappers. Is there something wrong with this picture?

Yes, the NAACP as it stands is out of a job. We have an American of African descent who is now President. While racism isn't completely dead it is no longer the impediment it once was. Jesse, Al, etc. the problem is in the Back community not with white America so please stop blaming us.

Since the early days the NAACP has almost become a non player associated with meaningful issues that impact human rights for anybody. With the continued infusion of people of color in America can we be sure that European Americans are still the majority population in America. There are many people in the United States that feel race relations in this country has been solved just because the current President is mixed with African American heritage. Boy, does America need race education like right now. We must not for get the history of race in American this will help us with the race problem this country still has.

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) or Just Black people? I am a Latino/Hispanica/Spanish or whatever they call us here (even though we are white, black, yellow, red, brown, etc) and would like to participate in this historic organization that has done so much for minorities. But now I only feel that this organization is only advocating for African-American interests. I believe that for this organization to survive and grow, it needs to evolve by iincluding people of other skin colors. I understand the initial objective, but now things are a little different. Remember divide and conquer? Now you need to unite and conquer. Unite all the people of color and minorities will become a real majority. Otherwise we will continue to be minorities forever. My 2 cents.

I am African American. The time for 'black leaders" has came and gone. They are no more. No one pays any attention to the likes of Rev Sharpton anymore. The only ones who need these 'old school' leaders seems to be the media.
