A New Mission for the NAACP

I am white. And I do believe the NAACP should play a role in the future of this country. But I believe it should become the NAAAP. The AAP meaning "Advancement of All People".

Now is the time for the NAACP to look deep into the urban black community and focus it's efforts on reviving hope for those who are disenfranchised; tech the lifting by one's own bootstraps. Too many in the urban cores turn to less productive lifestyles that only endanger the well being and survivability of the black urban community.

There is a simple reason for the different views of these organizations. It???s forced assimilation. The other groups you spoke of have integrated into American society, bringing with them their culture and a commitment to ethnic unity. Black society on the other hand has chosen to assimilate into American culture, forgoing unity and culture for selfish gains. As a result of our actions those institutions that have historically symbolized black culture have been abandoned and considered unnecessary. We watch as HBCU???s begin to fail due to a lack of support and funding. We discuss the viability of the NAACP as though it is a social club. We see many Blacks turning their backs on the leaders that have taken them to this point while we experience a new breed of black voice that has turned to blame those less fortunate instead of helping them. Blacks have moved from a point of unity to a mantra of ???every man for himself.???

Whites are not the reason we have discussions like this, we have them because Blacks allow them and participate in them.

Thanks Change Agent for an excellent point. No one is whining against similar organizations for Jews, Asians, etc. Makes you wonder doesn't it?

If what the NAACP is looking for is equality, then it is time to quit being Afro-Americans, Native Americans, Asian Americans and just be Americans. For too long we have had to listen about the "problem" of race. How about everyone be accountable for their actions, take responsibility for the position in which we find ourselves and work toward creating jobs, education and neighbors that lift each other up rather than pointing fingers and blaming "the man", "the system" or whatever other thing or being that takes the blame for our personal shortcomings?

I think the NAACP should focus on economic progress for Blacks and stop trying to save everyone else and work on saving ourselves. For to lonf we have focused on getting jobs instead of creating them. We need to take back control of the business which exist in our neighborhoods and stop our dollars and jobs from being exported everynight to the suburbs. Economic freedom will create a the political and social freedom we have searched for for so long.

The NAACP is a joke, remember when California Education Secretary Richard Riordan told a girl that her unusual name meant "dirty little girl" and the NAACP immediatly called for him to be fired because he was clearly a racist? Then when found out that the girl was white they simply said "Oh, we determined that race was not an issue here so we're no longer concenered about it.". Isn't calling for someone to lose their lifes work because you think they are racist with absolutely no proof whatsoever in itself racist?

Did you ever hear a peep from the NAACP when Jesse Jackson said he wanted to "cut that n_ggers nuts off" when refering to Barack Obama? If barack was white would Jesse have ever said that? no because Jesse hates any black person getting more attention than him. The NAACP does not consider it racist simply Jesse is not white; period. Could you imagine their reaction if John McCain had said those same words? They would be trying to ruin his life.

To top off their pathetic causes that they "address" just this week they called for the firing of the cartoonist who drew the "stimulu chimp" cartoon in the NY Post. This is analogous to Iranians wanting to behead the person who drew the Mohomud bomb turban cartoon last year. Just like in Iran the NAACP does not care about reality the look for opportunities to inflame and gain publicity and it is pathetic. Some cartoonist should loose his ability to make a living because he drew a cartoon clearly illustrating two current events? the NAACP is a joke and is itself prejudice. There is no realistic reason for the existance of such an organization in this country.

The NAACP really blew it this week by elevating a silly cartoon to the national level. Every non-black kid over 10 now looks at blacks to see which ones look like apes. Why did the NAACP do such a dumb thing? Are they really that dumb? Their elevation of a cartoon to racism did more to foster more racism than any other event in the last 10 years.
