Everyone wanted a piece of the great bong brouhaha. That's the American way.

Medical Marijuana is a viable....and MUCH safer option. For one, medical marijuana is REGULATED and it is ORGANICALLY GROWN. People that buy street marijuana are risking their lives because of the nature of the illegal drug game and the street marijuana is likely to be poisoned with God knows what kinds of pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic ferilizers....and these could be illegal/banned substances. Of course, like ALL prescription medications, there is always the risk of people choosing to abuse/overuse any drug. People in the United States abuse tobacco and alcohol products in epidemic proportions, yet somehow it seems to be a non-issue? If marijuana is regulated and properly prescribed to patients in safe amounts, and the patients follow the doctor's safe dosage, then it is a viable prescription. Smoking marijuana is the worst way to take prescribed doses...Caplet form or added to foods would be a safer option....smoking anything can still cause emphysema.
What is truly laughable, is that there was a taxpayer funded raid to come up with 7 grams of pot between two houses. A quarter of an ounce. Bravo! Thanks for keeping us safe from those bong wielding frat boys, Lott! Brilliant!
What I find laughable, is altogether about 7 grams was found in these "raids". Surely the best use of taxpayer money to date. Legaliz it already. Geesh!
I vote ToTheRight enforcer of all archaic and asanine laws currently in effect in the US. So if a dog sleeps in a bathtub in New York, a man in Omaha reveals a shaved chest, or if someone in Kentucky tries to "dye a duck blue and then sell it unless [they have] at least six more for sale at the same time" (I am not kidding), ToTheRight will prostelytize the miscreant into submission. I, for one, feel much safer.
I couldn't have said that better myself
To the right...so what if alcohol is legal; does that give people the right to drink themselves into a violent or careless and irresponsible stupor? Does that give "legal" booze drinkers the right to kill innocent lives driving? Does this give legal boozers a God-given right to beat their significant others to "keep 'em in line"? I have yet to see a marijuana smoker become violent...personally, I do not smoke or drink, but that is my personal choice. Legal doesn't mean jack to me if it will cause harm to me or others. Yes, marijuana has damaging health risks, so do alcohol and cigarettes or other forms of "legal" tobacco. People should be free to decide for themselves how they want to treat their health...no one should mandate it for them.
who says there was marijuana in that pipe? could have been tobacco? i mean O.J. WAS INNOCENT RIGHT?
To The Right...because something is legal does not make it right to do. That is the point.
So Sheriff Lott sends in an expensively trained (and seemingly jacked up) SWAT team to rid the Republic of 6 grams of the Devil's Weed. Were I a tax paying South Carolinian, I would be mighty happy that my money is spent thus. Good show, Sheriff. You wouldn't last long in Maine and hopefully not much longer in SC. I wonder if the cops unwound with a beer after their hard days work?

The only negative side of smoking pot is getting caught!!! This whole thing is stupid. LEGALIZE IT! There is a million worse things a person could do, drinking would be one.
Automobiles are designed to run most efficiently at speeds between 70 and 75 MPH,
In the U.K. main motorways have a speed limit of 75, accidents on the motorway there are no more common than they are here. Repeal speed limits? What do I care, I ride a bicycle.
At risk for smoking pot? me? naw, I live in the greatest state in the nation.
a couple of points from the peanut gallery...
1-we cannot legislate morality, Sounds cliche right? but take a look around. Example: when a state is strapped for cash they tend to lower speed limits, it's known that most drivers will not slow down and that's what lawmakers count on; the boost to revenue from increased speeding tickets, court costs ect..
2-Marijuana is classed as a hallucinogen, psychotropic.
3- The holestead act (I think that's right- request additional verification) was largely driven by organized crime since it boosted the profit margin of alcohol. It criminalized a whole class of people overnight and didn't actually change the overall incidence of alcohol use or abuse and it strengthened the organized crime families which put the profits into "legit" businesses and also bought the ears of govt. officials. I would recommend anyone interested read Aldous Huxley's "Heaven and Hell" for a sober (no pun intended) and intellectual study of the use of drugs and alcohol in society.
4- Referring to the 30's/40's case of two women who used pot as an excuse for violent behavior...if the law were applied consistently Twinkies would also be illegal.
P.S. $40 for a 1/4 OZ? WTF!! Either you are buying schwag or I need the number of your hook-up!....c'mon be a pal.
Ah, yes, I can still remember the good old days when our olympic contenders would all come home with 10 maybe 20 gold medals apiece. You know why? Because they were not addicted to marijuana, that's why!
Michael, put your bong down and get yourself tuned up for 2012. Make the rest of us fat, lazy, stupid etc. potheads proud to be Americans once again!

#1- no one in the world has ever come home with 10-20 medals.
#2-phelps won more medals in the last olympis than most people could have in 2 life times, olympic athelets or not.
#3-marijuana is not, I REPEAT N-O-T addictive. there is not evidence anywhere scientifically or otherwise that says that is a fact.
#4- not every "pot head" is fat, lazy, and stupid.... im a "pot head", and i work 2 jobs, attended and graduated highschool AND college, play in several musci groups, and i have started my own business... and guess what, phelps is by your definition a "pot head", and hes a wolrdwide sports star, attending college, and regardless if he smokes weed, he is still a role model. although i will never understand why parents are concerned about a guy that swims in a speedo for a living being they're kids primary role model of an upstanding US citizen... what happened to idolizing teachers, thinkers, and philosophers rather than over paid, over sensationalized sports stars....
and finally #5- stop stereotyping...
Mellow out nimo, I'm on your side. My comment was meant to be sarcastic. I was hoping that the haters out there might read it and recognize the silliness of their views. It was not meant to reaffirm them. Some of the smartest, kindest, most moral and productive people I have ever known or married have loved to get high now and then. Mostly because they are the kind of people who love life and all the experiences it has to offer. Thanks for reading and replying to my comment, looks like I need to do a little work on my sense of irony.
Peace out.
This article fails to mention that many students can loose access to financial aid if they are caught, which is much worse than a slap on the wrist and can drastically change the course of someone's life if they can't afford tuition and are forced to drop out. All for a harmless activity that is synonymous with the college experience. Imagine if that happened to a younger Phelps, or even Barak Obama? Many people chuckle the Phelps story off as an overreaction to a young adult engaging in normal young adult behavior but ignore the fact that America's drug laws ruin lives and are a huge financial drain on this country. The past three presidents and a super athlete like Phelps are all admitted smokers, what else do we need to prove that pot doesn't warrant the laws against it and the millions spent enforcing and jailing the mainly non-violent users who are now draining instead of contributing to the economy.
Boycott Kellogg....No compassion...no sale!!
Boycott Kellogg. No compassion...no sale!!!
Bill Clinton admitted to smoking pot, even if he tried to say he "didn't inhale" Barack Obama admits to trying cocaine. Where's the police at their door?
Phelps is a product of, not a cause for, the society in which he is living. The fact of the matter is Phelps is just a normal guy. The fact of the matter is college kids have parties and sometimes drink too much and sometimes smoke pot; just stating a fact. But if seeing college-aged kids act normally - despite their celebrity - is upsetting then speak directly to your own children, don't take it out on Phelps. The poor guy should be left alone.
The only explanation for the argument of him ruining an 'image' is that people don't like to be confronted. An image in front of your face gets a hysterical response. But the same people who had an inflammatory reaction will not spend their Saturday nights vigilante-style searching for the pot smokers at local college parties. The real battle then is not the act but having it thrown in your face. The stereotypical image of a college kid smoking pot at a party, and acting in the majority, is fine in American Pie and National Lampoon movies. There it's okay - it's fiction. But here in this photo, it is real and scary and no longer a joke. So the remedy is to patch a crack in the thin veneer that holds these lies and truth together. Does truth exist only when it's right in front of you?
The ???appropriate??? response has been to pick this as a battle. (Lucky this guy had high visibility.)
Furthermore, if I had just won 8 gold Olympic medals for my country, I would want to relax a little, too.
It's only legal for Willie Nelson to smoke. He's been busted many times and never spent a moment in jail. Check out his recent stop in Louisiana. He was pulled over with a pound and a half of high grade marijuana and 3 ounces of narcotic mushrooms. Never went to jail. Paid a $1,500 dollar fine and that was it. They probably gave the marijuana back to him. Anyone else would have been charged with a felony and probably a Federal case, due to him taking it from Texas into Louisiana. It should be legal for everyone, not just Willie!!
