The biggest morons of them all are people who spout off like you.
The long-awaited 'Watchmen' movie takes loyalty to new limits. And that's exactly what's wrong with it.
The biggest morons of them all are people who spout off like you.
Wow... it took you a whole HOUR to come up with that witty remark? Autism: It's in your genetics! *coming to a homo-sapien near you!*
You know, when you back down on your opinions it seems like you have vision issues of your own. There's nothing wrong with unapologetically loving a movie, even one as flawed as The Phantom Menace. Using that experience as a prism through you view Watchmen, it's like you're so afraid of having your own opinion that you're going with the concentual backlash. Admit that since everyone had their claws out for this flick you were intimidated out of enjoying the experience of watching it.
This article is very thoroughly explain. The author clearly has appreciation for good story telling. There are so many good books and movies that have set the bar. Anything that do not meet those standards give people in sense of imitation or inadequacy on the part of the writer, producer, and director. You are either a person who is entertained or looking for the next master piece like Batman, Godfather, or Lord of the Rings. I am personally looking forward to the next master piece.
I didnt think lord of the rings was a great film adaption. It was close, but jackson is a little campy.
the most vibrantly vicious ,vivaciousloy vulgar and ostentatiously vile inadvertent comic book movie ever made .if it is at all possiblev to audio-visually torture someone to the extremes of their common sense and the limits of their endurance then this has the privelege of just about winning that pageant with as many methods devised in juvenile genius as possible to maime ,murder ,pillage and carnage every human emotion both physically and analytically .
human life in its mundane frustration might not be the exciting bauble for some disturbed pseudo intellectuals who purport to be violent enough to appease ther tantalising boredom but to involve weekend cineastes in their inferna criminal plans and nefarious embargo on both moraluity and immorality is neither amusing nor funny as all it leaves in remains is a deadly boring void ,
frank synders i hope you are reduced to cinders in the final nuclear holocaust and i hope all the multiple cemetry and burials from your dismal epic haunt you fro eons for making a morbidly vulgar display of the american dreaM .
I AM GLAD I LIVE IN EUROPE AND NOT IN USA AND THIS MOVIE IS a CLASSIC EVIDENCE of why i celebrate that fact as at least i am not responsible for a society in anyway that can create a distorted cirsus as deary as this death dream .
SLIMY ,VICIOUS PULP DRESSED AS SILVER SURFERS WITH A SICK EROTIC SCHIZOID BEHAVIOUR WHICH IS NIHILISTIC AND VOID TO THE POINT OF BEING NAUSEOUUS .
I have never heard sound of silence and hallelujah in this light or even imagined they will be used as spoofs for a ludicrous self indulgent science fiction inthe worst art forms possible .
the spectacle of fireworks drubbed as vilonce with bllod showers and ctunchuin bones with extra terrestrial aliens who look humanoid and humanoids who look aliens is a cycle of some pseudo intellecrial prosaic sixties cerebrum influenced remarkably by the exotic drugs available in the charming era when jfk was shot by oswald and nixon wanted a nuclear war with ussr .
i wish it had transpired as i today would mnot be sufferring from a splitting headache with a hysterical wife who is going to bring this preposterous and viciousl VULGAR display of visual wastage for at the whole of 2009 and blame me for the vile bilious sureptitious and sacrilegious science fiction which pretended to be a pseudo intellectual psychological treatise about viagra and kama sutra in space .
that leaves the story and script to be discussed in the behavioural aspects of crime and law and morality and order but that was hijacked by the terrorists and the superheroes failed to retrieve any thing other then seminally atrocious prose and croaky hoares narrative of monologues written by some deeply disturbed incarcerated heavily medicated moron .

I'd like to point out that in your critique of a movie that is visually "torture" you have only 9 sentences. I don't dare say complete sentences, because I do not know if you grasp the meaning of such a thing; but you do have 9 periods. That's impressive.
had the thesaurus close by when you wrote this, reminds me of the show "In Living Color"
Silly--I've heard this all before to those who hate the "king of the hill." America is still the leader of the world and some people just can't deal with a free society that doesn't accept the deconstructionist, pseudo-existential belief that human existence is more than just food and shelter. Human life is complicated, so embrace it for what it is--complicated. Understanding this fact will make you truly free.
Nice Thesauraus. Next time don't try so hard.
You have confused your hatred of America with the commentary of the review of this movie. I suggest you stick with movies we don't make and then you do not have to worry about it. We will not miss you! by Filmmakers USA
Yes.. the movie was bad.. very disappointing.. yes.. the US is on a spiral downward drop which is emplified in the movies, the music, the violence in the homes and on our streets to which most of the 'government' turns a blind eye to.. perhaps if we weren't so pre-occupied helping other countries with their problems we might be able to focus on ours.. perhaps if we stopped spending our tax payers money to re-build other countries just to have them blown up again by the terrorists perhaps if we'd stop wasting our energies on 3rd world contries that don't give a rats ass we might be able to take care of our own in-house problems.. but remember.. Europe doesn't have a clean record either and the US is a much younger country than Europe. Perhaps we can learn from your mistakes???
Is English your first language?
I highly doubt it.
That's the best review of "Watchmen" that I have read. You summed up my thoughts exactly.
I think it is about time for an update, a rewrite, a "based on" rather than this. How many times do we need to replay the same type of thing in our heads?
What I am tired of is all these books and comics being made into movies. There is no reason to take a great book and try to duplicate it. Especially a book that is built with such deep character development.
The movie was more 2006 than 1986, Jon was so striking in the book because he was so different, in the movie, the over done cg effects just allowed him to blend in. Besides his nudity, he wasn't striking at all.
I never felt liek the world was caving in around the characters like I did in the book. I never felt the great peril of nuclear war that was depicted in the book.
The actors of the characters other than Rorashect (spelling) were not that memberable.
The violence and special effects were not needed for this movie. Yes it might have looked nice, but just because it has a nice cover doesn't mean that the body of work is just as good. I think the wrong guy directed this movie.
When you finish the book, you say to yourself "holy F**K I cannot believe the way it ended" You think abou the characters and their lives, how the future might be changed.
With the movie you think about how cool everything looked. How the fight scenes were insane. No I'm sorry this isn't Mortal Kombat, these characters aren't supposed to be hacking and slashing through tons of people. In the book, when all those people died in the end, you were blown away because it was shocking. But in the movie you are desensitized to endless violence. Am I suppsoed to feel for Millions of people whom I have never met in the story save for 1 or 2 when I just saw dozens of people get worked and killed violently for no reason?
I am not so much hating on the movie as I am on the depiction of it. I don't think you can convey what The Watchmen is in a 2hr 40min movie. I just believe what the movie lacks and what it adds is far worse a product than the book that it so desperately tries to mimic.
Devon Gordon reminds me of the guy sitting next to me in the theatre who continued throughout the movie to point out out "oh my god, do you see his junk?" Most of the people in the audience weren't that juvenile...
I watched the watchmen ,(well doesn't that answer the question spray painted on everything in the movie) over all I enjoyed it for several reasons.First because I enjoy anything that can inspire kids to put down the electronic games and pick up a book , this is one of those stories that will do that !
Secondly the soundtrack ,or if you will the soundtracks, the original soundtrack was great and you felt the mood and nuances of the characters themselves.and with the other soundtrack taking you to the decade at that moment on the screen was genius.the 40's with Billie Holiday to the 60's with Bob Dylans anthem of Blowing in the Wind, to the 70's K.C. and the Sunshine Band,(only thing missing was the 80's band in the novel as Pale Horse.
Third the cast was well matched too the characters(Altho itis hard too think that the movie's true villian is also the Geico Gecko, then again maybe it's not such a stretch. )
I feel that Zack Snyder did a tremendous job given the material and the time constraints(o.k. there were a few things that I would have done differently, mostly keeping the original ending even though I can understand Snyder's reason for the change, but in honesty, if I had done it ,the movie would have been 4-5 hours because I would have done more of the back story that was present in the original 12 issue mini-series .I also understand that 2 of the backstories will be presented in individual supplements(now thats good marketing)
I would like to add this for some parents who think that Watchmen is just another comicbook movie NO IT"S NOT dont take your 8 or even 13 year old there too see this,
THis is for Mature (read that as older than 17) viewers enuff said on that one.
One last thing I would like too comment on and this isn't about the movie, but the source material.
Please stop calling this a graphic novel.this was originally presented in a monthly format of comic books. after a wonderful run and all the original's had been sold The industry will do a trade paperback if the comic's event is successful and put all the pieces into one book. These are usually
at specialty store's and not on that rotating red wire magazine rack next too Archie and Jughead. it was this format that was what made Watchmen one of TIME magazine's top 100 books to read.comic book are more than just pop culture, they are really what inspires kids to read and ,they also help immigrants learn too read and build on english language skills
I would love too see what Zack Snyder could do with a series of books into a movie triligy like anne rices's Mayfair Witches series ,(because let's face it after that travesty that was queen of the damned ,her vampires will need to be rehabbed )
I've never read the original "graphic novel" and know nothing of the story before seeing the film. That being said, I can say that Watchment the movie was without a doubt the best comic movie I have ever seen. The film is visually stunning, regardless of the director's status as a "visionary" or something less. The dialogue is witty, the characters are endearingly over-the-top (done intentionally), the actions sequences are phenomanal, and the political commentary is poigniant. I was literally on the edge of my seat for the duration of the almost three hour film. The commentary by this so called "critic" says less about the film and more about the pretentious ineptitude of film critics as a whole. This guy alludes the Godfather in his commentary, but probably would pan it had been made in 2009. Get over yourself and start enjoying good movies.
I had never read the comic. I don't know why adults are bothered by Dr. Manhattan or the sex scenes. For me it's a great story of how we lose our emotions, how all of us have a hero/dark side. how war after war we don't learn that we are all human beings co-existing in the same planet. Is it a little cheese YES it's a comic book story.
I honestly think that the critics in Hollywood are force fed stupidity so that they can come up with utter tripe such as this fellow has written. Watchmen is not a conventional story, never has been, never will be. If big blue "***" is too hard to stomach--please get over your homo tendency vibes and just allow your boyfriend to paint his blue for you. We're adults, remember? The movie is rated "R" for a reason. Somehow we have no problem seeing a severed horse's head full with blood and guts in a man's bed at the crack of dawn, or watching the brutal saddistic killing of human to another--but then, you, Mr. Newsweek Critic get all hoighty toighty on nudity? Go get saved by a born again Christian foundation--they love tragedies such as yourself. Watchmen tells a story, amazingly deep and not too hard to follow if one actually decides to use the 3 to 4 pounds of muscle and flesh matter that has grown inside of their skull most popularly known as a brain. Isn't Newsweek supposed to be for "smart" people? Why do I keep reading points of views from utter morons? There is indeed a problem with the system.
I saw the Watchmen with my son this weekend. He's 32 years old. I was expecting the X-Men, I got instead, Barberella....I had never read the comic, known to me now as a "Graphic" comic, and it was the "graphics" that I had a problem with. The sex scenes were like watching a low budget porno...and with Dr. Manhatten's "graphics" hanging out and dangling...I think there was more attention to Dr. Manhatten because of his penis than because of his power, and the threesome love scene, well...what more can I say. Although I believe the rating should be raised to a pre - X to keep people from blindly letting their kids go to the movie, thinking it's just another comic book movie, the violence, sex, and language...is defintely not what I would want my grandsons to watch...I enjoyed, just as I enjoyed Will Smith's superhero, a certain realism that everyone is not happy being responsible for the safety of the world...being immortal isn't all it's cranked up to be...and the basis for peace, being so afraid of a common enemy that those that are normally enemies, unite...well, that is a great thought, but like we saw in WW II, once the common enemy or threat is removed, everyone goes back to being paranoid of their allies...to the point they return to being enemies...Rating Watchmen...well for artistic expression, an A+; acting A; content A; general appeal C-....only because, as I said earlier this should have been advertised more as an ADULT drama, than a Comic Book movie...The general public I believe, like myself, stopped reading comics when we discovered sex, drugs and rock n roll....and then the comics were barely twenty five cents...and that was a special issue...poet1951

The job of someone bringing a book to film is NOT, as with Cuaron, to "bring their interpretation" to the screen; it's to bring the bloody book to life. Cuaron ruined the third HP and the franchise. Sadly, it would appear he and others are thusly empowered by faux-fans like yourself.
I'm willing to bet you prefer the first Dune film to the sci-fi miniseries, eh? Yeah, we got "weirding modules" interpreted right into the mix by Lynch. Just YUMMY, right? Black lacquer and rubber suits because that sort of thing looks nifty as hell despite not making a bit of sense in a desert setting. "Put the pick in, Pete, and turn it 'round, real neat."
Get off your self-aggrandizing horse and realize what it means to bring a book to the screen, including limitations with which one must deal and opportunities made available in our modern times to stick to a damned good tale. The point wasn't to make Snyder a visionary; if it was, he'd be doing a movie he WROTE and directed.
Yeesh -- don't go breed, okay? Pretty please?

I am, as you would say, an apostle of the original graphic novel, but I felt like Zack Snyder had spent 160 minutes slapping me around. It was traumatic, especially given that it was my birthday March 6. Every theme was forgotten and left off the screen, every character was a digitally enhanced caricature, every moment of acting was excruciating, every line of beautiful Nietzsche-ism, Morality, and Power was perverted to an extent that I felt sick. On the bright side though, this gratuitous action flick made me appreciate the comic a lot more. Simply put, the film is not at all loyal to the book; the book is epic and the film will hopefully be forgotten soon.
are you kidding?!?!? the blue penis made the movie!
I'm on the fence with this. I read the graphic novel and therefore had no problem with the following the movie. But my friend who hadn't read the novel got lost in the movie. I thought it was well done, and some credit should be given to Snyder for the subtle additions he made with the movie. For instance, at the end when Rorschach's blood takes the shape of an inkblot.
The move was watchable but the major vice i had was Dr. manhattan running around naked. The comic book might have had his goods hanging out but why do it in the movie! That was one blue penis too many for me
