Libs_Leave...don't even bother retorting to sliderbaby. He/she likes to pretend that you're uncultured because you don't agree; in reality, you and I have probably experienced more cultures than sliderbaby ever will. I've dined in a bedouin tent with sheiks, and walked through thousand-year-old palaces in Korea, just to name a couple.

At any rate, you shouldn't expect a "thank you" from his type. We don't do the job we do for the vast majority of Americans...because many Americans don't care about what happens to us (case in point is below). We do it because we love our country, and because if the country were only filled with overly-critical people who will NEVER step up to the plate, it would soon be gone. So, no thank-you needed or, for that matter, wanted.

On a final note, slider (on your racial equality comment), are you aware that the military desegregated long before Dr. King gave any speeches or made any marches? This is a rhetorical question, so you don't need to respond. Besides, as I am busy overseas (experiencing other cultures) with my job, I won't be back to this article/room.

hey, no thanks for the job you are doing. it is pointless and i am sorry that my tax dollars support it. a real patriot would see that your futile attempts over seas serve no purpose other than making the rich richer. you fight fire with fire oh brilliant militant. you are as wrong as those you oppose. I, along with many others that have been in the service are more than willing to fight for this country, but i will never fight to support greedy ambitions.

      • Posted By: sagebrushwy @ 03/01/2009 8:54:57 PM

you took an oath, then you say you wont' fight for certain reasons based on your opinion.......we don't want your type of service. Did you join for college money?

        • Posted By: sliderbaby @ 03/02/2009 2:38:14 PM

big difference between fighting for your country and fighting for the interests of a select few. fortunately i was out by the time this bs war started. I imagine you would support those who dissented during hitlers reign

          • Posted By: sagebrushwy @ 04/06/2009 5:39:29 AM

again, you are saying you won't fight for a select few....which is your opinion. You haven't proven it is about a select few, it's just your opinion. And what makes you think this is like hitlers time...another thing that is your opinion,. Don't take the oath if you are not mature enough to stand behind it.

      • Posted By: sagebrushwy @ 03/01/2009 8:59:07 PM

you take an oath, then say you won't fight for something that is really just your opinion. I don't know about anyone else, but II don't want your type of service,. Did you join for college money?..Sounds like it.

we dont care because we are not told. We only know what we are allowed to know. Did you even know about the law that the media was not allowed to show our fallen soldier arriving home in there coffins?

This claim of lack respect for our soldiers is getting tired. You can blame the lack of media coverage on the laws past by the very repukes who put you in Iraq to begin with.

does anyone remeber when they were going to "imbed" the media with our troops? Ha that lasted up to the point thye realized there were no WMD's
No don't start with what we know and don't know. America is glued to CNN, MSNBC and I hate to say it FOX news, every day and every where from the McDonalds to bars to the flat screens in our bath rooms, what we don't know is what was misinformed to us.
Think about that before you go accusing people of not respecting you, WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN THROUGH HAS BEEN KEPT SECRET. Why, perhaps that No WMD's meant the mission in Iraq was unjustified, and it was better to not remind America of that to often and also hope we might forget Osoma and why he attacked us in the first place, could it be leaving Saudi Arabia was Osoma's demand and invading Iraq gave in to those demands. Ask around and see how often that little fact has been mentioned!

      • Posted By: armyvet1981 @ 03/01/2009 10:06:28 PM

Saddam must have used up the nerve gas on the Kurds before our troops arrived. Were you not aware that he had nerve agents or are you intentionally lying to make your point?

I think reasons why this year's conference event drew an increase of 2,000; from 7,00- 9,000 some people, is because our newly elected president, Obama, made history for being the first African president. It's great having an increase of young people being educated in political events because they are the future regardless of background. Hopefully later on there will be a larger increase in conference attendee turnout than this.
As what person 4876 said, "The people who attend the CPAC's are being politically socialized. From this, I would expect to see slightly more conservative voting in the future, as the number of people attending these events increase." I would agree with what he said but soon problem such as "too many conservative?" and not enough liberals will go on the rise.

  • Posted By: person4876 @ 03/26/2009 6:53:46 PM

In think that these events (the CPAC's) are going to help the Republicans in approval and votes in the long run. Most young people nowadays politically identify themselves as independent from both of the major political parties. The republican party if trying to shape the ideologies of these young people to be more conservative, and I would say that it is being done. These young people, who are now able to vote, may make a difference in the next election, whether congressional or presidental. The people who attend the CPAC's are being politically socialized. From this, I would expect to see slightly more conservative voting in the future, as the number of people attending these events increase. This also goes for the democrats. Why not lecture the young people whose political ideologies are still developing, and open to influence, instead of the greatly conservative group of senior citizens? The way I see it is: whichever party manages to secure the young voters in our country will have many future benefits. The young people are going to stick around to vote for longer, so why not talk to them and win more votes? Who knows? If things keep going like this, with the republicans holding huge youth rallies, there might be another party realignment coming up. And trust me, if it happens, the republicans are never going to let the democrats forget that they (the republicans) won because of their attention to the youth,

Like person4876 said, I find it interesting that the CPAC are gearing their events towards a younger demographic because most peoples political beliefs are formed while they are young adults. if this trend continues over the years it will be interesting to see how the next election goes and how the parties continue to change.
However, I do wonder why it is taking these political parties so long to openly engage young people who are the future and will one day have to be the leaders . I would think that this would have started a lot earlier .

Barack Obama, by instigating class warfare against the top wage earners and job creators, is directly responsible for the disastrous collapse of the American economy. The dramatic, continuous, almost daily drop in the DOW, S&P, and NASDAQ levels directly demonstrate the business administrators professional resentment and tactical reaction against that naive democrat government assault.

Barack Obama has, on numerous occasions, attempted to vilify and demonize them as corrupt criminals who have stolen from the lowly ignorant masses who comprise his political base of support. Like a true snake oil salesman, he dupes the uneducated into feeling that they are hapless victims of an oppressive minority, and that unrestricted burgeoning government is their only hope. But the problem is that government never saves them - instead, it further enslaves them.

Through his obstinate determination to impose ridiculous increases in their tax rates, Barack Obama has provided a disincentive for the successful wage earners to generate income. He has naively crowed that now is not the time to earn a profit. Since most businesses were founded and exist to earn a profit, why should they bother to operate without that prime objective and opportunity to earn a profit? The result - mega layoffs.

How long will it take for this democrat government???s unemployment rate to rise to the double digit level and surpass that of Jimmy Carter???s administration?

Through Barack Obama???s likewise narrow-minded intention to reduce the deduction rates for charitable contributions by successful business executives, the nation???s disadvantaged will also be unfairly penalized.

By his naive and parasitic class warfare tax policies, Barack Obama has detrimentally chosen to roast the unique, valuable, and priceless goose that has previously laid the golden eggs, and if not targeted, would still be capable of continuing that critical function.

Obamanomics - punishing the successful, and rewarding the unsuccessful - will not grow the American economy; instead, that policy will destroy the economy and thereby cripple the nation!

Barack Obama - a true embarrassment to the concept of responsible government!

Obama just took office. That's really amusing that you are going to blame him for the entire financial collapse. Clearly, you don't like him, but what a ridiculous thing to write!!

      • Posted By: Davole @ 03/07/2009 3:05:35 PM

        kshortSD -

I'm not blaming Barack Obama "for the entire financial collapse" - Bill Clinton, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and mostly other democrats contributed immensely to the collapse of Freddie Mac and Fanny Mae. That is what started this whole mess.

But Barack Obama more than contributed by his continuous efforts to dig an even deeper hole.

He didn't take time during the election campaign to try to ensure that proper controls were placed on the TARP program.
His campaign promises caused the financial market to realize that his promises would severely augment the downturn.
His fluctuations to appeal to the radical left and the moderate right create financial uncertainty.
His nomination of FOUR tax dodgers to his administration contribute to reduce confidence in his government.
His determination to vilify and demonize the productive segment of society casts doubt on his competence.
His intention to punish the successful and reward the failures is counter-productive and illogical.
His policies, when announced each day, significantly cause the financial markets to erode further.
His policies have skyrocketed the unemployment numbers which show no sign of abating.
He intends to spend more that all 43 previous presidents have done.
He has enslaved all current taxpayers, their children, their grandchildren, etc. to finance his pork-barrel schemes.
He demonstrates that he intends to replace Capitalism with radical Socialism.

In summary, he has been implementing policy which further erodes the economy.

Clearly, since you can't realize what he has done, I do agree that your rant is ???a ridiculous thing to write???!

Obviously you???re ???short??? in more ways than one!

Go to school, and actually try to get an education - Barack Obama is incapable of handing one to you, although he will probably charge the taxpayer for that failed service!

        • Posted By: kshortSD @ 03/09/2009 12:41:11 PM

Oh, I guess I must have misunderstood your statement that "Barack Obama, by instigating class warfare against the top wage earners and job creators, is directly responsible for the disastrous collapse of the American economy. "

Barack Obama arrives in Washington on Air Force One, after a highly secretive trip to a tattoo parlour to have all of his earmarks removed. Yes, he definitely did have a lot of skin in the game, but somehow the public still recognizes him despite his new face.

He notices the vultures circling overhead, wipes aside some bird droppings from his perfectly styled hairdo, and hurriedly skips down the ornate Greek columned staircase which had been rolled into place. But he trips, and hits his head on the ground.

The crowd gasps, and Barack mutters something about that being a vast Right Wing conspiracy, probably led by both Karl Rove and Rush Limbaugh. He mumbles that his security force should get the number of the truck that hit him, and commands them to constrain and retain John Edwards to launch a lawsuit against the person responsible for that grievous assault.

Barack???s attending physician and psychologist immediately consult, and both agree that he has suffered no injury - after all - he hit his head - his densest bodily part.

But the aftereffect is that now, for the first time in his life, he actually speaks THE TRUTH!

A timid reporter hesitantly asks the supposedly all-knowing president - How deep is the recession?

Barack Obama honestly responds that he doesn???t have a clue, is in way over his head, and hasn???t even come close to touching bottom yet.

After hearing that pronouncement, the beguiled democrat throng disperses in admiration of the fact that their president has actually managed to speak the truth about the economy which he has devastated.

In celebration, the enlightened scamper to their computers to log onto the Newsweek site to praise their empty suit poor excuse for a president.

And later, while viewing the nightly news, they marvel over the revelation that Barack Obama is the first African-American president to order a ham sandwich late at night from the White House kitchen!

I'm sure that the young Conservatives who attended the CPAC conference notice that the mainstream media has reluctantly started to analyse the effects of the Barack Obama administration on the well-being of the nation.

The times - they are ???a changin???!

Have you noticed how Barack Obama???s aura of omnipotence finally appears to be in the process of being shattered by the main stream media and late night television entertainers?

After a long hiatus which began just as the anointed one descended from the heavens and grandiosely, as opposed to graciously, announced his campaign for the presidency, the veil which has protected him from any criticism is now beginning to disintegrate.

Almost on a daily basis, journalists who write for some of the nations most highly regarded newspapers are beginning to:
    - peel away the skin that Barack Obama has immersed into the game.
    - expose the unifying trait of many of his administrative nominees - tax dodgers.
    - reveal the ridiculousness of his proposed policies.
    - criticize the deceptive manner in which those policies are being approved and implemented,
    - demonstrate that he has chosen to target the successful and reward the failures.
    - emphasize that taxpayers, their children, their grandchildren, and etc. will ???pay the price.???
    - state that the dramatic downturn in the economy is the result of his policies and expenditures.
    - report that the skyrocketing unemployment rate is the result of his policies and expenditures.
    - suggest that he is ???in over his head??? in involving himself in any financial deliberations
    - summarize that he has united Chicago style intimidation with Washington style self-interest.
    - link the current rising number of military suicides to his decisions as commander-in-chief.
    - and lastly, that he is doomed to fail, and to bankrupt the nation.

Yesterday, David Letterman, on his show, trained his sights on Barack Obama, pulled the trigger, and hit a ???bull???s eye??? with his quip -
A man recently won $210 million in a lottery - after paying taxes according to Barack Obama???s taxation policy, he will actually have enough money left to buy another lottery ticket.

    Touché!

Or, if you are still duped by Barack Obama and his abomination of an administration - Touchy!

The fact the Republican Party is crazy is what I think is being exposed here.
One has to be suspicious at least of people who claim compassion as their own yet are devoid of that facet of normal human nature.
It was interesting to watch CPAC and the few sane voices booed and shunned, Tucker Carlton and Gov Crist. But the nut jobs like Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh treated as heroes.
Makes it seem insanity and certainly a high minded blind arrogance is a requirement to be an honored member of the Republican Party.

  • Posted By: kshortSD @ 03/04/2009 4:33:26 PM

As long as the Republican party feels compelled to cater to the fanatic religious right of our country, as well as the "hard-working" bluecollar workers of the "heartland", they will continue to fall short in the electoral process. Our nation is increasing in cultural and religious diversity, thankfully, and conservatives will have to abandon their dream of forcing their archaic ideas on the rest of us.

    • Posted By: kshortSD @ 03/04/2009 4:46:15 PM

I'd like to point out that I have few problems with the Republican mindset of smaller government, however, it is mainly with the outdated social policies of the party with which I stronly disagree.

      • Posted By: bkrummel @ 03/04/2009 8:44:04 PM

Could you expand on your "few problems with the Republican mindset of smaller government"?

I personally see some problems with "smaller government", namely that the Republican mistaken small government for opposition to any government solutions to problems, saying "government is the problem". Also, some of the small government policies such as tax cuts galore are a little outdated and can (and some want to) be taken to absurdity, using tax cuts to solve every economic ill and wanting tax cuts until there are almost no taxes. But I maintain the limited government principles still are good ideas. Limited government in short refers to the government that is best is that which governs least. It refers to reserving as much responsibility and power to the people, not the government, or at least to the local governments. This has more to do with limiting government power than with having a government of a particular size (hence why I say limited government rather than small government).

Have I hit on your major concerns, or is there some other concerns of yours with "smaller government"? I ask since I strongly believe in limited government and would find it interesting / enlightening if you had constructive criticism of it.

Though I strongly agree with your concerns about the Republican Party and the religious right and bluecollar workers, as I have previously indicated below.

        • Posted By: kshortSD @ 03/05/2009 11:49:18 AM

I believe that there is a tremendous amount of wasteful spending in our government. I'm not trying to imply that government programs are worthless, I'm only saying that the fat can be trimmed and funds be put to better use.

    Operation Rushbo!

The four mouseketeers, democrat strategists Stanley Greenberg, James Carville, Paul Begala, and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel have decided to attempt to deflect public attention from the substance and cost of Barack Obama???s numerous abysmal Porkulus Packages by launching a tirade against Rush Limbaugh.

Yes, the democrats are revealing themselves to be true students of history, as they attempt to revive the manipulative propaganda policies of the repulsive and oppressive Third Reich.

Rush Limbaugh, the ever jovial competent radio conservative talk-show host, who enjoys the support of over 20 million listeners, welcomed the additional attention, and revels in the fact that most democrats regard him as the de facto leader of the Republican party.

He confidently challenged Barack Obama to debate his failing government???s economic so-called stimulus omnibus bills, and its other chaotic policies to foster and entrench radical socialism.
As usual, Barack Obama and his talking heads are unavailable for comment.

As a side note, Sean Hannity, an accomplished conservative commentator on the Fox News channel, has also previously challenged Barack Obama to get together with him over a few beers and to discuss the current empty suit president???s economic policies.
As usual, Barack Obama and his talking heads are unavailable for comment.

Revealing himself to be the true sportsman that he is, Barack Obama obviously prefers to focus on the softball questions of adoration lobbed to him by the likes of Oprah and the chatterbox talking heads who gossip on the View (or more correctly described as the Phew!).

Barack Obama can run, but he cannot hide! His pathetic legacy is visible for all to see!

  • Posted By: MichaelX @ 03/04/2009 4:47:30 PM

Increasing cultural and religious diversity IS the problem. The Dems cater to them to provide their creature comforts, and absolutely love the needyness of immigrants. As the Republic goes down the drain, so too the two party system.
That hs been the Dems pet project for a long time, and the citizens bought into it by electing the wrong man for the job.
Oh, wait. they are proud of what they have done to americans, reguardless of ethnicity. It's the "New socialism" that's "different" than that "other" one. The Dems are going hog-wild, and there is nothing that a non-existant party can do about it.

    • Posted By: kshortSD @ 03/04/2009 4:57:43 PM

Do you HONESTLY expect our nation to be all white/all Christian forever? Well, it's a couple of hundred years too late for that. People who resist change really scare me.

  • Posted By: bkrummel @ 03/03/2009 11:17:55 PM

I'm a 25 year old former Republican. My father was a Republican-leaning independent. I really liked the libertarian conservative and fiscal conservative stuff, so when I got my license I registered Republican. Rogerally, you are absolutely right about Bush. Because of the party's dumb policies over the past 8 years, I re-registered as an independent. If the Republicans moved in the direction of someone like Ron Paul. I would support it took. I will not vote for the Party of Limbaugh.

There are a lot "former Republicans" out there of all ages. Rogerally, 40YearR, and I are just a small subset of people who I have decided to talk here. The unfortunate thing is the people at CPAC and the Republicans overall do not recognize this and are missing a really opportunity to claim their principles and win back voters.

    • Posted By: 40YearR @ 03/03/2009 11:53:01 PM

That was interesting. I am a 50 year old former Republican. If these young folks can steer the party towards a Ron Paul platform, I say, more power to them. It will take someone like Paul or Chuck Hagel to draw me back into the fold again. I do not like George Bush and his blatant disregard for conservative economic and foriegn policies. Anyone who runs on the RNC platform must disavow Bush, otherwise, I will not vote for them.

    • Posted By: 40YearR @ 03/03/2009 11:41:42 PM

I like the 'spirit' of the libertarian point of view. I have held the same views. I could not see before though how essentially no government could be productive with too little government. I drove through Europe and marveled at the wealth of those who could build those castles. A gold standard for money would mean that there would be too little money, is another pixel. I think the world is too complex, and the historical consequences of literal libertarianism or equivilant power do not result in or facilitate maximum (or optimum) money circulating.

The practical real world I see is that extending 'free' economy to what it does is to create circumstances such as are.

Moderate is a key word for me. The republican party is so far from moderate that it is bothersome for me.

      A 40 year republican

  • Posted By: 40YearR @ 03/03/2009 9:18:03 PM

My problem with CPAC was that blowhard Rush Limbuagh got so much support for exclaiming that the republican party should remain hardline rightwing.

That is how the republican party went wrong. It is why the party has lost the last two election cycles. It is why so many moderates like me wonder whether we want to remain in the party. It is why so many moderates have already given up on the party.

Having that ranting buffoon Rush Limbaugh as the 'intellectual' and bullying 'spokesman', Is a symptom that does not bode well for the party. He inhibits any moderate from believing in a party that is dominated by such ofal like him and by those who think that he represents what the party should be or will be.

The party will not grow from the right wing. It will continue to shrink with that approach. It can only grow, if it will, from the middle.

Lincoln was responsible for the Emancipation Proclaimation which freed the slaves. He was a Republican.

In response to the Brown vs Board of Education ruling which ended the seaperate but equal doctrine for American blacks and whites, the governor of Arkansas sent the state militia out to prevent black school children from entering a "white" school. President Eisenhower nationalized the state militia, and gave them new orders to make sure that those school children got into the school. The governor of Arkansas was a Democrat, and President Eisenhower was a Republican.

There is one sitting senator in Washington that was a card carrying member of the Ku Klux Klan. It is Robert Byrd from West Virginia. He is a Democrat.

It is pathetic that so few Americans know enough history to be able to make a rational judgment about which political party has done the most for minority interests.

The Republican party seeks to have a society in which people compete on a level playing field, rather than a system which is constantly playing one group off of another. End affirmative action. Respect separation of church and state, and keep government out of marriage.

    • Posted By: bkrummel @ 03/03/2009 7:56:11 PM

Nukeboy, you are right that the Republican Party historically has done a lot for minorities. But this does not address what the Republicans have done for minorities recently. For example, if the Republican so deeply cares about minorities, why didn't the front runners for the Republican Primaries last year attend the debate specifically on minority issues. If the Republicans truly cared about minorities, why don't they engage them in conversation and present policies to help minorities? You talk about "a level playing field" and "ending affirmative action", but how do you plan to address the disparities for minorities?

People really need to take a serious second look at the Republican Party with regard to minority issues. But the Republican Party also needs to take a hard look at how they handle minority issues. They should be doing better.

You briefly state "Respect separation of church and state, and keep government out of marriage." This is fine and good, but it this really what the Republican Party stands for? Isn't it the Religious Right how are trying to force their moral values and even their religion upon everyone else? Isn't the Religious Right trying to interject their religion to get Intelligent Design, i.e. Creationism, taught in the classrooms? Some Republicans like myself my truly respect the separation of church and state, but the Religious Right and thus the party as a whole does not. As far as government and marriage, there are two types of marriages: legal marriage, where you get a marriage license and this grants you various rights, and cultural marriage, the ceremony etc. The government is quite involved in legal marriage, but is completely out of cultural marriage. I have not heard Republicans talk about ending legal marriage. Let me note gay people are only seeking the right to legal marriage, not cultural marriage. So do you mean the Republican Party seeks to keep the government completely out of marriage by ending legal marriage or do you mean the Republican Party seeks to keep the government out of redefining legal marriage as to keep gay people from having the right to legal marriage?

  • Posted By: Greatyasha @ 03/03/2009 8:04:36 PM

The Republican Party is one of the oldest if not the oldest party so therefore of course they have done much. By no ways I am I trying to discredit them, I support them. They have done much for the US even if they dont have the majority. CPAC was extremely powerful this year. The article is written well.

  • Posted By: bkrummel @ 03/02/2009 5:07:21 AM

I saw CPAC on CSPAN and it was rather disturbing (and I'm a former Republican). Yes there was a strong youth element. Some of this is nice like students sticking up for political diversity and ROTC on campus and the Ron Paul supporters. But it seems overall the people at CPAC, including the younger folk, want to go in the direction of Rush Limbaugh and the Far Right. They talked about their guns, right to life, God, etc, enough to make me cringe. This is a serious divergence from the kinda of conservatism of Reagan and Goldwater. The youth voters and the country (outside CPAC) for the most part are not at all interested in Limbaugh or the Far Right. If the Republicans are going to move further to the right and rally behind Limbaugh, they are in for many more lost elections and good riddance.

    • Posted By: rhtwng1 @ 03/02/2009 8:46:13 AM

The only thing disturbing is your response to CPAC. At no time was there any racial comments made that would slightly offend any race. I was at CPAC every day along with African American students who loved the conference and are ready for next year! I suggest you re-evaluate what you "heard' about CPAC and attend a conference for yourself. And let me get this straight, we can't talk about God, the right to live etc... but you can rant about gay rights and the right to kill an unborn child? Interesting friend. Before you decide to right something again think about how it will look/sound next time. Unlike myself, God still loves you :)

      • Posted By: bkrummel @ 03/02/2009 1:39:04 PM

rhtwng1 - I don't get where I said there were racial comments at CPAC. BlackConservative implied this and I told him he was wrong. I think you need to talk to people like BlackConservative. They would be surprised to learn of the African American student presence at CPAC. For completeness, let me show you what I said to BlackConservative about race at CPAC:

"I am confused. I saw CPAC on CSPAN. Yes there was a strong "anglo" presence. This is disappointing, but then again almost every black and many other minorities are Democrats, so this isn't overly surprising. But of all the disturbing things I heard at CPAC, I never heard anything racist. If anything, I heard talk of elevating people and giving them opportunities that they currently don't have, often strongly implying that these opportunities would be for black and minorities. I think it is erroneous for you to suggest that CPAC was somehow racist. I think you need to take a second look at what the people at CPAC said and stand for."

You absolutely may talk about God and right to life, just don't expect me to support you at all. I believe, as Barry Goldwater did, that the Religious Right has done far more damage to the Republican Party than the liberals ever did. The core principles of the party were libertarian conservatism, a strong belief in individual liberty and responsibility and respect for the Constitution. You complain about me ranting about gay rights, but you have no problem infringing upon gay rights. You talk about the right of the unborn, but you ignore the rights of the mother and her doctors and ignore the extreme cases were one is understandably tempted to have an abortion (though hopefully doesn't save a medical complication). Conservatism is deeply rooted in realism (read Goldwater or at least listen to Limbaugh, they both say this) and yet you ignore the reality that mothers with "unwanted" pregnancies face and fail to provide them real solutions. You seem to not respect the fact that I am an Atheist. Overall, you stand opposed to individual liberty and the Constitution (2nd Amendment) except when it is consistent with or adds your religious agenda. This is directly contrary to Conservatism as I above and others elsewhere have described it. And you went to CPAC?! You call yourself Conservative?! You wouldn't know Conservatism if it was standing right in front of you!

I am sorry you don't love me. Because, despite my strong disagreement with you, I still love you.

        • Posted By: bkrummel @ 03/03/2009 6:19:00 PM

Oops, I meant "Overall, you stand opposed to individual liberty and the Constitution (1st Amendment) except when it is consistent with or adds to your religious agenda." These people love the 2nd Amendment (guns), but they don't fully care about the 1st Amendment, in particular religious freedoms for non-Christians.

          bkrummel -

Said like a true democrat - perpetually mired by narrow-minded preoccupation with anglos, blacks, minorities, gays, etc., instead of noticing people who are willing and determined to reform and energize the Republican party according to Conservative ideas and ideals.

Your archaic Barry Goldwater campaign button isn't worth much these days - toss it away, along with your false and misguided assumptions regarding the true morals and principles of the Republican party.

          • Posted By: bkrummel @ 03/03/2009 1:32:19 AM

"reform and energize the Republican party according to Conservative ideas and ideals." You must be joking. You are destroying, not reforming or energizing, the Republican Party by moving closer to the Far Right. You are making the party more inclusive, following a bad agenda, and thankfully losing elections. You have no ideas. At all. And, as I have indicated here and elsewhere, you disregard for the Constitution and individual liberty to pursue your agenda and that is in no way Conservative.

It isn't about Goldwater. I wasn't even alive when he ran for president. It's the ideals about individual liberty and responsibility, the Constitution, etc that I strongly belief in. It's about how these ideals used to be the Republican Party principles. It's about how people like you and some at CPAC have taken these ideals and thrown them in the gutter because you'd rather follow a false version of Conservatism and a misguided agenda. It's about how Goldwater (and most voters) realized this and you should too.

These ideals are not archaic. If they were, Ron Paul wouldn't have supporters. Democrats wouldn't complain about Bush violating the Constitution. You are the ones who are archaic. You are still stuck in a time where everyone is white and Protestant. Everything would shutdown on Sundays. Homosexuality is considered immoral. Government is the problem and tax cuts are the answer. You ignore the demographics, our culture, and our problems are changing. That the population of minorities is growing fast than the population of whites. Our society is more secular and urban. Most young people support gay marriage. We are in a crisis where government is an important part of the answer. Taxes are already very low. You haven't adapted to any of this.

The sad thing is that Conservative ideals, as I described them, are important to keeping Obama in check and addressing problems such as the deficit. These ideals can be applied to provide modern solutions to current problems, solutions that are far better than the Democrat ones.

It's funny. David Brooks and others say Goldwater is outdated and we need to move to the center and provide policies. You and others say Goldwater is archaic and we need to move to the right and return to our principles. You both have it so right and so wrong. Goldwater was one of the fathers of the current Conservative movement and defined our principles. We need to return to these principles by moving to the center, where they are, and applying these principles to policy. There should be no debate here. If we are serious about Conservatism and winning elections, this is The Direction we must go in.

I have not only attended the conference, but I also understand the covert racism that goes on at CPAC. How can I listen to a white man that says the only reason why Gen. Powell endorsed Pres. Obama was because he was black, and yet he never made that same claim with whites that endorsed Pres. Obama. Therefore, what is his premise? Blacks somehow do not have the mind necessary to make informed decisions especially as voters. Next, the only blacks that conservatives will "deal with" are those who are willing to endorse their rose colored glasses in the area of race. I refuse to do that because our society trains us to see race (it's the reaction that makes you racist). Conservatives claim the title, colorblind, but they define color when its necessary, and expedient just like liberals. People want to overlook Einstein's statement that racism is a white man's disease and he didn't label it with a political party or ideology. Conservatives want to complain about a Rev. Wright, but then they refuse to understand that he is only allowed to exist because you allowed the likes of Ann Coulter (racist), and Rush Limbaugh (racist) to exist.

    • Posted By: cm4297 @ 03/02/2009 8:21:02 AM

I am a black, Republican, and the new strain of Republicanism does not include me. It includes disenfranchized whites who believe in the deeply rooted racist phrases, "Lets keep America, America," code for lets keep everyone out who is not white and protestant. Republcians are always screaming about the racist Democrat roots, but yet they have never studied their own. Republcianism is made of the likes of Frederick Douglass who will never be mentioned with LIncoln (slave owner) and Reagan (slaveowner through Reaganomics). Being a conservative means embracing Christianity, but not embracing those that Jesus demanded that you care for. I believe that our economic problems of today are a direct result of not only CEO greed, and overjealous spending of the working class, but of our failure to take care of the least of the least of these. That's true Republcanism what I"m talking about. These newage Republcians who labeled the media as liberal, but continue to embrace every media moment are jokes (Coulter, Limbaugh, etc.).

We're so appreciative of your desire to enlighten us regarding your opinion that "Lets (do you mean Let???s?) keep America, America" is code for lets (do you mean let???s?) keep everyone out who is not white and protestant.
You???re a real genius! How did you ever manage to decipher that code? It must have taken you months, or even years! Barack Obama???s CIA can sure use a person with your abilities!

It is blatantly obvious that you are not a Republican - especially by observing your repetitive inability to spell that word - you state "Republcians ... Republcianism ... Republcanism ... Republcians.???

Why are so many democrats unwilling to admit that they are democrats, and instead try to pawn themselves off as Republicans? Is it because they have been embarrassed by the false messiah, the media talking heads darling and saviour, Barack Obama?

      • Posted By: bkrummel @ 03/02/2009 2:52:14 PM

A few quick minor comments. The Republican Party has acted racially ignorant and sometime outright racist in a number of ways and for this I will call them on. However, I don't think anything outright racist was said at CPAC. Don't call Reagan a slaveowner, esp. considering how insulting this is and how Reagan tried to reach out to blacks. Being a conservative does NOT mean embracing Christianity, as non-Christians can be conservative too (I think you didn't intend to say this, but I still want to point it out). Though you are absolutely correct that the current Republicans do have a funny way of embracing their conservative and Christian beliefs.

Overall, I agree with your posts. I sympathize with you. I am greatly dismayed that most blacks do not feel included in the "new strain of Republicanism". I don't feel included myself. Keep speaking out about this; maybe the Republican Party will wise up and start including us.

Yeah, there is racism running rampant on the GOP side; and (it's so stupid you gotta laugh at them), when I googled al jazeera...I found some interesting video footage. Some of the fervent GOP backers during the '08 campaign were at a Palin rally in Ohio. Many of the comments on these videos sound very much like the ignorant and insidious comments by GOP-backing people that are posting on this thread. The usual misinformed fear-filled lies spewed by the GOP during the campaign on these videos were: that guy Obama? yeah, a ****** like that is not first class, but second class, Obama? he's a muslim!!! Obama? If it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck, then it must be a duck. Obama? he's a terrorist!!! Obama? he thinks all us white people are trash!!!....and, of course, during McCain's frolicking campaign trail these comments were made...******!!! Kill'em!!! M'aam, why don't you trust Obama?...because, sir, welll, you see,...HE'S AN ARAB!!! During one of the presisential debates, McCain angrily spit out, THAT ONE!!! Idiot Palin accusing Obama of being a socialist while she herself has an economic plan that SHARES THE COLLECTIVE WEALTH among Alaskans??? Sorry, GOP, I don't give a rats behind how many people of different races of people are in your dwindling club, there is rampant ignorance, hate, and racism on your side of the fence. I honestly am bewildered as to why these other races of people would want to be in your club after seeing and hearing all of these obvious ingorant, racist, hate-stirring comments made by the GOP!!! And, to your end, you still continue to lie, misinform, malign, and fear-monger gullible people to keep them brainwashed.

It's sick demented deceptive rich over payed left wing closet homosexuals like Mark Thieme that make America ½ step closer to a Godless society of deviant behavior. No, the real sickos are you Bible thumping psychopaths.

What have the gays done or threatened to do to you? They just want to live their lives with the same respect and dignity as everyone else. Gay people are just like everyone else. If you saw them on the street or at work, you wouldn't even know they were gay unless they told you or had a significant other with them. The homosexuals have no intentions of corrupting young children. But many people, straight and gay, want to teach children to be respectful of people with different lifestyles and that's a good thing.

What have the Atheist done to you? Perhaps you are upset over that nut Newdow tried to remove "God" from the pledge and coins and or how scientist like Dawkins stick up for their Atheism and science. First off, these people are not most Atheist. Most Atheist are good people living their lives just like you, except without religion. They just want their beliefs respected. They also don't want to religious nut corrupting kids by teaching nonsense like Creationism in school.

"This Country was founded by believers in Christ"?! The Founding Fathers, regardless of their beliefs, gave us religious freedom as protected by the 1st Amendment. Not everyone in this country believes in Christ and you can't convert us by pretending "this is a Christian nation".

The Religious Right is UnAmerican and non-Christ-like, as you have no problem judging, disrespecting, and infringing upon others rights when it is in the name of Christ. You only care about the Country, the Constitution, and the teachings of Christ when it is consistent with your warped view of Christianity and with your goal of forcing it on everyone else.

By the way, I'm an Atheist, I have gay friends and support their rights, and I used to be a Republican. You keep marginalizing people like me, you won't be able to get enough votes for a congressional majority until at least 2020.

        To Guitar.
Hey, I'm a liberal. I pay taxes as well. I like the fact that tolerance, yes, that awful word, tolerance, is taught in school. Creationism is backwards, the concept of God is just plain ridiculous. Thank God (pun intended) we don't waste tax money on religion in public schools. Imagine, if you will, that you were an alien being from an advanced civilization who visited this lovely planet Earth. The inhabitants of the planet worship and invisible, almighty man in the sky. A man who can do no wrong and set up his religion based on a system of rewards and punishments, killed everyone except Noah and family by conjuring up a flood, has favorites(the Jews), and is apparently 3 dudes in one. Oh yeah, he willed the universe into existence but had to rest on the 7th day, because he was tired. Common, the whole concept is ridiculous. Now, your going to say, if God didn't make this, then how are we here. My explanation of "out of thin air" holds just as much, if not more, water than a petulant almighty being who likes to play games with peoples lives.

Left wing closet homosexuals???? Are you serious? Almost every closet homo ends up being the staunchest, anti-gay, self loathing, Bible thumping Repubican out there. When Democrats get busted, its for banging hookers, not footsy in an airport bathroom stall.

Whats with the religious rights fixation on gays? Live and let live man. I'm not gay, I'd rather not see two guys making out in front of me but what they do is their own business.

I've never owned a gun or thought I needed to until now. I will buy one just as soon as my local stores can keep them in stock long enough for me to buy one. That should tell you something. By the way, I'm planting a garden and buying a few cows and chickens too, so that my family won't starve when this country goes bankrupt with all the money President Obomination is giving away. A lot of that money came from me, a small business owner that provided JOBS for others and contributed to the econmy by purchasing goods and services, which kept other small business people alive and able to offer JOBS to others. But that's not what we're about today. We don't want JOBS so that people can earn a living. let's take it from small business owners like me who have shed blood, swet, and tears, and risked everything to make a few dollars. Yes, take it from the likes of me and give it to the likes of Octomom. She can scam the taxpayers out of hundreds of thousands of dollars and never spend a second in jail, but let me tell the IRS I don't want my hard earned money spent on programs that support couch potatoes, and I'll spend a few years behind bars, and STILL owe my unpaid taxes when I get out.

Barack Obama Charts the High Seas and the High Seize!

Rest assured - Captain Barack Obama is on the bridge of the listing democrat ship Lollipop.
Yes, we know that because he has definitely depressed the worn-out button labeled ???Present???.
And the media talking heads report that he looks so handsome in that dashing captain???s outfit.
They opine in unison - Just look at that classic olympian physique - so perfect!

Suddenly one valiant but worried and soaked passenger shouts from below - How high???s the water, Captain?

Barack Obama becomes visibly annoyed - he activates his teleprompter, leans forward to read it, and enunciates the depressing but cautionary oratory - Six foot high and rising!

Shortly after Barack Obama has smoked and flicked aside a self rolled odd-scented cigarette, a frantic crew member deserts his post, rushes in and implores - How high???s the water, Captain?

Barack Obama, now shaken out of his stupor - cowers, and shrieks - Ten feet high and rising!
As he dons the lone oxygen supply, he smirks and quirks - just getting a breath of fresh air.

The American taxpayers are ready to commit mutiny - they are debating whether to confine Barack Obama to the brig, or else force him to walk the plank.
Then one of the many paupers onboard suggests - Let???s decide by tossing a coin, if anyone here still has one!
But nobody has even one nickle that they can rub together, let alone toss.

As the democrat crew finally realize that their ship could never manage to reach port, the depth of reality swallows not only Barack Obama, but also his hapless slaves and victims!
