I have to differ with Mr. Setoodeh's negative comments concerning Julia Roberts' performance in the movie "Charlie Wilson's War." While it may not be a movie for everyone, I think that will be enjoyed by thoughtful people. It is well written and filled with witty dialogue. I particularly liked the repartee between Congressman Wilson (Tom Hanks), his assistants, Julia as a weathly Houstonian, Joanne Herring, and the CIA men. Julia apparently understands the mindset of Texans well because I found her performance very believable. If you know Texans, you will understand Julia's portrayal of Ms. Herring.

"Charlie Wilson's War," while entertaining throughout, ends with an important, sobering lesson at its end and, thus, becomes more than a typical Hollywood film. I suspect that "Charlie Wilson's War" could become a cult film of sorts for politcal types.

I purchased the film for some of my friends here in the Lubbock area who had not heard of the film and I understand that the DVD has passed through the hands of a number of people. I have yet to hear any negative complaints. This was weeks ago and I have yet to get it back.

Speak for yourself, Ramin. Personally, I believe Roberts is the very personification of everything that is wrong with the corrupt, arbitrary HGollywood system, and I can't wait for her to find her rightful place in the proverbial dustheap of history...

pompeiipat, Runaway Bride was a movie in which Julia Roberts was completely out of perfect make up and hair. She played a very humorous gal that had cold feet when it came to marriage...she was very imperfect and awesome in this movie. Julia Roberts is an extrememly talented actress who was intelligent enough to act where her strengths were. I have seen too many actors/actresses over the years who try to act outside of their strengths and they failed miserably when trying to act in a role that they were not meant to be in. So, to say anyone is a poor actor/actress; because they stuck with what worked for their strongsuits, and they were extrememly successful in doing so; is an inane argument. People, no matter what profession they are in, show very high intelligence by sticking with what works the best for them. In addition to Julia Roberts high intelligence is her natural beauty...she is very hot looking and carries herself with grace and confidence.

Whoever said Julia Roberts knows how to act needs their head examined! Just like the other comment stated, she plays the same roles over and over. She falls in the same category as the Baldwin brothers, Richard Greer and the other suite & tie actors and party dress actresses! Here is a thought! Before she goes out of the limelight, she should try playing a role that requires here to be out of perfect makeup and hair, A role that she can't wear in fashion clothes, and one that actually has a story you haven't heard over and over and over again! Just because your related to somebody in the industry doesn't mean you have talent!

I take your comment as a personal affront to me, although everyone has the perfect right to their own likes and dislikes, I think your comment was disgraceful to a wonderful, graceful, wonderful woman whom I adore as an Actress and would be honored to have her as a friend.j

Go Julia, Go! Whether or not Julia is over on the big screen, one thing is for certain, she has earned the title and all the glory she wants to make of her life by being the most successful actress of all times. Whether it's her one-of-a-kind laugh, her contagiously beautiful smile, her incredibly hot body or the influential strength of character Julia has shared with us over the years, she certainly has left a remarkable impression on so many people. And whether Julia ever acts again, it seems that a least a few of the films and characters Julia played managed to become engraved in the hearts and eyes of her viewers who will certainly be passing them on to future generations to come. Julia couldn't have turned more heads, flattered more people or engraved any more memories with each of her stunningly graceful and charasmatic performances. There certainly are plenty of us who are admitedly saddened beyond words by the possibility alone that we may not experience that overwhelming excitement that encases us as the anticipation grows, just before that single moment when Julia emerges overflowing with vast emotions and so full of life we can't escape being sucked in to every moment. Those memories will not end here since we have every film of her career on DVD. To whatever extent and for however long we chose to have Julia's presence in our lives, it only seems fair that she be given the same choice. Julia made her impression on us, it does seems she be respected and given the space she needs to embrace her own life and certainly to make an equal if not more powerful and everlasting impression on her children. Thank you Julia. Here's wishing all your dreams really do come true.

Who cares? She once said "I give the public every thing they ask for. It's never enough". We live in a cynical world. We as a human race love to raise people up only to bring them down. Her family will always come first. If it didn't, we would be critical of her parenting, or lack thereof, in lieu of being a famous actress. Give it up already. She's done her part and leave her alone....TMZ included. I saw this week's episode. She's entitled to her privacy and performs for the pappers as much as she performs for those whom pay to watch her movies. Thanks.

Julia Roberts is a terrific actress, and her films have seen me through some hard times. She has always made me feel better, and frankly, I have always felt that the more a critic hated (disliked) a film, usually the better it was. I hope she reigns for a long time, as I for one am a huge fan of Old (41, ha!) Hollywood!!!!

it does not matter how old she is, Julia Roberts will always be remembered weather she makes more movies or not, she is beautiful and has done great movies and even if it hurts others she will always be around!

i don't care how old she is or if she is old fashion, she is great and she is beautiful. Wether she makes more movies or not she will always be Julia Roberts and will be envied by everyone else!

I realize that you have to write something about the star of a major movie before that movie is about to open; however, putting some thought into the piece won't hurt you. I promise. Give it a try sometime.

Say what you want, criticize her in any area, personal or professional, but you will neer take away Julia Roberts' legacy or impact on the American Movie Industry. You will never be able to change the doors she opened for all women in the "equal pay" arena. She is a lady, a wonderful actress and I would watch her feed her dogs and be thoroughly entertained. She is entitled to her privacy and she is also entitled to continue her career "past 40." Instead of looking for ways to criticize her, why not find what you DID like about the movie and emphasize that. We have enough to deal with in today's economy without you trying to devalue something or someone who can still make us smile, still make us laugh out loud right along with her without hearing anything but that wonderful laugh of hers.

Oh, the sexist unfairness of it all! Clive Owen is 44 (soon to be 45) and yet nobody's calling him a has-been who's too old. Heck, he's just getting started. The pairing of these two might be apt; despite the fact that I rank Mr. Owen as a far superior actor to Roberts, who remains mostly hair and teeth, the fact is that Owen has gotten famous for playing very specific kinds of roles, just like Roberts. He's also lanky with untameable hair and a great smile just like hers. But Clive better watch out lest he be dismissed as a photogenic lightweight like his co-star.

I love this comment. Something to think about. The man at 44 is not "over with", but the woman who pulled in godzillions of dollars is.

I wish Julia, Ashley Judd, or even Jlo would start remaking those strong scheming wicked women roles again. The women in the movies nowadays are wimps. I would love to see the Barbara Stanwyck, Bette Davis model resurrected on the screen. We read about these women all the time in the news: The gold diggers who marry the rich man and off him. The woman who has the younger man kill the husband. Why don't writers pickup on these stories and put them on screen?
As for Julia, she's not "over" but she needs to reboot her career and stop playing "cute" romantic, and get down and dirty. I just saw AJ in Changeling and that was a very good role. Must we depend on the Clint Eastwoods of the movie industry to find parts for women? Women directors and writers can do it.

For me, admiration is based in respect. And I certainly cannot "love" someone I have no respect for. I lost all respect for Roberts when she engaged in a grubby tug-of-war over her current husband with his then cuckholded wife. Roberts would not be denied and purchased her latest conquest with the aplomb of someone ordering a honey-baked ham. To their credit, her publiicists kept a fairly tight lid on this classless dust-up, in spite of the fact that like a spoiled toddler throwing an ugly tantrm, Roberts appeared in public with a custom-made t-shirt calling out her rival. How classless can you get? So I think that Roberts' low profile is calculated and well engineered. Now that she and her spouse have children, no doubt they are motivated to keep the media coverage to a low roar. No one wants their kids to someday go online and read that Mommy is a husband-stealing self-centered narcissist or that Daddy has a history of marital infidelity and was basically bought and paid for. That will make for an interesting family discussion at the Roberts-Mulder dinner table someday in the not too distant future. Unless, of course, Roberts has moved on to her next unseemly boy toy acquisition by the time the tots are teens. Rock on, Norma Desomnd!

You write about a "movie star" as if you were a relative who lives with her. How you could have so much info about someone you have never even seen boggles the mind. It was like reading only one side of an obviously complicated, two sided story. How do you know for a fact that the other woman was a complete saint and not a complete bitch. I confess, I know nothing of this situation, but you should confess you don't either. After all, you didn't even get the husband's name right. If you don't like her as an actress, that's dandy, that's all you have a right to. You don't judge someone by the gossip and inuendo that circulates around them.

Julia Roberts will always be a very special person and a good actress, her personlity and her pazzaz as a person cannot be acted or duplicated, that is just Julia1 I do not think she will ever go away, she will be making movies until she is 80 as far as I am concerned. I will always love her as an actress and for who she is. I worked at Universal Studios and casting was next to me, casting is selecting the person to fit the part and that is what makes a good movie, that is Julia!

A new start for Phyllis Montana-Leblanc, featured in Spike Lee's HBO Documentary; "When The Levees Broke." David Simon, creator of HBO's "The Wire" has hired me to play Wendell Pierce's (Bunk/The Wire) girlfriend in his new HBO Series, "Treme." Filmng has started in New Orleans and is based on the musicians in New Orleans. I was referred to David Simon by Spike Lee and was hired to play the part. Julia Roberts is no Elizabeth Taylor and right now Ms Taylor is a nobody. But like all actresses and actors they will be gone with the wind one day. There are too many of them now.
