Not an inactive FDA! An FDA that has been openly working with industry to promote those products that industry wants promoted -- like chemical food colors, aspartame, and MSG.

I'm very encouraged that Sebelius will do a wonderful job of reworking the FDA from the ineffective department it was to an FDA that gets busy doing what it takes for the safety of Americans. The FDA was not doing a proper job during Bush's presidency because that is how he wanted it. Now that will change.

A huge problem with the FDA and other regulatory bodies is that the Bush administration cut and/or did not add sufficient funding to these agencies so that they could adequately protect the public!! Many of these agencies such as the FDA are severely under staffed. They can't possibly keep up with the astronimical number of imports into the US, hence the contaminated and deadly products. Not to mention, keep up with regulating businesses here in the US.

And lastly, I sincerely hope our new Secretary will take a stance and deem it to be utterly Unacceptable to babjy formula to contain any contaminates, namingly rocket fuel, melamine and cyurnic acid. The smalllest amounts should not be in our childrens'/ infant foods or formulas. It's time the FDA protected the public as it was intended to do, versus the industry as it has during the Bush administration.

One Last Comment for me: Any government that focuses on having only a few win and the majority loose is not only irresponsible but also criminal and, as we have seen, contributes to the failure of the whole, even globally, system. John McCain, Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Jon Kyl, Lindsay Grahm, Michael Steele, Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Riely,, don't have any real answers only criticisms as they once again are just puppets for the same powerful influences that controlled Bush and Cheney. No matter how much subterfuge is used to sell it, gonig back to more of the same should never be an option!

Congress should remove food safety from the FDA portfolio; either give it to Agriculture department or have a separet department of food safety.

I'm still trying to figure out how a nominee who cannot seem to pay her taxes [ye gods. Another one], can corral the problems inherent in Ameriican food and drug manufacture.

I think the biggest failure of the FDA has been to do anything about our corn syrup epidemic. It's done horrendous things to the public health in general.

One more thing, Farms can be safe ? Yes the problem is the lack on the system to prevent contamination is bery simple, we only gamble with it even when we know it why is to hard for this people to get up and start to work they only been play to be lazy most of this people should be replaced long time ago !..........

I don't know if to cry or laugh, the food and drug administration is just been a joke since 1999, Human service's in most states they have pile up, paper work regarding abuses to the consumer and the work force !.
Also most states just been play the same game don't know for sure if the problem is the short of personel !, but the problem they have in health inspections to direct adecuate check's the health department most times advice with day's on when they will conduct an inspection on an any business the most common reason is odvious on the present day, then Mrs: Sivelius have a big chalenge she will make? .............

As a United StatesDepatment Of Agicultue commodities Inspector,I see these calamaties frequently. Low morale, poor supervision, politically corect promotions instead of meritorious ones and the list goes on.. Regulations written in 1942(Codes of Enforcement)..... just an out of touch agency.

Disband it, take my job and others(top down) and start over.
