I just saw this issue on the newstand at my grocery store. I would like to point out to the Newsweek staff, who probably will never read this, that according to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word "man" means an adult male human, and hasn't meant "an adult human of either gender" since the 12th century. So when you title your article "The Thinking Man's Populism" and put it on the front cover, you are in effect saying that women are irrelevant. If you would like to address your magazine to all adults, let me introduce you to the word "person". It means a human being of either gender.

A threat to capitalism? Perhaps the author should check the definition of capitalism. It will always contain the word "Production" and the words "the production and sale of goods".
I have no idea what to call the American economic model and those Wall Street bankers and corporate CEO's.
Nothing comes to mind that is fit for print in a public forum and none contain the word capitalist other than the possibility of Elitist Capitolism as a replacement for trickle down economics.
This country lost its right to claim Capitalism when Nixon declared America a "Service economy and the effort to remove the manufacturing infrastructure from the American scene began. A decline hastened and facilitated by both Reagan and Bush.
Just because these people call themselves capitalists doesn't mean they even understand the word, because they don't. No more than the wearing of a flag pin suddenly magically endows one with Nationalistic pride because it doesn't.

Israel defends use of flesh-eating weapon

The people who call themselves Jews Israeli or whatever instead of Human beings are now commiting as bad or worse crimes than where commited against the people sent to gas chambers including some Jews during world war two.

Rothchild's the most wealthy family in the world openly say they are Jewish. They are proud of it. But that is just there DNA background and if they believe the bible we are all from the same DNA originally so if your proud of someting be proud of your morals and principles which do not have to be tied to some branch of the human family.

        Or this?

    • Posted By: Zig Zag @ 03/26/2009 6:51:21 PM

And exactly what does this have to do with AIG bonuses?

  • Posted By: Zig Zag @ 03/26/2009 7:07:28 PM

I am just as outraged as everyone else about these bonuses, but it is the reaction on Congress that outrages me the most. All those pompus windbags trying to out do each other with regard to their level of outrage. How about taking a little accountability for a change? They are the ones that passed out the money with no strings attached.

The Democrats howl in outrage, with the doofus Barney Frank at the head of the pack - what a joke. And then the Republicans try to take the high ground and claim they had a provision in the stimulus bill to prevent this but it got taken out of the bill. Another joke. Guess what, it should have been taken out of the bill.

One of the cornerstones of our culture is a deal is a deal, and if you negotiate a bad one, you still have to live with it. And that is exactly what Congress did - they negotiated a bad deal, but rather then hold themselves accountable for it, they are going to blame everyone else.

I voted for Obama because I thought he was a strong leader, and I think he is. But leadership does not start and stop with the President. Members of Congress need to show some leadership too. And they are not - and that criticism is leveled at both Democrats and Republicans.

The only answer to the current debacle is complete failure of the system because these so-called derivitives that started the whole thing (not the housing bubble that's just what they want you to think) these derivitives where put forth by the very companies now profiting from the bailouts. So just wipe it all out and start over. The derivities where just gambling peices chips in a game that has failed miserably and why have the people who created the game continue to profit from there greed just greed.

Do you even realize that many of these executives were brought in after the fall to fix that unit. In fact, the man who heads up the unit was brought over from Merrill and guess what yes, you have to give him money in order for him to take the job since he is good enough to go somewhere else. Who would go there now? You own the company, it is losing value everyday. You can't blame Matt Lauer, who is getting ratings and making money for NBC, for the problems GE is having in their financial unit. Would it make sense not to pay him and then have him go to ABC? No, you would end up hurting the division that is making money! This is a conglomorate and there is plenty of good business units there that are now going to lose value because of the demonization of the parent. This FP unit is a fly speck on the Company as a whole but if we keep this up the whole company goes down along with all value the taxpayer could possibly reap from a sale. Your lack of understanding of how business works is fine, the problem is that Congress shares your ignorance.

hmmmm....most of these people were put together by ACORN using taxpayer money to rent buses....and most do not even pay taxes. while i too am disturbed why are not these people complaining about the bonuses that are going to be paid to Freddie Mac executives?? How about the shady dealings of Barney Frank....Charlie Wrangel's tax cheating...Senator Dodd's wife works for AIG in Bermuda which is a tax write off....and how about Maxine Water's investment in a black bank that got bailout funds from her and her husband is an employee of that bank....look folks it is bigger than AIG

Attributing the economic improvements to the Obama administration, congress or any one group of people is simply not reasonable - and reason is something that has been in short supply because everyone's "mad." Looking for some one (or someones) to blame is as counterproductive as looking for an economic savior (i.e. Obama). We are all responsible for the mess we're in and we'll all have a part to play in fixing it. If you invested in a fund you didn't understand because you didn't read the prospectus, you are partly to blame if your 401K has tanked. If you overbought on your house speculating that property values would increase forever, you are partly to blame. Congress and the current/previous administrations shares the blame for not enforcing the laws that are already in place, hastily crafting new policies without thinking them through...

The fact is there are A LOT of moving parts of our economy. Some percentage of the recovery might be attributable to the stimulus plan, or the treasury's moves, or whatever, but some of the recent improvements would likely have taken place if congress were out of session and Obama was on vacation. Correlation is not causation people...

The problem with capitalist is that it is based on greed and it has no soul. That is why, the system continue asking for money, money and more money, it can't tolerate losses. It has come to stage where it holds the government hostage and repressing the population.Capitalism failed because the system did not even conceive of the possibility of losing.

BTW-dont refer to the past administration as murdering liars until you READ
"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
--President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process."
-Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

"Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies."
-- Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."
    -- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security."
    -- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
    -- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction."
    -- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002

"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real..."
    -- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

And then there is the Iraqi General who writes now that there were 56 flights of civilian airliners that the seats were removed and the planes loaded with MWD's which were then flown to Syria under the guise of humanitarian aid following the collapse of a dam caused mass civilian casualties in Syria.

We're winning the war on terror, as we and the allies have completely disrupted Al Qaeda and the Taliban. The result is we haven't been attacked in almost eight years. I know you want to get OBL, as we all do. However, he is as slick as he is cowardly, and knows the only place he can hide is in Pakistan. OBL knows Obama, or any other president won't invade an ally to get him. He has been rendered ineffective, and lives probably lives what pathetic life he has cowering under a hijab. This is all assuming he's still alive.

In the end, like you I'd rather us get our hands on OBL, but until we do, I'll gladly settle for what we have.

      Also-

Israel obtained 100-500 tons of yellowcake in 1968 in a secret operation called "Operation Plumbat".

Saddam was alleged to have obtained yellowcake. Colin Powell believed this.

So, if Saddam really had nukes, they're either buried in Iraq, or, if the transport-to-Syria theory is true, we should add Syria to Israel on the list of the world's undeclared (and irresponsible) nuclear powers.

    • Posted By: nimodahooligan @ 03/23/2009 3:29:00 PM

      sooo....

found those WMD yet? you know the ones, the biological weapons, nuclear weapons, ANY kind of weapon besides the M-16s that we sold to them in the first place?

no? still looking huh.... yea, theres alot of desert to sift through for eight years i suppose...

      • Posted By: bkrummel @ 03/23/2009 4:35:45 PM

I don't think the point is whether or not there were WMDs. The point is that everyone wants to punish the Republicans for being "murdering liars" when both the Republican and Democrats were "murdering liars". Even then, Still Free mentioned an Iraqi General that claims some knowledge of actual WMDs and Still Free backed up his claim by leaving a link. If you want to complain about WMDs not being found, be sure to blame everyone who claimed their were WMDs. And if you are going to ask if "found those WMD yet?", make sure to respond to any claims that WMDs were found. Try engaging in a rational conversation rather than blindly blaming Bush over WMDs.

        • Posted By: LIMPbaugh @ 03/23/2009 5:55:57 PM

To group the Democrats in with the BushCheney/Rice gang is not credible. the Democrats and many of the GOP were fed manufactured evidence with which to base their decisions on. The difference between the Dams and the reps is that when it became known that there were no WMDs and that the evidence to justify the invasion of Iraq was cooked up by Bush/Cheney/Rice, the Republicans chose to aid and abet the lies and coverup. the Democrats did not.

  • Posted By: Vigilance @ 03/25/2009 9:50:27 AM

I know this is off topic, but man, I finally agree with those who said Saddam had WMDs, then transferred them to Syria. Where did that yellowcake go, anyway?

Israel, if you're watching - be more worried about Syrian nukes than Iranian ones.

Scumbama continues his deception, duping and exploitation of Americans. The sheep will keep following until they are standing in KFC, Star Kist Tuna and watermelon lines. Then maybe they'll pull their heads outta their arses? Maybe?

The scum bum criminals on Wall Street and Corruption Hill are destroying America? They are professionals thieves so don't try this at home. Just keep sending all your money to Corruption Hill for the criminals to distribute to their criminal friends.

Obama culivates outrage every time he insists 'we inherited this mess'. Nazis inherited a mess and proposed the final solution. Leadership becomes immoral when it follows outrage. If Obama wants to lead then he needs to propose reasonable solutions to the problems our nation faces, not blame others for creating the problems. He is abdicating his office every time he states, 'we inherited this mess'.

If this was a boxing match, it would be stopped. everything President Obama has done has worked and the GOP is coming off as a second rate withering party of hate. It seems certain that the economy will be better in 2010 and even better in 2012 despite the GOP's blockade and whimpering. Sob, sob, we weren't included in the bill. boo hoo, we didn't get our ammendments in. I predicted long ago that the Republican party would be confined to a states that covet the hate votes of those like the neo-nazis and the KKK and that the GOP would, for all practical purposes, be relegate to minor 3rd party status bo 2024. I'm going to go out on a limb and move that date forward to 2020 now.

    • Posted By: Abots22 @ 03/24/2009 10:08:25 AM

Limp - "It seems certain that the economy will be better in 2010 and even better in 2012." If this is true, how can you attribute any of that to what Obama has done so far? Not $1 of the "stimulus" has been spent yet and the overwhelming majority of it won't be spent until after 2010. Do you mean to suggest that the economy is correcting itself? Or maybe the $350 billion of TARP that has been used is really working?

      • Posted By: TruthForward @ 03/25/2009 9:11:21 AM

Obama is spreading hope as usual. Also, the bailouts is said to keep the economy afloat long enough for a recovery of hopefulness. Also, Obama will have 100 billion surplus left in bailout funds.

Populism always exists. It only becomes noticeable when the public decides that their government is not representing them. What is happening now is that the government (ALL of government, not any one party or just one person) is now acting on their own agenda, not that of the people. Congress and the Administration jump on the the bonus scandal mainly in order to divert the public attention from the fact that they spend our money in a bill that they did not even read; that the bonus payments were protected by a clause in the bill that only Sen. Dodd knew was there (and he denied responsibility before being forced to acknowledge that he approved it). There is a reason that Congress exempted themselves from application of the RICO statutes. The only reason that they passed laws making organized crime illegal was that they did not want the compeitiion. Every one of them should be defeated and replaced by new people when they run for re-election...And, by the way, Jon Stewart is no Will Rogers.
