    History is replete with totalitarian civilizations building great monuments to themselves. Ancient Rome and Nazi Germany come to mind. Now that they have emerged on the world stage, China is just one more example of this. The expectation that these structures were going to pay for themselves over time was a little disingenuous at best.

    not to worry, the chinese has tons of money to burn, whereas for us, we are still borrowing to pay for our useless expenditures on the war.

    China could use the pool for fish-farming and the main stadium for raising goats -- until these facilities collapse. This would be culturally syntonic, too. You see, no problem is insurmountable for this people!

    Please mail this story to the architects and seek their expert advice. After all they collected millions in fees to generate these meaningless and wasteful structures. Here again China was misled by Western experts.
