I think so many Americans beleive that homosexuality is some kind of phenomenom in our country caused by everything from broken ofamilies to what people see on TV.
There are really people who think people choose to be gay because they grow up in our culture which isn't as "morally" strict.
They don't seem to understand that gay people exist in every country and in every culture throughout the world..and throughout history.
There was recently a story about a gay young man in the UK from Iran who was in danger of being sent back because the British government didn't seem to thnk that the punishments that the government in Iran metes out to people even suspected of being gay was worthy of asylum...even though they knew that his partner in Iran and another teenager had been tortured and hanged.
Again, thank you for your story. Congratulations on your escape to a life where you are allowed to love without lying. Hopefully one day..everyone will be free to do the same.

Interesting to note how hatred thrives regardless the progress made in a society. This will not change until society transistions to valuing human life vs. control at any cost, using force and utilmate destruction for those who are different from norm of society. Sexuality is a very complex issue and no one can determine for someone else what they must think or believe. How can we know what a gay man or women may be thinking, feeling or the trauma they may have experienced because they are wired differently from the norm. This is one of the greatest sins of mankind to impose their values and demand compliance at any cost. I can only hope as a society, we can act with far more humanness and civility. Believe what you may, the turth is that we are far more alike than we are different. And those differences need to be understood with compassion, education and awareness. Not hated because of our own fears and ignorance!

I don't think it's easier for us to get it, I think it's just that for a long time, gay men were far less careful than they are now. While it's still a problem in the community, I don't think that it is nearly as much of one as it used to be. It is sick in so far as, for a long time, no one was as careful as they should have been, and they paid the price.

Yes. It is easier for a man being sodomized to contract HIV because anal sex often means tearing tissue and opening blood vessels. THat is why HIV passes to them easier. Due to blood donation restrictions, it is nearly a neglible risk to get HIV from a blood transfusion that is surgury related. Also, heterosexual couples who don't engage in IV drug use are not at risk either. It happens, but very, very rarely, perhaps in 2-3% of cases. You can look these stats up at the CDC or many other HIV/AIDS awareness websites.

I thought the story was funny personally, then reading the comments I laughed some more. People argue over the lamest things backing it up with the same old story and reasoning. As I posted earlier, there are stark differences between homosexuality and pedophillia and incest. With homosexuality there are two consenting adults, who understand the ramifications of their actions. There is no abuse of power, for the most part. With pedophilia, there is only one adult and no real consent. A child is not mature enough to understand the act or it's consequences, and there is generally an abuse of power. As for incest, again, my relationship will not lead to a child with massive issues due to inbreeding. Which is, indeed, my only real problem with it. You are right about society. We are heading towards a point where two consenting adults can have a relationship. I do not think that pedophilia will ever be acceptable, nor do I think incest will ever become overly acceptable, again because of the issue with what would happen to the child. Outside of that, why should it matter to you who is in what relationship? So long as it has no ramifications on your life, it really shouldn't.

If you really read the Bible and understand that context of the message at the time it was written, the Sodom and Gomorra story is more about brutality and humiliation than lust. You can find this as actual fact that in those day's men raped other men to assert their dominance and as a way to humiliate the one being raped. It was a very common practice for those at war to do. And as to why they were destroyed, I'm sure God had a longer list and a few more reasons than homosexuals (Greece would't exist if it where). True, the spoils go to the victor, however, that wasn't a battle. it was visitors to the city and they would have no right for their actions, the fact they wanted the men instead of the women just baffles me and most people who read the story. I wasn't actually trying to mention or bring out a terrible ending, I was just noting on the progression (or degression, however you view it) of the society as a whole. I like your view on polygamy as well, I had never really thought of it. Personally, my wife is enough for me to handle, I would be scared to have more than one. Really, the same view goes with taxes and laws just as well with the government. If you allow them to add a new tax claiming it is a sin tax, then jack that up, what therefore allows them to put a "recreation" tax on something like bowling. If they are allowed to pass a law preventing people from smoking in public, what will the next law passed be, preventing one from talking on a cell phone in there car. I know some would like that as there is a cause for it, but where does it end? Tax 90% of AIG's bonuses, what now prevents them from taxing 90% of your bonus next year due to the government's cause and helpfullness to getting our economy out of the dumpster, therefore they need our money to recooperate. I think a lot of the argument over gay rights is everyone is scared of the consequences if the other side wins. It is just interesting how in the past 40 years it evolved the way it has. By the way, anymore one could almost argue (even if it is wrong) against you on the issue of convincing 8 yr olds to have sex. Look at the clothes a lot wear anymore and the writing on their shirts. maybe not 8y.o. but 12yo. I know. It's scary. I'm not even going to bother argueing wth the 5th grade crap. Although the victor of war thing is interesting, I had never heard that, I know killing all survivors was practiced regularly along with raping the women but had always assumed all the men were just killed.

Who am I to pass judgement? I am one of those people who is being relegated to the second class citizenry because of the bigoted beliefs that some of the "Christians" who have posted on here have. While I do not judge all Christians based on these comments, I do judge those who try to condemn me. And unfortunately, those are the ones who get all of the attention in the world. Why should your theoritical future possibilities trump my theortical possiblities? Why should your religious ideas stand in the way of my enjoying the same rights as any other citizen of this country? Do I not pay taxes, and perform any other civic duty that is my responsibility as an American citizen? Then why do I not enjoy the same rights and privileges that you do?
I judge you because I have no laws telling me that I cannot. I judge you because you honestly believe that without the Bible, we would still be running around killing other and who know's what else. I judge you because you have so little faith in the human race as a whole that you honestly believe that without your faith, we would be lost as a civilization. I do not need a book to guide me and if I did, it would be something that makes far more sense, has fewer plot holes, and is quiet honestly much better written.
That book would be "If you give a mouse a cookie." But you do not seem telling you that we must live by the laws presented in my holy book, you do not see me trying to tell you that if you give a mouse a cookie, it will also want a glass of milk. So please, stop trying to spread the word to me. You have every right to your religion, and I have every right to live without it.
