oh this is a crappy story -this guy is a pervert himself -there must be gays and lesbians practicing sex all over the globe -the toilets and parks in the west are full of these perverts and gay bashings and murders are common FROM EGYPT TO KANSAS -AND CLAPHAM TO SAO PAOLO

what happened to jakes character in texas in brokeback mountain -

i have never ever seen any gay couples who meet each other except to have dinner or to discuss who they should have a threesome with next -that of course is if they ever stick together -

homosexuality iseems to be a severe psychological affliction that just drives both men and women to seek what they do not have as if the grass is greener always on the other side of the pasture -

the more they have the more they want and being a married guy i find they are extremely attracted to married men who they think are not available to them -lolz

even at work i find they leave messages on the windshield of my car with their contacts -lolz
this guy is surely another promiscuous gay man who goes to orgies and indulges in every other sex fetish that makes the gays tick as if we do not know their lifestyle in the liberated western so called culture -
they are welcome to spread HIV TO each other -as the incidence of new hiv infections has risen steadily ,but please stop involving islam or pakistan in your filthy homo-erotic practices .
he can fist *** or bare back anyone in manhattan -why does he have to tell a rotten absurd tale about karachi parks in this venue .
disgusting and totally immoral man -i wish he had beeen shot point blank as then this profanity would not have been printed by newsweek
    LOLZ

Wow. First, let me say that I am happy the gentleman in the story was not harmed and has found happiness in a more tolerant society. Second, let me also say that I am a strong believing Christian. I think the Bible is very clear on these things. First, homosexuality is wrong in God's eyes. However, it is no more wrong than any other sin, i.e. premarital sex, theft, greed, etc, etc. The next thing that the Bible clearly tells us is the lesson that Christians tend to get messed up on, and that is to love the sinner even as God loved us as sinners. Being a Christian doesn't make us non-sinners, it just makes us forgiven for those sins. Christians are still human and still sin. The point is that we seek reconciliation with God for those sins. With that in mind, condemnation really shouldn???t be our bag, but we should be focusing on letting others know how much God loves them. And I believe the way to do that is to love them without judgments.

I have many friends that are homosexuals, and all of them know my beliefs. That doesn't mean we can't be friends. It doesn't mean that we can't hang out. It simply means that we different beliefs.

By the way, I think if Jesus was to come to Earth today, he wouldn't be hanging out in the beautiful churches on Sunday morning. I think he would head directly to meet people that are hurting. Homeless shelters, bars, street corners, gay communities, straight communities, etc ??? anywhere there was someone hurting who needs God???s love.... Or at least that's what he did the last time he was on Earth.

And one final thought for the atheist, why do you care so much? If you truly believe there is no God, than you must think me to be very silly and simple minded. So why do so many of you dedicate your life to spewing hate and venom towards Christians? Why not just view us as another group of miss-lead people that should be pitied? And why should you save your hate and INTOLERANCE for Christianity? Why not share those feelings with other religious groups such as Muslims or Jews? Why has it become the norm in America to be tolerant of anything and everything...except Christianity? In other words, if your message is peace, tolerance, and acceptance of differing opinions, then maybe you should practice what you preach the same way that Christians should... Huh?

Woops, I mispelled pedophile, I better say something before the spelling police close in for the kill.

  • Posted By: woodj @ 03/27/2009 10:54:47 AM

This poor guy should be pitied. He is not a criminal, any more than a Schizophrenic is a criminal. He is mentally ill. That is what homosexuality is. It is a perverted fetish behavior. Just like a person with a foot fetish can hardly stop himself from thinking about feet. Or the pedifile is attracted to little boys. Obviously there is no pedophile gene. And there is no homosexual gene. These poor confused people are the product of their environment. It is terrible that countries like Saudi Arabia incarcerate these poor mentally ill people.

Good for you! Consider yourself lucky for being able to come out from a country and religion that is terribly anti-gay. I too am a gay man who was once married to a woman (part of my denial) but I was fortunate enough to be born in the US, as well as in the NY metro area, where being gay is more tolerated. It's been 5 years since I came out, have since married my male partner and adopted 3 awesome children. Our familes, friends, employers and community have shown great support to all of us. At one time I thought I would never be able to live a true happy life, but I was fortunate enough to find that closet door. Congrats again to you and I wish you all the best.

And they call Christians intolerant. There is a glaring difference here. THe so-called Christians who harass and torment gays and lesbians are not practicing their faith but by and large they are in the monority. In Pakistan and other wholly Muslim countries, the majority are the intolerant when it comes to homosexuality. This man cannot go home to his own country or he could die. One of the best things about this country is my feelings about his sexuality are irrelevant. My feelings about his choice of beliefs are irrelevant as well. I wish him the best and a safe and peaceful life here. Welcome to America.

Well ???likeitis??? I guess if you believe in a God you can believe that garbage that you have typed out for all to see. Speaking as a homosexual who was raised Southern Baptist & Pentecostal; it frightens me to see someone who seems educated enough to make a remark in such an ignorant manner. Set down your God and look at the facts, God made me as I am. So if what I am is wrong then God made me that way. But I realize that your God doesn???t make mistakes. That???s why green-eyed people are freaks of nature also. Having green eyes is "not natural but an anomaly within nature." Does this make everyone in the world with green eyes are a "freak" of nature? Does "God" dislike green-eyed people because it is an anomaly that he did not create? Please open your green eyes to reality. If you believe in "God," then you should also believe that he has created a lot of anomalies within nature. Don't you think that maybe attention should be placed on thieves, rapists and murders, for these are some threatening anomalies? "God" has created many things and like it or not homosexuals are on that great list. Maybe this comment makes you sick, repulsed and your head spins around like Linda Blair's on "The Exorcist." Homosexuality is here, and there is nothing anybody can do to change that fact. Maybe you good readers can dip down into the kindness of your hearts and accept this fact. This does not mean you have to like it, but you don't have to persecute others for it either.

What gets me is we face the same arguments now that we did ten, twenty, even thirty years ago, by and large. The argument that irks me the most is the one that compares homosexuality to bestiatlity, incest, or pedohilia. The biggest difference, at least between homosexuality and pedohilia or bestiatlity is that there are two consenting adults involved. No one is forced into anything, and by and large it is not an abuse of trust and power. We are mature enough to understand the consequences of our actions.

As for Incest, there is another huge difference. You can move on, not having relations with a family member, and find someone new to love as your spouse. I cannot ever love a woman as I would love my husband. I'm stuck with men. On top of that, my relationship isn't going to lead to a child with massive birth defects and other problems that will come up later in life due to inbreeding.

That whole thing aside, we have got to start mobilizing as a community. So often I hear people in the gay community saying that they want change, that they want rights, that they want to feel safer and more accepted, but are unwilling to do anything about it. I'm trying to get a group going in my city, but trying to get people organized here is like pulling teeth. If we really want equal rights and treatment, to be more accepted, and not live in fear of situations like what happened to the author of this article, we must start speaking out more, we must start marching, and we must learn how to overcome the objections that people have to allowing us the same rights that they enjoy.

the reason we have sexual lusts is to procreate, the reason it is pleasurable is so it entices us to do it. The survival of our species is the ultimate reason we need to be sexual. There is only one style of mating that binds our dna in a way to bring new life, that is hetero mating. All other matings are wasteful and self serving and ultimately serve no purpose in the big picture. This is why all cultures frown on homsexuality, pedophilia, beatiality and any othe "ality" that cannot produce new humans.

    • Posted By: November Squish @ 03/27/2009 10:18:49 AM

A_Father, fortunately, you are completely wrong. The latest research in homosexuality indicates its a "side effect" of other successful evolutionary traits. Claiming sex is simply for the purpose of breeding (which many HETERO people don't even do) is a simplistic, easy way to JUDGE, and nothing more. Btw, religious mindsets in man are ALSO considered a "side effect" of other successful evolutionary traits. Not to compare homosexuality or religion to a disease, but its the point of Sickle Cell Anemia evolving in Malaria plagued areas. Those with one SCA trait (rather than the 2 it takes to have the full disease) are PROTECTED against the far-more-deadly (in numerical terms) Malaria. Though we don't know exactly why religion or homosexuality evolved the way they did, just because they SEEM anti-sensical does not mean they don't have sensical purposes we haven't yet identified.

In other words... laymen shouldn't make statements they don't understand. At the root of the matter, it simply isn't your business who other people love. Seriously, people are just way too nosy.

    • Posted By: Vigilance @ 03/27/2009 9:56:43 AM

Not meaning to be too offensive here, but I frown on breeders who don't understand that the world is in grave danger of ecological catastrophe from the carbon and other forms of pollution all us new humans are putting out. Having kids is not the holy mandate that it used to be. :P

    • Posted By: justsomeguy @ 03/27/2009 9:54:32 AM

Then I would recommend that you eat only bread and salads and drink water. It's all you really need to survive. Anything else is just pleasurable, and wasteful. Oh, and really, you don't need to own anything. Again, pleasure and waste. Just rent a small shack, don't worry about books or tv or music. And hey, let's not forget clothes. You really don't need much in the way of clothes to survive. Socks, shoes, undergarments, all needless. Just tie some burlap bags to your feet. Let's make a full list of things that we don't really need, that are just wasteful, and then you can eliminate them from your life. I however, will continue to waste my time with the more pleasurabe things in life.

What a touching story. Thanks to the author for writing it. It should help people to understand how difficult it sometimes is to be a little different from the mainstream. It also explains to the readers why it is so important not to judge and not to hate people who may not be exactly like us. All human life if valuable and precious and should be respected. Thanks for writing the article. PS I am an old woman who is straight, but not narrow.

reading the posts here, it is clear that there are some who refuse to accept the fact that it is GOD who declares homosexuality as a sin. furthermore, devout Muslims, Orthodox Jews and true Christ followers who believe in God follow God's laws. It is SIN that God hates, not sinners.

as a conservative Christ follower, I do not hate people. nor do I 'fear' homosexuals as the twisted term 'homophobe' might suggest. what i object to is being forced to condone sinful behavior under man's twisted laws when it is GOD who says the behavior is sinful.

the problem with other religions such as Islam and Buddism is that Mohammed and Budda are dead. Jesus Christ died, was buried three days, and is now alive, seated at the right hand of God.

Prove it. Get your Messiah to descend from heaven and fix the world's various and manifest problems and I'll renounce my bisexuality.

If you don't have the power to do that, take your religious intolerance and shove it out the hole you crap from. Sorry to be so blunt.

    • Posted By: aRealAtheist @ 03/27/2009 9:20:50 AM

Of course the great fallacy of most of these religious posts against homosexuality is the belief in religion itself. The belief in an unprovable, unknowable dictum based on a time when people had no understanding of the natural world around them and where the unknowable had to be explained by the unreal. The fact that everything about your God fairy tale is unprovable, for me invalidates any religious argument against Homosexuality. Prove with quantifiable evidence that god exists then I would give your argument credence, until then your arguments are nothing but bigoted angry rants against a lifestyle and point of view you hate.

    • Posted By: justsomeguy @ 03/27/2009 9:18:30 AM

As a non-believing atheist, why should I be forced to condone your God's twisted law. There are far too many belief systems out there for us to have to try to match our laws to each one. And while it's true that the majority of this country is still Christian, that is changing more and more every year. More and more people are turning away from God's laws, becoming atheists, agnostistics, or simply following spirituality that does not involve church or the bible. Maybe we are entering into a new age of enlightenment?

    • Posted By: lisaslife @ 03/27/2009 8:49:29 AM

Wow, you religious people are total qacks. Maybe go take a history lesson. Find out where the proclamations that you are spewing out to be from "god" really came from.

  • Posted By: zaksgrandma @ 03/27/2009 8:43:54 AM

Oh what will make people leave others to they choices. We have no right to impose our values on anyone. We must come to the point in human history to treat all with the respect we ourselves want. This is need a sad story,At least it has a happy ending for this man and his family.

Inshallah this guy will find some peace. I'm not Muslim, but I have a bit of Lebanese among my various and manifest ancestries and do study a bit of Arabic, and I'm firmly committed to trying to end the hate against both gays and Muslims. This man has a tough road - but it sounds like he has the courage to walk it.

The point so often missed by those who would compare homosexuality to pedophilia or bestiality is this: acts of physical intimacy shared between consenting adults, adults who, under ideal circumstances, are armed with experience, maturity, reason, and enough wisdom to make a conscious decision to share themselves with another, is completely distinguishable from an adult, armed with superior knowledge, size, strength, etc., forcing him/herself, sexually, upon an animal or a child, either of which do not possess the emotional and/or psychological development or intelligence to consent to such an act.

While we're on this subject, for those of you who believe it is such a sin to be gay, consider this scenario. Assume you are a straight man. If you were to wake up tomorrow in a woman's body, and there is no way for you to go back to being a man, at least in the physical sense, would you choose to live out your life as a straight man trapped in a woman's body, or would you disregard your innate sexual orientation and limit your sexual pursuits to members of the opposite sex, even though that would make you straight on the outside but gay on the inside? Something to think about, seriously.

    • Posted By: Vigilance @ 03/27/2009 9:41:07 AM

I think, unfortunately, that the only experience that most conservative Christians have with ACTUAL homosexuality is watching reports about pedophile priests on television, which is why they're convinced all gays and lesbians are child-molesting sex freaks.

I think they should all talk to Ted Haggard about it, personally.

It is appaling that in the 21st Century there are those ignorant phobic bigots using God's name in vain. God created us all, just as we are. Who are we go question his wisdom and his will. Yet, the rightoursly religious, the non-believer believers are always breaking the First Commandent given by God to Moses. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD tthy God in vain. (Exodus, Chapter 20, verse 7).

  • Posted By: justsomeguy @ 03/27/2009 9:29:54 AM

This is a fear that we still live with, even in this country. While it's not as big of an issue here, you never know who you can trust, and you never know what horrors someone is capable of inflicting upon you. The biggist difference is that if this happened here, you would be able to call the police and avoid being blackmailed, and not having to watch over your shoulder for this guy anymore

I'm very happy for you that you made it out of this situation with your life. And on the plus side, you and your parents seem to have gotten through it, and maybe have a closer relationship as a result. Good luck to you and your partner.

  • Posted By: gaycas @ 03/27/2009 9:28:57 AM

This is the 21st Century, and yet there are still too many people using God as an excuse for their phobias and bigotry. God created the world with all of us in it, jjust the way we are. Who are we to question his creation and his will. So many of you like the ignorant idiot tomcat praise god and yet they break are always ignoring and breaking the First Commandment given by God to Moses for all of us to obey. "Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD they God in vain. (Exodus chapter 20, verse 7). cas.

It saddens me to see the fear and ignorance in many of these posts. I am overjoyed you survived a horrible situation. That you have made peace with your family and found a partner to share your life is a true blessing. We should all be so fortunate.

As a Christian who chooses to believe the Bible as the Holy Writ of God, I have to look at the whole Word. Homosexuality is just as wrong as lying, adultery or hating your brother. That having been said, we are no better if we spew hatred from our lips toward people who are homosexual. If we truly believe the Word as true, we should pray for them and love them, not judging. It is Christ who has the power to judge and He said He did not come to condemn the world but to save it.

I am happy that you have found peace with your parents and a partner with whom you can share your life. We should all be so blessed.
