These are great, Mr. Will. For you, can you make an all star MLB team, position by position, using back to back 2 time, or more MVP winners? How about, in the history of MLB, there have been 9 players with 3 consecutive seasons (or more) or 40 plus homers, 100+ rbi, and .300 of better BA. Can you name them? Or, who are the only two members of the 500 career HR club never to win or share a single season HR title? Or, which member of the 500 career HR club never hit more that 40 dingers in a single season?

    Thanks,

    David Mink

    Mr. Will,

A wonk is someone who has too much information and uses it to drive folks crazy. In a sense we pay you with our attention. Or by purchasing the magazine or paper.

Here is a secret you should bone up on:

Then spread some remedy. Help us all, you are the press you know.

PS: the poster usakapusa had some good advice. Take it.

Am I alone in thinking that George Will has completely lost the plot in the last few months? Plots against Hitler was dubious enough, but now we get recondite sports trivia? The last page deserves better than this irrelevant tosh. Time for a new columnist, please, editors.

Hey George! Great article! If you're wanting to read about sports trivia, but I subscribed to Newsweek for cutting edge News, and Commentaries. In the future, if you find yourself at a loss for writing something news worthy, please pass the assignment onto somebody who isn't. If I wanted to read about sports, I would buy an issue of "Sports Illistrated", instead of Newsweek!

Wonderful article, George. It reminded me of the wild, strange, heartbreaking songs found on last year's Baseball Project record. A supergroup of sorts, Scott McCaughy, Steve Wynn, Peter Buck and Linda Pitmon wrote and recorded 13 songs about baseball, or America. Filled with the minutia and detail found in your article, and recorded with love and narrative that's truly amazing. I think you'd totally love it. They're on Yep Roc???look 'em up.

George, this is a wonderful article. Did you hear The Baseball Project record last year? It featured baseball-themed songs by a "supergroup" including Scott McCaughey, Steve Wynn, Peter Buck and Linda Pitmon. Strange, wild, wonderful narrative driven songs that are as much about America as baseball???filled with the minutia and detail of which your article reminded me. I think you'd love it.

At first I said, "Geez, George, showing off again." As I read the questions, I was hooked by how arcane they were, even for a baseball wonk. The quiz was so engaging that I flipped back and forth writing down the answers. When I got to #50 I whooped out loud (the only way to whoop). Fanastic play -- but when and which teams? So much fun I've logged onto the web site just to thank you for it.

First I thought, geez, George, you're showing off again. As I started reading the questions, I was hooked by how arcane they were, even for a baseball wonk. So engaging, that I took a pen and flipped back and forth to write the answers. When I got to #50, I whooped out loud (the only way to whoop). Fantastic story! But when and who was playing? Thanks

A.J. Burnett also threw a nine walk, no-hit shut out, in 2001 as a member of the Marlins
