Many industries were over leveraged by the masterminds on Wall Street beyond any rational business plan. It is what they do. Their purpose is to loot these companies for personal gain, not to operate them for the benefit of employees, shareholders and communities. This is another example of the urgent need to regulate the financial industry, and the boardrooms of public companies so that destruction for profit is no longer so lucrative. The newspaper industry will only survive if it can be protected from the merger, aquisition and liquidation business.

PART 2 DO HAVE A NUT CASES ON OUR HANDS
This deficiency renders the narcissist and psychopath rigid. They don't bond - they become dependent (on narcissistic supply, on drugs, or adrenaline rushes). They seek pleasure by manipulation at any expense to others which includes destroying them. Consequently, psychopaths feel no remorse when they hurt or defraud others. They don't possess even the most rudimentary conscience. They rationalize their (often criminal) behavior and intellectualize it. Psychopaths fall prey to their own primitive defense mechanisms (such as narcissism, splitting, and projection). The psychopath firmly believes that the world is a hostile, merciless place, prone to the survival of the fittest. The psychopath projects his own vulnerabilities, weaknesses, and shortcomings unto others and forces them to behave the way he expects them to (this defense mechanism is known as "projective identification"). Like narcissists, psychopaths are abusively exploitative.
A Narcissistic psychopath are particularly ill-suited to participate in the give and take of civilized society. Many of them are misfits or criminals. They are likely to be deceitful, use aliases, constantly lying, fraudulent, and use con-artistry for gain or self-indulgence.
Psychopaths are irresponsible and unreliable. They do not honor contracts, undertakings, and obligations. They are unstable and are vindictive and hold grudges. They never regret or forget a thing. They are driven, and dangerous. These above described Psychiatric mental/emotional disorders describe OBAMA- as most politicians especially most democrats and some republicans in congress and other places of authority..(states) Obama???s presence as our supposed President of this country, Commander-in Chief of the Armed Forces, needs to have their mental ability to occupy the White House and congress resptively- challenged on the mental disorders that he and others exhibits as described above. Under these conditions described above they could be very well be considered mentally incompetent. That would explain a lot about Obama and congress! they need to made subject to Psychiatric examination. As far as his proof of eligibility goes- we need to just go get his guarded documents-period!

DO HAVE A NUT CASES ON OUR HANDS PART 1
A Narcissistic personality disorder is a condition characterized by an inflated sense of self-importance and an extreme preoccupation with one's self. This person does not care about things that don???t elevate their ego.
A person with narcissistic personality disorder:
    · Takes advantage of others to achieve own goals
    · Has feelings of self-importance
    · Exaggerates achievements and talents
    · Is preoccupied with fantasies of success and power
    · Has unreasonable expectations of favorable treatment
    · Requires constant attention and admiration
    · Lacks empathy (see below)
Narcissists and as well as psychopaths lack empathy. The same applies to people with other personality disorders, notably the Schizoid, Paranoid, Borderline

    What is Empathy?
Normal people use a variety of abstract concepts and psychological constructs to relate to other persons. Emotions are such modes of inter-relatedness. Narcissists and psychopaths are different. Their "equipment" is lacking. They understand only one language: self-interest. Their inner dialog and private language revolve around the constant measurement of utility. They regard others as mere objects, instruments of gratification, and representations of functions. Cont-d in part 2

I wonder how many of these failures were involved in the slobbering love affair with Obama and their biased reporting. Nevertheless, as has been said"Stupid is what stupid does". Another cliche could be added to the previous "What goes around comes around". Ever since Obama was elected by a dumbed-down electorate and being sworn in as an USURPER there hasn't much of anything that has gone well for this country alone. Let's face it folks this country, for the most part, in one way or another has turned it's back on God all to long and now is He's on vacation somewhere in the vast universe...He has left us to ourselves. That being so, when we fully wake up and reverse this self-destructive behavior-we are doomed. We as Americans have to get our ship on an even course to Godly Principles and live Them..In other words we have to really prove our selves to be worth of His help. We can start by Getting rid of unresponsive politicians with Obama being the first. Our country has sold each and every one of us out. WE need to just go get those records he has had sealed-Red tape can tie one in knots-so we skip the red tape. This issue of Obama;s eligibility and his resultant financial, disastrous decisions and those of his crony congress is sending us down the tube. Either we do something now or prepare ourselves for slavery to a New World Order. Drastic problems call for drastic measures. WE NEED TO JUST GO GET THOSE RECORDS AT THE COLLEGES HE ATTENDED AS WELL AS WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE HIS COLB AND NOT THAT PHONE Y BIRTH CERTIFICATE THAT HAWAII ISSUES FOR FOREIGNERS. END THE FED. i HAVE DISCOVERED AN INTERESTING ARTICLE i WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU. i 'LL POST IT NEST. READ IT REAL WELL AND SEE HOW IT DESCRIBES OBAMA AND HIS CRONY DEMOCRATS IN CONGRESS. iT APPEARS AFTER i READ IT- "WE HAVE PSYCHOLOGICAL MISFITS RUINING OUR GOVERNMENT. THAT WOULD EXPLAIN WHY THEY ALL ACT SO DOPED UP.

Newspapers, NBC<CBS<ABC< MSNBC etc.. are all dying for lying. They withhold the truth and report their liberal slant.
Classic example when the Bush daughters had their alcohol problems they splashed it all over the national news until they were told it was out of bounds. Where is their coverage on Joe Biden's coke snorting daughter? Where was the coverage and investigation into Barack Obama's crack smoking? In fac where was any investigation into him at all. These venues spent their time fabricating and trying to destroy Sarah Palin because they viewed her as a threat to Obama winning. These media outlets gave up their independence long ago yet they attack Fox News for being right wing? Fox is the only objective news organization left and their ratings show it. Sure they have Sean Hannity's show but MSNBC has Keith Ulbermann, Phil Donahue, Letterman etc.. spewing the GOP hate talking points. But when you watch the actual news Fox is fair objective and honest and they report their competitors dishonesty and liberal leaning news coverage.

writing will never be obsolete as long as humanity matters -and the word is essential for the world if it does not want to sink into stone age itself -which america or parts of the united states already resemble in many aspects

Aside from these anecdotal blunders, I think the papers have always been too cozy with big biz, and as such, this branch of the media, among others
has come across as an arm of the establishment. Let me offer a better model. Car and Driver, which has always been the top automobile magazine, has never been in the business of blowing smoke in order to stay on anyone's good side, or to appear patriotic, or to promote any kind of agenda dear to the hearts of their management. If you wanted to buy a new car, you went to Car and Driver to get the facts. Car and Driver was years ahead of the curve on what has been wrong with American manufactured autos. Too bad the big three didn't take them seriously. Too bad the big three had their ears attuned to the bean counters. Car and Driver made it clear that Japanese cars were better. I don't remember if they ever took in advertising for the American auto companies. If so, they were not on anyone's side. The newspapers have never given their readers anything they could run with like that. If you are going in for glossy and bland BS, you have a ready made audience in the working class Republicans, who will believe anything the propaganda factories crank out, but don't try it with people who do their own thinking. I personally don't expect a publication to be "tasteful" or sober. I want the truth. I want the dirt. I want reporters on the spot when the BS is going down. Give me footage of Jeffrey Skilling pumping bits of langoustines into his face. Give me footage of the group of radicals who threw eggs, potatoes and various other missiles at the Bush motorcade when he was heading to the White House after being appointed to office by the Supreme Court. Where was the story about Bush appointing Rehnquist's daughter and Scalia's son to head up high government posts. Did you see it in your paper? I want investigative reporters out on the beat stalking the crooked rich like paparazzi on Lindsey Lohan. I want them parachuting out of helicopters wearing Leicas. Where were they for the past eight years when Bush was flushing America down the toilet? Why did I have to wait a year or so to read about it in one of the muckraker's books. Give me that kind of reporting and I'll buy your newspaper. They aren't making the crooked rich mad enough for my taste. You make Halliburton and KBR hopping mad every few days and I'll buy your newspaper. Otherwise, don't bother me.

You working class Republican morons don't have much respect for your intellectual superiors, do you? Are you trying to take over the Newsweek forum like you did Newsvine, and trash it with your meaningless drivel?

How are you two old Bush worshipping rednecks doing?

The brilliant managers of days past decided to let large advertisers place their own bid with inserts rather than pay for retail ad space. Coupled with a complete lack of vision on how to shore up losses with young readers, this has caused much of the strain. Considering that online advertising still costs $500 a month for an equivalent in print that would cost thousands per day has left a rift in the the revenue-per-reader ratio. The future was last decade. Unfortunately they missed it.

I quit taking the Detroit Free Press years ago, after hardly ever getting my paper delivered on time, or even delivered, for that matter. Then they didn't even have an 800 number to call, and it cost much more than the paper you didn't receive, in order to complain about it. I always liked the paper itself very much, but they just couldn't, or wouldn't, get the logistics right on getting it timely to their customers. There is an old, homey kind of feeling that is experienced by unfolding and holding your own newspaper, to be leafed through and read leisurely at your own pace, with some measure of eager anticipation at what you might discover inside. I will miss it, my local paper is going digital in July.

While I agree in part with the author of the article, I think he missed one of the big points of why newspapers are going under. They have given away too much for free online. Had they charged for an online subscription the same as a print subscription, they might have fared better. Why pay for what I can read for free online?

  • Posted By: AmyGray @ 04/02/2009 7:51:25 PM

Newspapers are obsolete. They get out the news too slowly, they cost too much, the news boy gets the paper on the
roof or in the snow, the paper is soaking wet too often.

There seems to be little that newspapers have to offer which isn't available online. Be it the lead story, coupons, humor or editorial, online content is more current, interactive and has the added benefit of not having the delivery and disposal cost of printed papers. Online readers have a lot more choice when it comes to the depth they wish to explore each story. Modern information technology seems to have provided access to electronic media just about everywhere, now newspapers seem like quaint artifacts from yesterday.

The reason they went broke is because the majority of them print left-leaning drival. IMHO:) It's like getting the MSNBC website delivered to your door everyday. Papers still have a place, but the people in charge of them certainly have lost most of their credibility.

  • Posted By: kerrysmithbellevue @ 04/02/2009 6:07:08 PM

It is not the "dumb managers" who are to blame here, it is the private equity firms who systematically have adopted this strategy with dozens of companies, saddling them with debt, selling off all the good assets to enrich themselves, and leaving the company completely crippled. This is a pattern that has been repeated over and over, and is, I believe, another root cause of the current recession.

  • Posted By: Omatic @ 04/02/2009 6:00:24 PM

LOL... all the examples in the story are the typical thrashings of any industry in decline... Decline causes desperation and fear... desperation and fear cause mistakes - BIG mistakes -- and mistakes attract bottom feeders. Bottom feeders win-some, lose-some, that's their game. BOTTOM LINE: Printed news, hand-delivered, DAILY is making less and less sense every day. That's the trend. I am hereby hammering yet another nail -- it's called an online post -- something that cant be done by killing a tree.

Newspaper's failed because it's easier to get your news online. There are so many media outlets now on television that there is not point in buying a newspaper for most people. I still buy a newspaper everyday, but I just like to read them for some reason. http:www.thatsworthit.com

I seldom agree with Newsweek, but they called this one like it is.

  • Posted By: jonportsmouth @ 04/02/2009 5:31:51 PM

The intellectually lazy pull out the blame it on Bush card for everything.

Newspaper media were arrogant and complacent. They owned the markets they served and they extorted money from their customers with outrageously high advertising rates. Craig introduced a "list" and single handedly killed classifieds, a major revenue source. A "monster" took all the help wanted ads. Then people started getting their information in a more timely manner and from perspectives that correspond to their individual values. As newspapers are heavily invested in printing equipment they completely missed it all. For the last decade they have taken one defensive position after another. They cut staff and took all available resources away from the remaining personnel.

Attention Newsweek staffers: You are next.
