It is amazing how many people only understand history and how it effects time from the last president. The ignorance in the US and around the world about the US, the power, Obama, the Palestinian lands, Germany, Communism is so distorted now it is almost a joke to try to argue or teach people anything. The only recommendation I have is for everyone to start from about 1850 in Europe, begin reading about how our education system was developed, how our business's became powerful, how we entered the real WWI and II, How we are destroying our own middle class through 1978 policy wars against the middle class. Wake up people and don't try to comment on things you only have an understanding of based on the TV and revised History. Better yet, go back to Rome and start there and when you get back to 2009, read it again so you can make sense. Idiots.

So much tiring BS here... Where's my Lynn Bracken? ; )

Forty4-BW-I don't know where Lynn is but I sure could use some support. Again, I'm the subject and I am embarassed.

Don't be embarresed, and don't take offense of me thinking of you as Lynn Bracken.... I had no trouble of thinking of you as Kim Basinger in that film... smart, nice, sweet, maybe a little misguided... lol... I really like the way the story ended.. You?

Pia, you are the biggest baby! I've read this thread and seen the abrupt, childish reactions you've had to someone (who's seems to have been only nice to you) for something I said! I always thought you were an immature brat here, but now you've proved it.

I guess there's no sense in asking you to grow up.

Fortunate Fox -One last comment from me to you before I leave this article...Here goes... I saw that link to a movie you posted to 40 a couple months back. One word for you. VICIOUS. Who do you think you are posting abusive garbage like that to a human being? Nothing. In addition to your viciousness, I see you as a bitter, mean, jealous, fat, old lady. Your comments to most of us here are the evidence of your character. For you to actually believe I could ever be envious of you is laughable. Do yourself a favor from now on, don't post to me any comments ever again.

              • Posted By: Fortunate Fox @ 04/25/2009 11:02:34 PM

Such an angry girl. I thought you said you had no interest in that link and had no interest in going there? Obviously, you changed your mind. Either way, you are once again incorrect. That was a beautiful song about lost love, it wasn't in any way abusive and it wasn't meant to be. (Well, maybe a little chiding) Maybe if 40 didn't act like jilted eighth grader, people wouldn't chide him so. And don't even tell me I'm the only one here at NW that does that.

Regarding your assertions that I'm vicious, bitter, fat, old, ugly and a witch... like you, I am none of those things. I had a polite exchange with Forty and it is you that became jealous. And over something I said, not him. And I see you're still blaming him for "playing games." If you're going to blame someone (though you don't have the grounds) blame me. As for "setting you up", PLEASE! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you two were committed to each other, let alone getting married. So enough of the theatrics. TTR is right enough as it is.

Well, well WannaBeFox does her MMEEEOOOWWWW! routine again. What a surprise!

You always do the same routine on Pia, MostNarcissisticallyNamedPosterEver.

                  Hiss, Hiss!

Been wondering how you picked that name.

                  Why not MostBeautifulPosterEver?

                  Why not HotBabe?

                  Why not HeyLookAtMe?

From your really lame posts everywhere, I think you should consider changing your name to IReallyAmAsStupidAsMyPosts.

                  MMEEEOOOOWWWWW! ! !

                  Hiss, Hiss!

What's your problem? What's your issue with Pia? You've never been anything but nasty, snarky to Pia, about Pia, about her friends in order to get at Pia...

Is that problem like the one that caused you to choose that narcissistic name?

That insecure name. Like you don't hear it enough, so you use it so you can think of it every post?

You lurk a lot. You certainly know by now that Pia has many friends, more than just the ones you fixate on.

So that's the problem? All the men like Pia. And most of women posters too. She's the most popular person at NW.

But no one, no one likes you. Everyone dislikes you. For all the same reasons.

                  Hiss, Hiss! ! ! !

Are you really that vicious and mean? Or are you just looking for attention, you know that really, really foxy name, and no one cares?

Someone else has a better name for you. Spotted you right off. It's a name I have said not to post, so I won't now. But it's the first name that came to my mind after I got done wondering about that insecure name you chose for yourself.

It is a name that I have never said to a woman. A few have brought it mind, reasons why that name came to be used in the first place, but I've got to say, and I dearly want you to know that if I were ever to use that word, You're The One, WhatKindofFox?

Now remember, doooo use the cat box. It's always a mess to clean up when you p!ss in your own bed...

And it really does smell badly already.

Hmmmmm. Maybe that's part of the problem...

                  Hiss, Hiss MostNarcissisticallyNamedPosterEver!

It's Superman to the rescue!!! It doesn't surprise me that you chimed in. You continually prove yourself to be a lovesick, jilted little puppy... and the regulars here know it.

You're one to comment about user names! As always, you think you know what you're talking about, and as always, you're clueless. My user name came from a character in a children's story. At least it isn't fraudulent like yours... you're no more a Republican than Barrack Obama. Your silly charade makes you look every bit as laughable as you sound, so if anyone needs to change their user name, it's you. Many here have already suggested you do so. So far, you're the only one who has suggested I change mine. And did you take a poll there 40 about who likes who here at NW? I don't need to take one to see who dislikes you... it's prominently displayed in most of the replies to your posts. "Fraudulent" is mentioned often. You are fun to watch though. TTR and Paul spank you on a daily basis, and of course, you always show up for more! (so much for being Superman)

I don't have anything against Pia, other than her tirade over a simple exchange between someone else and myself (that didn't involve her) and then calling me every name in the book. Anything prior is NW standard stuff that goes on between all of us here on opposite sides. The problem is you actually believe being "snarky" is reserved only for you and your friends.

One other thing 40... if you're noticing a smell, you might try taking a bath once in a while... I'm sure it does wonders for Unibrows like you.

I'm a co-worker of Pia's. Although I rarely post except on the Science board, I read here every sunday morning. I have seen many of your nasty remarks directed at President Obama's supporters and mostly at Pia. I have been following this little jealousy thing of yours for weeks.

Everyone who reads and posts here knows that the object of your unrequited affection has been leaving romantic messages to Pia on several articles. The messages were moved to one article in particular that no one had been to in months for privacy. You injected yourself in that conversation by posting to Pia a snarky remark that was unwarranted. What's your problem, you never been kissed?

Poor Fox, the man you love obviously wants Pia, not you. This is why you followed them around and spied on them. Take my advice, stop embarassing yourself and the man you love. You posted to Pia recently that you love him. Like I said, I read. If you're a little fuzzy about that love message, I can post that up again to refresh your memory.

It is indeed obvious who I am. I'm one of many friends Pia has. If you want friends and lovers of your own, learn how to be human.

And you might start with a little honesty Pia.

I don't read here very often therefore I cannot comment on this particular message that you say Pia made to someone. Was it to you? If not, I suggest you mind your own business, but knowing from reading you, more than likely this was taken out of context. You only continue to attack Pia over and over again because the guy you want nixed you for her. Go cry yourself a river. Then take a bath.

Stop lying. You are neither cunning nor sly. A weasel is the better name for you.

I wanted him there, no one else, that is why I posted it to him. Why were you there? What was that all about ? To get a reaction from me? Bud is nice, he's wonderful and I like him a lot. He is also a grown man. The posts here were because I was embarassed. I admit I jumped the gun. I don't like people playing games with me. Obama's big spending and increasing the size of the federal government is causing me to distance myself from the democrat party. I will not vote to send him a rubberstamp congress which means even though I have always been registered as a democrat, I am not a stupid follower who will folllow a party to destruction of our American values. I will vote to bring balance to congress and will vote for someone other than a democrat. I don't care about abortion, gay rights and all of those personal issues which should be left to each state and to each individual. We need to put a STOP to the overextension of our federal government...THIS MEANS OPPOSING Barack Obama. We need to STOP this overextension in order to preserve our American freedoms. I was happy to see the Aporil 15th Tax Tea Parties. I didn't attend the Tea Party in my area but I fully support the idea. I am sick of the federal government trying to take over all of our money and control of our personal lives. Take a look at the history of the founding of our United States. The federal government's primary mission was to protect our borders and to protect us internationally.

My God, please help us dear God...our federal government with Obama as president of the United States is becoming like a cancer. It is trying to take over every cell of our life. Those of us who descend from many generations of Americans and who understand the reality of being "born free" will fight to block this cancer from spreading before it devours us. I think this spirit in the American people will spread and block the destructive agenda Barack Obama has for this country. America will bounce back to a thriving economy because of this spirit of the American people. It will be the people who will turn our economy around...not Obama's big and wasteful spending bills. I don't think Obama will be very popular at the end of this year, and I think he will get a very different congress in the next election who will show him how bipartisanship works. The American people will show Barack Obama that we run this country!!! USA! USA! USA!

FF- Well, well if it's not Hiss, Hiss Misnomer doing her MEEEOOOOWWWWW! routine again.

I've said before that there is more blame to go around than anyone has a use for. But, by no means does that mean that I haven't researched what actually happened, who introduced legislation, who voted how, and who spent millions on lobbying to influence legislation. I started with believing what the anonymous emails said. Then I did the research to find the truth. I now know where the vast primary blame lies, and I do not let my party affiliation blind me to the truth. That is just one of the big differences between us.

So let's get straight with each other:

Only a fool believes the propaganda about what happened with our financial crisis. If you are going to stick with your proposition on blame, post the proposition and reasons, and I will make a point of responding with particulars.

Only a fool wants to blame this administration for what went wrong, or for doing what is necessary.

Only a fool is such a partisan dupe apologist as to want to forget who was president the last eight years and who controlled Congress the first six when the conditions were created that resulted in the recession we're in now.

Only a fool says, as you have to me, that Dubya and the neocons were right to prematurely invade Iraq and thereby mess up on Afghanistan.

Only a fool says, as you have to me, that Rush Limbaugh isn't a raging racist.

Well, well, Mr. BW is back. How was LA? I left you another post here, below yours.

    • Posted By: Forty4 @ 04/17/2009 9:48:43 PM

LA is as it as you would think it to be... Done with work and just left the Frolic Room after a couple of Glen Fiddich neat's....

And how is my Lynn Bracken this evening? Tangling as usual? ; )

      • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 04/17/2009 9:59:45 PM

Hi Bud. I'm doing well, thank you. I'm listening to one of my favorite rock bands.... What is the Frolic Room? A nightclub?

        • Posted By: Forty4 @ 04/17/2009 10:41:58 PM

The Frolic Room is a bar at Hollywood and Vine next to the Pantages Theater. Great old place that defines old Hollywood.

          Lynn would love it.

          • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 04/22/2009 11:14:54 AM

Old Lynn would love it but Pia would not. Remember my name is Pia.

Bud,I forgot to add to my comment below that yes, Lynn would love it. Lynn would love liqouers such as Amaretto, Frangelica and Khalua. You?

            • Posted By: Forty4 @ 04/17/2009 11:36:38 PM

Liqueurs are nice...I like them but overall I prefer whiskey neat. I have been known to enjoy a Kahlua an cream... if it's really late....

              • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 04/17/2009 11:47:11 PM

I'm glad you enjoy liqueurs...you spelled the word correctly..I didn't. Wiskey- strong stuff for me..I'd be holding up the walls..lol.. Wiskey is of course a very potent drink. So, Jack, (may I call you Jack?), what are your thoughts on,1) this silly score card TTR posted and 2) that article, the one you went to last week. Thank you.

                • Posted By: Forty4 @ 04/18/2009 12:19:52 AM

Yes, by all means please call me Jack. And please, let the thing between you and TTR go. You'll hate me for this, but I actually like you both.

I'd never hate you Jack. I think TTR was trying to have some fun, but I don't think fun should be at others' expense. It's over now. So, did you reply to the two posts on that article?

Yes, I was born here. With all the stuff I embrace on a daily basis...I do love California.

The rose and turquoise sunsets in Redondo Beach keep me here....

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 04/11/2009 10:44:29 PM

Forty4/Bud..how are you this evening? Working? I watched the film last night. Excellent! I loved the ending. I liked Ed Ixley and Bud White of course. I of course hated Dudley. and that murderous DA who killed the young guy.Monster!

      • Posted By: Forty4 @ 04/12/2009 2:36:07 AM

Hey there Sweet P... Ed Exley was one of those guys who actually evolved in a way that people could actually like him.... There's a few guys I work with that resemble him. As for Sargent J.Vincennes.... if he never existed... I don't want to know it.

Thank God, I never met or worked with anyone like Dudley. But I will say as dastardly as he is, James Cromwell is a genius.

I've had enough of this site and enough of LA.... I'm ready to leave with you in our '53 Chevy for Arizona. Do you have your bags packed Lynn?

        • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 04/12/2009 11:37:20 PM

J-I really enjoyed the movie. BW was a good guy but he did things he should not have been doing. He wasnt corrupt like the others though. LB was being used of course..she was misguided but had a good heart. I liked Ed Exley even though at first he seemed to be very selfcentered and selfserving..it was because of his father was it not? Vincennes was greedy, yet charismatic..his smile made him look nice, you wanted to trust him. He looked great in his clothing. I have seen Kevin Spacey before but never noticed how tall he is.

J-You must lead an exciting life. I am interested in knowing more about detective work.

Geez... how forward can I get? My apology, I hope you didn't take offense. I'm normally quite reserved, at least in that way... I had drifted into dreamland when I posted and was revealing my fondness for the end of my favorite flick. And that's Sergeant J. Vincennes. Lol... gotta love the non-editor here at NW.

Thanks for remembering where we were "introduced." What a great exchange... it's nice to see how people here at NW can evolve for the better. Re reading that from November gave me a huge smile.

I hope you have beautiful Easter. I'm off to be with family. Enjoy!

That old article. That was funny. Was I really that bad back then? Blame it on Obama! I was only defending him! I'd like to go there again and finally put and end that discussion. Join me there when you have time? Thanks.

Jack, 1am here. Good night. I hope to read you on that other article this weekend perhaps. The one from november you read last week.

  • Posted By: 40YearR @ 04/09/2009 10:39:54 AM

GM Pia! A smile for you about Obama for the day. A 'few' here want to diss Obama for his recent trip (but, of course, they respect the office...), but I caught part of a speech by Ahmadinejad on News Hour last night:

Ahmadinejad: If a hand is extended to Iran with honesty and justice, the Iranian nation will welcome it. But if it is a hand extended with covert dishonesty, the Iranian nation's response to that will be the same as it gave to Mr. Bush.

As they say, talk to your enemies. It's been (what?) 30 years since there has been any public willingness on Iran's part to have any kind of dialogue. What good has our vilification done about anybody? Turkey refused to allow Bush access through Turkey for Iraq; now they're freinds again. Now Iran is willing to talk.

So much for the old spit in the eye to Obama for his capabilities, huh?

Every day, I am more proud to be American again, and I'm more impressed with both of the Obamas. :-)

    • Posted By: paproudmom @ 04/09/2009 11:43:42 AM

You don't seem very obje tive about Obama. I am reminded of all those Bush supporters who could see no wrong in him. Without objectivity you lack credibility and perspective. PS I don't think you are jealous of Paul. But you seem a bit territorial.

      • Posted By: 40YearR @ 04/09/2009 12:01:31 PM

Well... you did get it right that there's nothing to be jealous about...

        • Posted By: paproudmom @ 04/09/2009 12:47:16 PM

Did I member you saying you were an attorney in a previous post. My daughter is in her second year of law school. She can't wait until she graduates.

          • Posted By: 40YearR @ 04/09/2009 1:27:52 PM

Don't know if I should say these things, but... During it, law school was a massive grind, but I have very favorable memories. Can't think of anything that could possibly hone more rigorous analytical thinking. But... practicing law... Had the great good fortune to work with some of the very best lawyers and clients. There was much that was stimulating and gratifying...But it is a grind that I can't put into words. I tell people now that no person should put themselves through it, especially in private practice. I don't know a single lawyer who is truly happy practising law. The basic most 'civilized' life in law practice that I experienced was in-house corporate. Civilized hours. Got recruited into private practice and took the money... mistake. When my daughter told me she wanted to go to law school, we had a chat. She now runs a lab doing genetic research, and loves it. I should have become a doc. My highest aptitudes were the sciences, and I started out in that direction. Young and too empathetic, was even queasy dissecting a fetal pig, and there never was anyone in the labs... so I went into 'the next best thing'. Should have quit law and gone back to med school, but by the time I realized that I was married and a father. Hope I haven't bummed you out with this, but I'll say it: it's not too late to change directions. Once you get in, it gets harder and harder to do that, although most lawyers would if they could. Hope I didn't say too much...

            • Posted By: paproudmom @ 04/10/2009 11:26:14 AM

Your comments are pretty much what she has heard. She is more interesting in working in the area of labor and employment law for the government ith an emphasis on mediation. This is the area her internships have been in. She also has an undergraduate degree in government with a minor in economics. With her background there are several different career paths she could take. At one time she considered med school. Like you she excelled in science but she did not want to spend that much time in school. Hopefully whereever she lands she will love what she does.

              • Posted By: 40YearR @ 04/10/2009 4:15:40 PM

paproudmom, working in government can be as reasonable hours-wise as inhouse counsel. Government pay isn't as good, but in retrospect I would make that compromise, and there is much to say about a good pension- far more than most realize when they're young and are never going to grow old. Doing what you love is a rare thing (I loved the intellectual stimulation of law school; undergrad was boring). Doing mortgages is the first job I ever loved because I get to help folks with important stuff, shoot straight, best deal. Not intellectually stimulating, but as gratifying on a one-to-one real people basis, and without the conflict (and fighting off BS) inherent in the law. About the time in school.... A little more personal perspective. It took me 7 years to get BA because I worked full time. I was just more mature and more ready to get on with life. Med school is longer, but I had several friends in med school while I was in law school. You obviously need to be smart for med school, but it's not anywhere near the grind of law school, not even the internship. Black and white on hours, and quality of life. Every doc I know is happy with their professional life and the gratification they get. Can't imagine any law practice in the same universe. My biggest professional mistake. I would now have gone to med school (even after law school), spent more time and money, knowing what I know now. I'm grateful that I love what I do now, but I now know also that I would have been far more gratified being a doc. Final thought on that love thing: life is hard, then you die. Do the thing you're gonna dig. All the best to your daughter. :-)

Thanks for sharing. You have very good insights into the field. I agree it is important to do what is going to make you happy and if it means taking a little less in pay with better long term benefits well it is worth it. My daughter has seen how many hours my husband works and while she wants to work hard. She wants to have more balance. Thanks.

It just dawned on me that I have not shared with you the most significant observation/thought I have about being a lawyer. It has to do with morals, ethics and (literally) losing minds.

I have no need to pontificate. Share info. Happy. Exchange exchange and debate views?: What this place ought to be.

Let me know if you might be interested. If yes, then I'll tell you and just let the ankle biters gnaw away and butt slap each other about how humorous and witty they are.

                • Posted By: 40YearR @ 04/10/2009 5:03:44 PM

P.S. Your daughter probably knows this, paproudmom, but nobody told me. It's not accumulation of knowledge. It is developing the capacity to sift through and absorb many facts, identify the relevant and crucial ones, know what are the red herrings, analyse matters logically from both sides, and develop a coherent logic that supports your conclusion and prepares you to deal with and fend off what the 'bad guy' throws at you, 'cause they're gonna. Study for that and just enough to do well on those exams (my biggest mistake in law school was over doing it; I didn't know), make time for fun and personal life, and then study like a banshee to get past the bar exam. Law school doesn't teach you to be a lawyer. It prepares you to learn how to become one when you get into practice.

Btw, Paper Chase is a great movie for perspective and how looney law students get from all the pressure and lack of sleep. We were convinced that the main professor character was modeled after one of our professors, but he wasn't. Still, that professor prepared me best for critical analysis and thinking under pressure. He made me determined and I studied like an SOB so he wouldn't be able to crush me like he did so many.

Sure the Iranian's love Obama, they watch him destroy America with Socialism and bow down to oppressive Muslim rulers. All the while they can build their nukes because no one has the guts to do anyhting about it.Why would they hate us any longer when they have won.

      • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 04/14/2009 11:13:06 AM

Brydges-Are we back to this Socialism again? Obama is not destroying America with Socialism. In addition, he has only been in office for three months. Let's give the man a break and put a little trust in our new president instead of complaining all the time. Repairing our damaged economy may take a couple of years and anything can happen along the way. I don't know much about economics but I do trust the president in doing what he feels is best. 40YearR feels that it may take a year. I hope he sees your post and replies.

        • Posted By: 40YearR @ 04/14/2009 1:34:43 PM

Hi Pia! Good to see you back!

Well, yeah, the economists I've read and heard lately are still thalking along the lines of this March Wall Street Journal:

"Meanwhile, the economists surveyed this month predict that the economy will shed another 2.8 million jobs over the next 12 months as the unemployment rate climbs to 9.3% by December, up from the 8.1% rate recorded in February. Economists also see nearly a one-in-six chance that the U.S. will fall into a depression..."

The stock market has reacted favorably to how they evaluate what has been done so far. Capitalistic investment houses and citizens.

I think the latest figure I've heard is around 2% negative GDP growth (recession) for the next year world wide and in the same neighborhood for our economy alone. That is why another stimulus may be necessary to keep enough money circulating through the economy while sectors like housing/real estate recover to play their own rolls in the economy.

I'm glad brydges acknowledged that the Socialism he sees (hiding behind every bush?) was already here when Obama took office. Sssssshhh, let's not blame B**h though... I think it must have been Carter... and, you know, he was so powerful, no subsequent president was able to do anything to stop it....

Who am I? I am a Republican, Pia. It would be appropriate if 40y, who behaves like a liberal democrat, would claim himself as such. Wouldn't you agree?

Typical Rushbot nonthink hysterical drivel: If you don't agree with me, get out of the party. Sorry, I was here first, when we won elections because we appealed to moderates too, not just no-think ultrarightwing dogmatists.

You know, Saddam had WMD 'cause he said so. Can't find them despite $millions of rewards, but I believe!

Yeah, Dubya saved the world by taking out Saddam before it was necessary and neglecting Afghanistan and the pledge to get OBL. But I insist!

How is it to be a Rushbot, who is such an outrageously biggoted racist? Oh, he's not? Just say so and I'll post them tomorrow, but of course you won't ask me.

Gotta go. Gnaw away at me, because you're such a righteous republican, the kind that has shrunk the party into insignificance, but it's the MSM, wimp moderates like me, not ideologues like you.

Yes, I actually do have to get off. Just gnaw away. I'll deal with your typical lightweight ideological drivel tomorrow. Just ask me to prove to you that Rush is a racist, or justify how you can listen to the pig, ok?

These guys are loving Obama. They will blow so much smoke up him he will be spitting rings of smoke. I personally have no problem talking with them but would believe about 10% of what they say. I would be more interested in what I could find out about what crap they are up to. In the interest of doing something good you guys will give away the farm to only find out later the bad guys were pulling your leg all along. • Posted By: Skallywag @ 04/09/2009 1:11:34 PM

Every day I am proud to be an American. I am not embarrassed to be American, I did not vote for Obama and as such, have no reason to be embarrassed by his lack of ability to lead. I am a veteran and have seen a number of different presidents, some so-so, some bad, none really good. Where GWB was so narrow mindedly ignorant that every time he opend his mouth chunks of stupid fell out, BHO is so inexperienced and unqualified that when he opens his mouth, chunks of incompetency fall out (unless he is led along by a telleprompter, in which case he appears as an unthinking robot). I did not vote for either BHO or MCC, neither individual is qualified or competent to lead this country. How anyone can approve of Obama's leadership is beyond me. I guess if you live in LaLa land, where he is supposedly sooo perfect and the words "Hope" and "Change" really do work like magic, then you can approve of him. Whatever is in your koolaid folks, when you run out, it's going to be a big let down and your fix will be gone.

      • Posted By: Alvy @ 04/09/2009 1:21:47 PM

The problem is, you're amongst those who say he's incompetent while displaying complete incompetency.
You were pretty useless in June, and you're pretty useless now.
What makes you competent? You can judge without knowing the outcome?
That's your claim: Duh, incompetency falls out of his mouth, duh.

        Smart.

Then there's the backwards "kool aid" "your fix" clever hillbilly slam.
Yeah, don't forget Skankywag he's also the first ever socialist, elitist.

        • Posted By: Skallywag @ 04/09/2009 2:33:00 PM

Useless in June? I disagree. I did my part, small though it may have been - I did it. I'm no hillbilly, I disagree with the statement that Obama is socialist. By nature of his political alignment, it may seem that way, but he is not. My statement is that he is not qualified or competent enough to run this country. I stand by those words, your insults aside. So far, his inept decsisons as to cabinet members, his blatant backpedaliing about lobbiests in the administeration. no "old guard" politicians, etc had decidedly put his lack of leadership skill in the limelight. A liar is not a leader. Competency may be gained by adept students. I believe he is not as adept at leadership as his many followers may think- hence the kooliad analogy. Obamicans have been lulled into supporting him because he used those magic words and when the harsh reality hits them in the head, the high will be gone and the 'fix" with it. Change is too hard for them, and hope will fade when they realize it. If they will do their homework next time instead of listening to propaganda, tehy may be able to do the right thing instead of the popular thing.

  • Posted By: Debunked! @ 04/09/2009 10:43:55 AM

Pia, one last thing-----you became very upset when I posted Obama being mocked on a show in Turkey-----the MSM isn't going to show that (and I can understand--but I do want to point out that they had no problem showing and making fun of the guy throwing shoes at Bush) and I doubt they show this---------this is a link to thousands of people protesting Obama's visit in Turkey.

You call me out of touch and dissillusioned. Sorry, but those who are out of touch and dissillusioned are those who believe what the MSM wants them to believe. All this hype over Obama is media made. Obama is as good as the Media makes him and with the media REFUSING to tell people the truth and/or reveal the reality of everything alot of people are left in the dark and believing a lie. The United States of America is more vulnerable than ever and that is a great concern for me. We as Americans really need to recognize and understand that! Now on the flip side, maybe I could be somewhat supportive of Obama because whether I like it or not, he is the President but it is very hard to do especially when I believe that his Presidency is going to cause great harm to us in some fashion. However, I do hope that my gut feeling is so wrong!

      • Posted By: Pallisor @ 04/13/2009 7:38:21 AM

Actually, he is correct about the MSM not reporting this, and that they were relentless in jumping on anything Bush did that could hurt or embarrass him. The shoe throwing incident by one Iraqi was repeated ad nauseam, but an organized protest in Turkey was deemed unworthy of reporting. You can't find a better example of mainstream media bias.

        • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 04/13/2009 9:48:50 AM

Pallisor-so what about the organized protest in Turkey? They were protesting against Obama?

          • Posted By: Pallisor @ 04/13/2009 12:04:00 PM

Yes. From what I gather they are afraid his demands will divide the country. I haven't been able to find much else.

Maybe if the Turks would have thrown a shoe or two at Obama we would know more.

            • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 04/13/2009 12:14:33 PM

Pallisor-I have not read anything about the Turkey protests just what you posted. It's not the first time protestors have done this...Pres. Bush and others have gotten the same.

No more shoe throwing...or maybe....I'll throw mine at you if you repeat with this shoe throwing at Obama. Women's shoes would hurt, trust me.

        • Posted By: Pallisor @ 04/13/2009 9:35:09 AM

One other point: Some of the MSM have finally admitted to their bias. Similar to "Professional Wrestling" finally admitting its shows were fake, it was so blatantly and painfully obvious to the viewer that to continue lying about it was absurd.

Debunked-I also became upset over the bashing of Pres. Bush because of the shoe throwing incident. I did not join in the bashing, I defended him as I have done dozens of times here. It was wrong and disrespectful of the man to throw the shoes and I said so on the article.

But, here's the real question: Have you ever seen Alvy declare how witty he is? He doesn't have the deficit compulsion to do so once that I've seen, let alone constantly. Quite a contrast. Says everything about that aspect...

Their #1 concern is what new cell phone to get or how to steal songs for their iPod. Really this group is totally disconnected from what is going on in the world. They voted overwhelmingly for the war and yoou can watch the videos on YOUTUBE. Particularly Hillary Clinton right after Saddam was captured spouting her support for BUSH AND THE WAR only to deny it all later and of course the liberal media never called her on it. Loook out Hillary there are snipers out on the tarmac!!!

Nothing worse than a man or woman who hates a good Bush.

He's so popular. He did all the right things too.

I don't hate bush and i don't think others should either. I hate the fact that he conspired with Dick Chaney and Rice manufacture evidence that caused the 4500 lives of our country's best and bravest servicemen and women. I honestly believe he thought it was a slam dunk and not really something he would have done on his own. I can forgive him. For those that perpetuated the lie while knowing the truth, i have no respect. the republicans have decided to continue the lie for political reasons and that dishonors those that gave their lives. God will have to forgive them.

We've been over this ground before. Please show us any credible link where Bush, Cheney or Rice actually manufactured any evidence. A document turned up in Italy is all anyone knows with any certainty. And why do continually defend Saddam Hussein? The man admitted to having chemical weapons, he used them on his own people and neighboring Iran. He always deemed them necessary for his survival. He held televised drills with his troops in full chemical dress gear. He fired shots at UN inspectors, and endured 17 resolutions and 12 years of punishing sanctions... for what? Because he had nothing to hide?

You're foolish enough to believe that just because he didn't leave them out for Bush to find on every street corner that they didn't exist!

Every reason given to invade Iraq was fabricated; thats why they are called lies. Alan Greenspan noted the truth in his book. The invasion of Iraq was for oil"
I would offer one more, Cash Money" of the 10 billion dollars going to Iraq a substantial part of that goes to Halliburton and KBR who funnel that money to accounts in the Caymans tax free.

If you can justify the removal and execution of Saddam at eh trillion dollar cost, the lives of 4500 young Americans, the deaths of 100,000 Iraqi civiliansand many of whom were women and chilren, the displacement of 5 million more Plus of course the economic cost as justified, you really need to rethink your values

                • Posted By: Forty4 @ 04/08/2009 6:48:04 PM

You actually believe the war was started for Halliburton's benefit? Lol. Do you have evidence that any, let alone every reason was fabricated? Remember that your opinion isn't evidence. And don't question my values... I actually possess some by thinking international, like local law should be upheld. If you're not going to enforce laws, don't bother to have any.

It's amazing you find no culpability with Hussein for any of this.... not one word from you about his part in the invasion. The fact is, he did everything he could (mentioned elsewhere on this page) to invite the invasion.

And you don't speak for Iraqi citizens... most are grateful for what America and our allies have done. Likewise, you certainly don't speak for the military. Yes, the liberation of a country from maniacal tyrant that claimed "the middle east will be mine" is costly. Before you make your claims, talk with the Iraqis and the soldiers that have served there. They have a very different story than the one you peddle here.

Well for a start KBR has been around for a very long time. they were the no bid contactor in Vietnam and most of us who served then, were well aware of the fact KBR (then just Brown and Root) stock was held by Lady Bird Johnson and she raked in the millions, while Lyndon bemoaned the "terrible war" on TV.
I not only believe Halliburton and KBR profitterring was a large part of Bush needing a war, I damned well know it.
But one other comment since you think the 17 UN resolutions was a big part the justification for invading Iraq, It should be noted that Israel is in violation of 96 UN resolutions, widely held as proof of our lopsided Middle East policy
Nuff said I'm tired of rehashing the value or the lack of value of wars, with idiots who think it's a some kind of video game, and that the removal of Saddam has saved the world.

Except for one thing, All wars are fought for gain of some kind, Power, resources or both. And always have been.

Well Forty, I can't prove that any more than you can prove your certitude that there were WMDs.

In terms of my 'opinion', I was trying to civilly respond to what I understand was an ongoing question of yours.

Btw, isn't it true in law enforcement that when trying to solve any mystery, say like forged yellow cake documents, the first question asked is who had a motive? Like who had the most to gain?

                        • Posted By: Forty4 @ 04/08/2009 8:34:13 PM

Please 40! All the evidence lies in the fact that he admitted having them, he murdered thousands of people with them... he would not pony them up through 17 resolutions over a 12 year period, and you say he didn't have them?

The only motive supplied was the above. Please answer this one question: Why would Saddam Hussein go to all these lengths over all those years if he had nothing to hide?

                          • Posted By: 40YearR @ 04/08/2009 8:54:31 PM

Ok, Forty, I ask you a question which you ignore, but ask another instead.

Of course I can only guess, as you only can too. Obviously he had gas before; he had used it. Saddam was a narcissitic megalomanic. He was too proud to admit that, like his oil facilities were in such disrepair, he no longer had these things. And, as many commentators have stated, he was afraid of Iran and wanted to scare them. So that's my best guess. Which fits better with the total absence of them than just insisting he did.

Whether or not he had gas, he was not connected to 9/11 and there was no intelligence that he had any intentions of attacking us. He had no delivery capacity for a nuclear weapon. He obviously wanted to stay alive, he wasn't a suicidal jihadist, or he wouldn't have hidden in that hole in the ground. He certainly knew that an attack on the U.S. would be his death warrant.

And it is interesting, isn't it, that no military or scientists ever came forward, and none, none could be found despite $millions in reward offers?

Ok, now answer my questions on the forged yellow cake papers.

Isn't it true in trying to solve a mystery, like forged yellow cake papers, the first question the law enforcement would ask is who had a motive?

Who had a bigger motive to fabricate them than the Bush administration?

                            • Posted By: Forty4 @ 04/08/2009 9:09:50 PM

My point doesn't have anything to do with forged yellow cake papers. My question was why would Hussein go through all that he did for a dozen years if he didn't have anything to hide? The fact is if he didn't have anything to hide, he would not have fired shots at inspectors, or any of the other inane bullshit he did. Every one of his actions was indicative of someone who had something to hide. We wouldn't be having this dialog had he simply complied... say back during the Clinton years. I don't see it as Bush having the most to gain, I see it as Hussein having the most to lose. He was terribly stupid, and it cost him unnecessarily.

I did answer your question, as in if you're going to accuse Bush of manufacturing evidence, please show us verifiable proof. Otherwise, your idea that he "had the motive" doesn't hold water. It was Hussein that gave Bush as well as the rest of the world plenty of motive by his actions... but that really isn't the point though. The point is why Hussein carried it to this length in the first place if he had nothing to hide. That, I'd like your answer to.

                                  • Posted By: 40YearR @ 04/08/2009 9:51:28 PM

Well you can insist that your point is the only one that should be discussed, but...

There are points in mine that you avoid, better to answer them at the original posts, but they were along the lines of:

-You insist that proof that Saddam had them is that he said he had them. But, why then have none been found, why have no military or scientists have come forward to confirm that despite $millions in rewards were offered?

                                    - Isn't it a standard practice in law enforcement when there is a mystery, like mysteriously appearing forged documents, who had a motive to forge them?

(You know this is an important question since 'mushroom cloud' and 'yellow cake from Nigeria' were major propaganda points in selling that premature invasion that was injurious to our actual Afghanistan problem.)

                                    - Didn't the Bush adminitration have the biggest motive to forge them as the ramrod toward that premature invasion.

All of this is in addition to the point that there was no imminent threat to us and there was no connection to 9/11 despite all the propaganda that deceived so many Americans to believe there was a connection.

I have tried to address your points. Please return the favor.

Btw, one of my posts spoke specifically to your question why Saddam would lie about having them. It was in reply to your post that asked the question. In addition to being obstreperous, if he was lying to scare Iran, for example, he wouldn't want that lie exposed, would he?

Oh yeah in responding to one of your inquiries, I did point out (to which you did not respond) that he was very far from a delivery system for a nuclear weapon, that there was no intelligence he had any intentions to attack the U.S., that he was not a suicidal jihadist, he obviously wanted to live or he wouldn't have hidden in that hole, and he certainly knew that after 9/11 to attack us would have been his death warrant. Please respond to these points.

I agree with you regarding Iran, however that's exactly my point. Hussein wanted the world to know that he had chemical weapons, and considering his prior use of them, the allies had every reason to believe he did. In law enforcement, if a criminal is telling an officer he has a weapon, you can bet he will be treated as such.

I don't have the facts in front of me, but I do remember Hussein was looking into nuclear weapons. You're right, he was a long way off. However like Iran, if Ahmadinejad had enough time (and he has), likewise Hussein would have eventually acquired them also.

Freighting concept... The old man, as well as his psychotic sons, Umday and Upidstay, with their hands on nukes.

I've said before that I was in favor of going to Iraq as the geopolitical move it was. But, no way was it necessary to do it when it was done, especially how it hampered us in Afghanistan. And, frankly, even though I was conceptually in favor of it, I have fundamental problems with how it was 'sold'.

For whatever, I remember as a kid seeing all those people lying on the grass and pointing at that grassy knoll at the Kennedy assassination. I'm basicall anti-conspiracy theories (the two books I read were hysterical too), but I'll go to my grave believing Oswald did not act alone. For completely different reasons, of course, I've really tried to imagine anyone who would have a reason to fabricate those yellow cake papers other than our administration.

RO in Reno, I'll go with that almost entirely if the 'gain' in Afghanistan is meant to be to squish al Qaeda and deprive them the opportunities they had to perpetrate things like 9/11. I also expect there's plenty of profiteering going on anyway.

P.S. I like the Israel resolution point too. I'll use that one. Really, really tired of that old U.N. resolutions saw, particularly the way the Bush administration kept jamming them through so relentlessly in the run up to the invasion.

Don't you remember all the push to get a series of them passed in the run up to war? That is, while we were busy trying to keep Bush's pledge to get OBL, and we obviously lacked the capacity to wage two wars at once.

Your basic premise was something like why have 'laws' if they're not going to be enforced. Please contrast this attitude on Iraq with the violation by Isreal of 96 U.N. resolution.

But before you do, please respond to my post with questions on the forged yellow cake papers that mysteriously appeared, wouldn't law enforcement's first question be who had a motive to forge them, and who had the biggest
motive to just fabricate such things?

40YearR, You are welcome to use anything I ever post as you see fit.

I would not put Afghanistan in the same light as Iraq and it was Iraq I was referring too...
Afghanistan was a reasonable and necessary response to an attack on the US for what al Qaeda hopes to gain. As such it had the support of the world body and regarded as a justified defense.
It's the aggressor who hopes to gain by war regardless of the ideology used to hide that fact.
Iraq was an act unprecedented by the US in the fact it was a "preemptive" invasion. And all the evidence that it was a defense of the world from non existent WMD???s was contrived as were all the reasons given for that invasion.
Perhaps in the age of information the effort to promote misinformation and idealogy as fact is becoming weaker.
At least 20% of the population knew the truth before the invasion of Iraq, it was well published.
Maybe next time it will be a majority and we will quit killing people for profit.

                    Forty4 and FF-

I understand that the issue you have asked about for some time is whether there is any proof that any of the justifications for the war were fabricated. I have already addressed how the 'issues' were framed, propagandized, such as 'mushroom cloud' and the conflation of 9/11 and Iraq, as well as how badly that decision hurt us.

It is well established that the papers offered as proof on yellow cake were forgeries.

Is there proof that the Bush administration did it? No one has confessed, of course. However the first question a lawyer like me or a detective always asks is: Who had a motive?

Who else had a motive? I suppose suggestions will be made, but there was only one country pushing for that invasion. The rest of the countries accomodated us as allies with all the pressure we could bring to bear. Many said no anyway, and all put in at most token participation.

The Bush adminstration beat the drum for that invasion relentlessly.

I believe that the same administration that would out Valerie Plame, would fabricate those forged papers as well.

I can't prove it, and I have refrained from saying this because of what have anticipated would be... vigorous disagreement, but I do believe it, and I do not think there is an alternative explanation that seems even remotely likely.
Especially when considered in the totality of how hard the administration pushed to get that invasion going.

Pia, Hussein had chemical weapons. He admitted as much. He most likely had them shipped to Syria or Russia, as he had thirty days to do so. Remember, Bush gave him that amount of time.... It bears worth repeating though, and I agree with Forty4 on this.... Saddam could have ponied up his weapons early on, but he didn't. He chose to endure 12 years of sanctions. Why did he do this? It seems odd to me that someone would go to these lengths if they didn't have something to hide.

We were not forced to act when we did. There was no imminent threat to us. Those U.N. resolutions did not mandate war, as hard as we tried to ram that through. It was a war of choice. It was not a humanitarian move. They wanted to go and they beat the drums and leaned on our allies (complaining loudly and critically how little our allies wanted to participate).

Without the mushroom cloud and 9/11 'connection' propaganda, the American people would not have supported it.

No way would Congress or the American people have supported a war of 'liberation'.

We followed our leader, and he blew it.

Without an imminent threat, the number of years is irrelevant. When it means neglecting the important war, and getting us into something that disabled us to complete it: criminal is the closest word that comes to mind.

Certainly not something to rationalize after the fact.

I think this ultimate fall back on U.N. resolutions is what they call in Japan: Shibai. We rammed through as many resolutions as we could as fast as we could. But that aside, we have many laws. We had a war going to get the people who actually attacked us. Then, without an imminent threat, we did something else. You, being in law enforecement, should understand prioritization better than most.

It is noteworthy, though, isn't it, Forty, that none were ever found? No generals or scientists ever came forward to confirm, let alone inform where they went. Not with major $millions offered as rewards. Plenty of people with monetary motives, no one steps forward.

All the while, the entire country is being continuously frightened with talk about 'mushroom clouds'. And many were led to believe that Iraq participated in 9/11 because 9/11 and Iraq were repeatedly mentioned in the same breath (without any basis, and not by accident}.

Those U.N. resolutions are a boot strap. The important facts are that there were no al Qaeda in Iraq. There was no imminent threat to us. None at all. The biggest basis for suggesting this was that Iraq (arguably) was 'seeking' yellow cake. Years away from a threat, in the absolute worst case.

So, no matter how much they really, really believed Iraq was seeking yellow cake and had chemical weapons, the country was intentionally frightened into a premature invasion.

Instead, the real war, against the people who actually attacked us, was neglected. The situation there has degraded for a long time. The Taliban has reconstituted. Military leaders have been pleading for troops for over three years, but we could not deploy them because we were bogged down in that premature, at best, elective invasion of Iraq.

We still don't have enough troops or resources for Afghanistan. We're left with being angry at others (who we pushed and prodded into Iraq) for not doing in Afghanistan what we easily could have done on our own if we had not squandered so much on Iraq.

Iraq did not need immediate invasion, I don't care how many F'ing resolutions we pushed through the U.N.

Iraq was the biggest military blunder we have ever made, from the standpoint of Iraq, and more importantly because we neglected more important business in order to rush into Iraq. I, for one, think that what was presented, sold to us, was part of a geopolitical preference, not an emergency by any means.

40, I think he asked for a credible link showing where Bush, Cheney and Rice manufactured evidence to go to war, as Mr. Limp insists there is. Limp/suck/bass usually takes a powder about now, as this has been asked of him before. The rest of your post is about why the allies shoud not have invaded Iraq, which, at the time most people we're in the majority to do so. It's been said before.... all of this could have been averted after say the first, second or third resolution, but the boy Hussein wouldn't have it. And at number seventeen he paid.

It's against our laws, as well as our allies, to do as you suggest Pia. And the allies didn't launch an attack against the country of Iraq or its people. The attack was launched against Saddam Hussein and his murdering regime.

It's against our laws to get a murderer who also commits genocide but it is not against the law to launch a war and kill thousands of innocent people? I must be missing something..please explain if you can, thank you.

                        • Posted By: Fortunate Fox @ 04/07/2009 8:44:27 PM

Yes, you are missing something. First, where do you get the idea that we killed "thousands of people?" You act as if it was intentional murder. Our goal there was to liberate a tortured people from a dictator and his psychotic sons who wanted to rule the mid-east. Yes, some innocents accidentally died in the effort to liberate Iraq, but the number paled in comparison to the hundreds of thousands murdered by Hussein who now occupy mass graves. Yes, liberation can get rough. Ask your relatives in Italy, Pia.

FF- Firstly- Thousands of people have died. Even if it is two thousand which it is not, it is closer to 50 thousand or more, that is considered thousands. Second-I am not acting like the killings were done on purpose. I never said that. It's a war, wars kill anyone in the way including innocent people....bombings kill people who happen to be at the locations.

Sorry FF, saying that Saddam could have avoided the invasion in no way justifies what was propagandized about the (non)connection between 9/11 and Iraq, or all the fearmongering about mushroom clouds. Nor is Saddam to blame for falsely implying there was an imminent threat, because there was none. Nor is Bush, Cheney, Rummy excused for blowing both Iraq and Afghanistan because Saddam could have avoided it. Nor are the patriotic Americans to blame because we patriotically supported and trusted those incompetent (and deceitful) dopes.

Only apologists who hold onto their faith in Bush and Cheney despite the facts as we now know them actually to be, do that.

Saddam did pay. Along with over 4000 Americans paid with their lives. We all are paying for the worst military blunder in history that we got propagandized into supporting.

Sorry 40... You continually place blame anywhere but where it lies. Did Hussein do all the things Forty4 said or not? If so, he had to go! How much more time would you have given Hussein? He already had twelve years. TWELVE YEARS!!! If you're not going to enforce UN resolutions, why have them in the first place? Would you be willing to let Al Capone or John Gotti go as easily if they were alive today?

And please stop speaking for the soldiers that fought and died in Iraq. They volunteered for their missions, and were proud of their service and their cause. Please, talk with those that are serving there or have served there before speaking for them.

And you keep bringing up Bush and Cheney. A little proof they manufactured any evidence please!

The GOP wrote the book on hate. here's a couple of examples from the last two Republican president campaigns.

When Sen. MCCain was running against Bush in S. Car., Bush had telephone callers spread the word the MCCain had fathered a black child.

In S. Car., last year huckably had callers say that MCCain had ratted on his fellow POWs.

Hate is what defines the Republican party. the GOP is sliding toward third party status and hate is one of the reasons people are leaving to become independents. I believe Independents will take republican seats in many states by 2020.

There are plenty of us out here who have a problem with this man and his policies and could care less about his race. The people who insult him about his race are invalidating their arguments and not representing a majority of those of us opposed to Obama.

"The people who insult him about his race are invalidating their arguments and not representing a majority of those of us opposed to Obama"...

NO! they are simply being honest, unlike the majority of you who oppose Obama, I have more respect for an honest racist than I do for the cowardly "opposers"....

Attitudes like yours is the reason we were "Bushwacked" for eight years"! Grow up! MO only touched the Queens back slightly. Ol' Bushwack actually gave the Queen a lewd wink! If this is all you got to complain about, then you are a sad individual.

      • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 04/03/2009 9:11:17 PM

Ditto. The Queen enjoyed Michelle's friendly gesture and reciprocated by placing her arm around Michelle.

        • Posted By: Dontblameme @ 04/03/2009 11:13:35 PM

How do you know what the Queen felt? Did the media tell you so?

          • Posted By: paproudmom @ 04/07/2009 12:19:07 PM

The Queen's office issued a statement that no offense was taken.

Hey there paproudmom, how ya been? Are you pleased with the goodwill being restored with our allies?

              • Posted By: paproudmom @ 04/07/2009 12:52:37 PM

I am better thank you. How are you? I am taking a wait and see approach to Obama. Sometimes being popular does not always equate with being right. I did like Michelle's comments to the young school girls. Spot on as they say in England! I also thought that Obama struck an appropriate tone in saying the US has made mistakes because at the same time he addressed the anti-Americanism abroad. His domestic policies I am not in the least impressed with so far. See I am all for fair and balanced. I borrowed that from Fox! Just Kidding.

Hello. I'm terrific. Taking advantage of the beautiful spring here. I hope better leads to ideal for you.

I'm glad that we are taking a cordial and collaborative posture to our allies; the alternative is obviously counterproductive. My view about his domestic policies is that the accusations and suppositions about Obama on this score from some quarters will turn out as far from accurate as all the other smoke and exaggerations that have been purveyed on every other thing about Obama personally and his 'policies'. What we have actually seen of him so far is that he is an insightful, probative and pragmatic leader. Even Henry Kissinger went into detail recently on Charlie Rose about how he had opposed Obama in the election, but he is most impressed with his intellect, analytical approach and practicality in an extremely complex set of international and economic issues. Of course, much remains to be seen. Fair and balanced is better as a practice than as a slogan. That's where I'm trying to stay.

The Queen is a human being, not a hunk of wood. Do yourself a favor, stop being so know-it-all. Very tiresome.

And what are you, PIA. What's the matter? Am I getting to you?

In answer to your question, Never.

Do you think that's it's important to him to get to you? Why do people want to "get to " people I wonder?
Esteem maybe. Perhaps they need validation in their lives and can only have it through the suffering of others
                  Hmm. Sociopath perhaps.

You seem to be describing our not dearly departed leader GWB, who was one of the worst presidents in the history of this country. I think one of the major problems is that there is a sector of the US poplulation who would not know leadership if they fell over it.

      • Posted By: minnie08 @ 04/03/2009 9:45:36 PM

Bravo, Jest2007! Bush was by far The Worst President this country has had in modern history! Add to that the Republicans who are still trying to sell their tired, doesn't work Reganomics, what a joke!

          • Posted By: 40YearR @ 04/04/2009 3:57:10 PM

Carter used to be our worst President. Bush surpassed Carter by miles and miles.

Sore loser. Your party lost, live with it! As for Michelle and the Queen, read about the visit again, the Queen was delighted with Michelle's warmth towards her. Michelle is a human being...learn from her.
