What Microsoft forgets to mention is that the 'over-priced' Mac, will last at least twice as long as its PC counterpart. At minimum. They cost more because they're hardware is far superior. Time and again I've watched friends with Macs outlast PC life-spans by years. I'm stuck with a PC, but for me its little different from having to buy my cut-rate tools at Walmart.

If MS wants to help out pricing on the PC side, why don't they eliminate the maze of pricing structures all designed to make MS operating system less expensive than it is. MS profits look pretty good but in contrast those that make the equipment to run your system are operating on razor thin margins. Dell comes to mind. I guess Microsoft is a little jealous of the number of people willing to spend a little more for an Apple product. Steve Ballmer just doesn't know how to get it done.

you really want to make a real difference in overall cost over on the PC side MS. Why don't you quit trying to steer your customers through a confusing array of prices all designed to appear cheaper than you are. Your profits look pretty good, Dell not so good.

An excellent article. I like MACs, but cannot understand why they cost three times what a normal PC would cost. The esthetics are nice and all, but regardless of what technology one purchases, any MAC or PC bought today will be obsolete in three years or so regardless. This is an undeniable truth to computing technology. Apple has a seriious cost to value problem, and considering that their product is made in China just like the PCs they compete with, where is the added cost justified?

The ad is totally fake (just like microsoft's ad where a mac user supposedly switched to a pc; turns out the person in the ad was a stick photo!) in this ad, watch Lauren when she goes into the Apple Store to supposedly check out the macs; as she approaches the store, watch the people walking by, as she 'leaves' the store, you see the same people not even breaking stride! She never entered the store! Also, microsoft has her looking for a computer that they know can't be found in an Apple store for under a thousand because Apple doesn't make low-end junk. This is like giving $15,000 to a car buyer and telling them to go into a Lexus dealer and buy a SUV; it can't be done, but you can surely go into a Kia dealer and buy a deathtrap SportAge.

Microsoft is showing the world that computers running windows (that buggy, overly coded, virus ridden piece of crap software) are the KIA's of the world and macs are the Lexus'. Smart move microsoft you idiots!
