The fact that the people of this nation have lost their faith or no longer adhere to Christian principles is the reason why our nation is having so many economic, political, and social problems. I'm not saying that we will not have problems if we all return to our faith in Christ, but I am saying that there will be far fewer problems and many more will actually go to Heaven in the long-run.

ALL RELIGIONS WERE MADE UP BY HUMANS

THERE ARE NO GODS OR GODESSES OR WHATEVER.
CHRISTIANITY, ISLAM, JUDAISM...ETC.. ARE ALL MADE UP!!!!!!!

THIERE IS NO RELIGION WITHOUT CHRIST. JESUS CHRIST IS THE ONLY LIVING SAVOUR. HOW MANY OTHER "RELIGIONS" CAN SAY THAT. IF YOU DIED TODAY, DO YOU KNOW FOR CERTAIN WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO YOU? COME ON CHRISTIANS...SPEAK OUT!!!!!!!!! DON'T LET OBAMA ASSUME THAT HE KNOWS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LORD.

It figures that Hollywood would pay to put a President in office that supports anti- Christian beliefs , the very same beliefs that made it possible for Obama to be even considered for President at all. This country certianly is Christian ,ask Jesus ,and Obama will have to answer to him on his return, shortly. And as for Obama's bull on Lincoln,he is spinning in his grave ,hearing Obama quote his words, without his beliefs in Jesus Christ.God Save Us All under this Presidency. It'a amazing in 2001 this country was on it's knees asking for prayers everyday through out all the twin tower ordeal ,and now were Not a Christian country Ha.Wait till the (sh )hits the fan. Then well see who is a Christian in this country.Amen

What we must understand as a nation that religion is not what we say, religion is what we do. Religion is not just a set of rituals and declaration of words. To say Christianity is dying in America is a misstatement. Christianity or should I say the true teachings of Jesus have never been fully alive in america. The way this country was founded and built and how it has prospered was and is not based on so-called christian values. The people who have shaped and molded this country for the most part call themselves christian whether they be liberal or conservative. So what we are witnessing in this country is a result of people using the label of Christianity and not practising the teaching that are found in the scriptures and the american public is becoming more cognizant of that realization.

I am sad that Americans have forgotten why this country was founded - to seek religious persecution and to worship and honor a living Christ. Our country's most historic documents declare the sovereignty of Jesus Christ and that America would be a country that was declared to serve Him. Americans have failed to acknowlege that America was founded upon Biblical roots. Christians - continue to pray, love & serve. The world can not argue with the truth of the Word of God - the Bible. I feel sorry for the ones who plainly, flat out refuse to investigate for themselves about a true and living God & I refuse to underestimate Americans or the power of Our Lord and Savior.

We will be One Nation Under God!

This country allows you to worship as you would like. What it doesn't and never should allow for is for you to impose your religious views on others. Because religion should be a personal choice. It must be a personal choice. And others, like me should be allowed the choice to reject that choice for themselves. Otherwise you are living in a Taliban like state. Imposing religious faith on others renders that faith meaningless.

"I am sad that Americans have forgotten why this country was founded - to seek religious persecution and to worship and honor a living Christ. "
That is a crock. Nowhere in our foudinging docusments is that supported.

"Our country's most historic documents declare the sovereignty of Jesus Christ"

That is a lie. Nowhere in two most important documents is Jesus even mentioned.

"and that America would be a country that was declared to serve Him. "
      Also a complete lie.

"Americans have failed to acknowlege that America was founded upon Biblical roots."

Not exactly. It was founded upon basic human ethics. It jsut so happens that those laws which the founding fathers utilized where in the JEWISH part. So techincally it should be said that, IF the bible was essential (which it really was not since the ethic found there are univeral and not just specifally tied to the bible). that he US was founded on Jewish principles NOT Christian ones.

"The world can not argue with the truth of the Word of God - the Bible."
Of course it can has successfully done so.

"I feel sorry for the ones who plainly, flat out refuse to investigate for themselves about a true and living God"

Most of us have investigated it and have come to the realization that there is no god.

"We will be One Nation Under God!"
      Luckily we will not.

I personally think "Faith" should be completely removed from Capitol Hill. From what I can make out the only thing faith has brought us is: racism, homophobia, xenophobia, and the urge to replace the scientific method with "prayer time" In my personal opinion America will never be able to solve its problems as long as we sit idly by and pray for an answer. We need to get out there and solve our own problems, instead of relying on a deity (that at best) has the power to end the problems before they start and chooses not to.

one thing I will never understand is how something can put you through such hell and one would still say "he is testing my fate, he still loves me!" it lunacy.

but hey that's just my opinion.

The greatest thing about our Christianity faith is that it is a personal decision. The fact that the country is falling away doesn't mean an individual is apart from God. This is when we really stand out. We love the way Jesus did and we keep going strong in our faith. This is when real faith comes in. It is when you still stand even when you feel like you are alone. God loves America as he does the world.

Gay , marriage: abortion on demand:, No prayer in schools but tolerance for gays and PC ideology is imposed instead:
Hollywood's Christian condescention and stereotyping (not unlike that of urban southerners: mainstreams' abhoration, and elite education of PC ideology have poisoned America perhaps terminally.

On the right,, failure to destroy the pretentious separation of church and state (found nowhere in the constitution), failure to address America's poor and hunger (Jesus' most sincere efforts) i.e conservatives' ignore of capitalism's greed and hord , thus opening the ddor for Socialism , is equally culpable.

I find it odd that Newsweek didn't mention that 91% of those surveyed declared themselves Christian or affiliated with a Christian religion. This article is simply trying to substitute the view the average American has about other Americans with what they are declaring themselves to be.

Try to be more objective with your survey responses and post more information collected in the future. Asking 15 questions about religion in a survey and writing a story based on the one question that is based on opinion of others is silliness.

This type of skew is becoming too common on Newsweek. I'm afraid I will soon have to tag this site tabloid rather than news.

Prayer does not ask God to fix it. God does not fix things for you. Prayer simply asks for strenght and guidance through difficult times, such as these. What strength do we have compared to our sovereign Lord? Our nation is turning its back on God and look where we are at today! Thousands have lost their homes and their jobs. We are in a recession. The news reports mass shootings and other horrible events. It is time to turn back to God. Read the bible; when the children of Israel turned away from God they were punished. Look at them and look at us. Hmm...

Newsweek - for you to publish "The Decline of Christian America" during Holy Week is absolutely deplorable!!

"Newsweek - for you to publish "The Decline of Christian America" during Holy Week is absolutely deplorable!! "

Why? It is actually a completley germaine issue given that this is a major holiday for Christians.

I'm amazed that some people find these polls to be disturbing...
I'm not atheist by any stretch of the imagination, but it seems to me that the issues we're dealing with in the present rely less on the power of prayer and more on the power of ACTION.
Remember kids, you get nothing done simply asking God to fix it. You have to do something about it yourself.

I'm sure every person of christian faith will cancel their subscription to Newsweek. Oh, that's right -- they don't have one. This magazine is a joke and everyone knows it. Who you polling -- people from MSNBC?! Bill Maher?

    • Posted By: History 101 @ 04/07/2009 11:05:30 PM

No they are polling people from Foxnews, remember "fair and balanced". hahah now that is a joke.

Yes, but a bad one. Most of us who are politically right of Chairman Mao or Sean Penn only see Newsweek on root canal week, not often on Holy Week.

Any organized Religion is like any Business Corporation. The bottom line is "MONEY". Any organized religion will not survive without "MONEY". If you look carefully, any head of any organized religion is like a CEO. They live very well. Organized religion has a product/products to sell. Their products are "FEAR, HEAVEN, and Hell". Where you now standing is where heaven and hell is.

This stry reminds me why I take thrown away Newsweeks on Camping trips. Works great when you're out of TP. Hey, gutless editors, how about a story during Ramadan criticizing a violent religion led by a pedophile. What cowards you are to attacke a religion during its Holy week because you don't fear retributon.

The Republicans would have you believe that Jesus Christ supports trickle down economics and is a champion of the rich, the powerful and the connected. And apparently it's a representation that the Republican "base," has swallowed hook, line and sinker.

They better hope the Bible isn't an infallible document representing the word of God. Because if it is, they're all headed for a particularly awful place after they die.

It seems interesting that you are now judging people as to where they spend eternity.

Your publishing this article on the supposed "decline of Christian America" during our Holy Week is absolutely a disgrace!!!! Shame on you!
