‘The Real Spinal Tap’

'Spinal Tap' made mockumentaries the art form of our time. It also made life hell for every struggling hair-metal band—just ask Anvil.

I enjoyed the article. I would add that when discussing the evolution of mockumentaries you should not forget "The Gods Must Be Crazy."

I agree, real metal has never been a chart topping genre, though the commercially oriented incarnations(hair metal, nu-metal, post-80s Metallica, etc.) have. And Anvil is not a hair metal band. That being said, Anvil is obscure even by metal standards. I recently listened to some of their songs and they were actually ahead of their time, in terms of drumming and speed.
