Sounds of Summer

Despite the down economy, fans are still buying tickets to the big summer music festivals, lured by layaway programs and, in one case, a former Beatle.

I had a blast at Coachella this year and hope it continues to please!

In the indie spirit, talking about indie music in general... there is one that is paving the way with multi-genre artists not just Country. The label is called Per Capita Records. I found about them researching labels in Nashville to submit my music to. They intrigued me the most. The label has a Saddle Creek, Epitaph, or Matador feel to it with all its eclectic artists. www.percapitarecords.com

Yeah, it's an interesting device, but I'm not sure how practical it will be.

There is another great guide to music festivals at www.rusemag.com. It includes a more diverse collection, as well as the "biggies".

There is another great music festival guide at www.rusemag.com. It is similar to this; however, it was posted a week ago. www.rusemag.com has a more complete list of festivals with dates, web-sites, and locations.

Music fans are music fans. I hold small local shows myself with just big locals acts and music lovers continue to pay for their entertainment. Maybe a few thousands might come out this year, but there won't be an interesting drop that will hurt the indusry. People will always continue to pay for entertainment. It is one career that will change, but will never become obsolete.

If Coachella is too far for Beatles fans, don't forget about Abbey Road on the River in Louisville, KY over Memorial Day weekend - 5 days of Beatles music and other great music of the 1960s and beyond. Family-friendly (under 21 gets in free with adult admission) and beautiful riverfront location!
