It's great to see all the new-found interest in green jobs and the environmental sector in the US. It's also good to know there are so many new resources and potential opportunities out there for the renewable energy sector. Just remember that green jobs aren't limited to the energy sector or the engineering and manufacturing of renewable energy products. The environmental sector is a long-standing and diverse one with many opportunities related to water, air, sustainable development, communications, planning... the list goes on. There are also a lot of services that are necessary to get the renewable sector going but not necessarily related to engineering and technology. For instance, the expansion of wind farms has put a lot of ornithologists to work assessing potential impacts to birds. Just keep this in mind if you are starting out in you search for a 'green job'.

It is easy to predict what happens next. While money is available, they will build wind mills, solar batteries, etc. which are unprofitable because of still arghaic technology. Then money is over, it will be discovered soon that sustaining these "energy fields" takes more money than cost of energy they produce, and what is left will be "symbols" of the future - abandoned Obama energy cemeteriy fields. Probably in future they will be turists attractions, symbols of humans stupidity.
If yu don't want to end up in unemployment office - don't go to "green" school. yet, join "regular" workers, may be you will be one developing better green technology of the future.

It is called experimentation... Somebody has to do it. I agree though, the current forms are not advanced enough as it is. The more we use them though, the faster the rate of advance. The more working in the field, the more brains available to be utilized.

There could be no better investment in America than to invest in America becoming energy independent! We need to utilize everything in out power to reduce our dependence on foreign oil including using our own natural resources. Create cheap clean energy, new badly needed green jobs and reduce our dependence on foreign oil.The high cost of fuel this past year seriously damaged our economy and society. The cost of fuel effects every facet of consumer goods from production to shipping costs. It costs the equivalent of 60 cents per gallon to charge and drive an electric car. If all gasoline cars, trucks, and SUV's instead had plug-in electric drive trains the amount of electricity needed to replace gasoline is about equal to the estimated wind energy potential of the state of North Dakota. We have so much available to us such as wind and solar. Let's spend some of those bail out billions and get busy harnessing this energy. Create cheap clean energy, badly needed new jobs and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. What a win-win situation that would be for our nation at large! There is a really good new book out by Jeff Wilson called The Manhattan Project of 2009 Energy Independence Now. http://www.themanhattanprojectof2009.com

Deciding to re-skill into the renewable energy industry can pay off. Last week, the Union of Concerned Scientists released a report that forecasted nearly 300,000 green jobs would be created if a national renewable energy standard is adopted. This would require a 25% reduction in fossil fuel use by 2025. But who is right? There is a current dispute about green jobs, with some claiming that the numbers are inflated.
