I know India as one of the cleaner, more peaceful countries but it seems that there is quite a bit that actually goes on behind the scenes.

What the heck ! Newsweek, are you on the payroll of Indias ruling party or something? What is this? Right on our borders in the south, there is a dangerous anaconda of mafias is encircling us and you talk about a rotten state in India? Really you are miseducating Americans or disprespecting us.

The most unncessary article. Why dont you look at what is happening just south of our borders. What do we have to do with indian Election, when more pressing problems are here. Is newsweek on payroll of the Indias ruling party, facing this state govt. of india? Shame, shame. Are you kidding us Newsweek?

The author himself says "Ansari has never been convicted of anything". So why is this an issue whether he contests an election or not. Ted Stevens - even though he lost - still was able to contest, whatever the merits of his case (which was dropped... see how easy it is to tar someone's reputation). So why pick on this fellow from India. Its better they are contesting through the ballot than through the bullet. I think India is the ideal democracy with its many parties. I hate the dominance of the GOP and Democrats in the US as if there are no other opinions in the US.

The Slideshow on Newsweek.com includes this article, with the caption "The Godfather: In India, Mayawati runs for parliament from prison" to this article. This is incorrect. The article makes no mention of Mayawati, the former Chief Minister of the Indian state, Uttar Pradesh. The article, instead discusses Mukhtar Ansari. Please correct this gross misrepresentation ASAP.

I THINK NEWSWEEK has no comprehension of how corrupt the judicial process is in india -on second thoughts i am sure they are aware of the complexities of charges and the judiciary charged to prove it as the same flaw rules american courts and police force ,
most of the times honest people and politicians can be framed while gangsters/criminals go scot free -
REBEL HEROES LIKE ROBIN HOOD and william tell and che guevera ARE INDEED BASED ON TRUE LEGENDS AND I THINK NEWSWEEK WOULD KNOW OF THAT historical reference indeed -
IF YOU ARE HELD IN A PREISON WITHOUT A TRIAL THEN HOW DO YOU PROVE YOUR INNOCENCE -
just like in gitmo bay -have not all the terror suspects now accused CIA of torture and extracting forced FALSE confessions -

the same applies to PEOPLE LIKE ANSARI -HIS COMMUNITY believes in him and his sincerity and that is the most important credential to be able to qualify as a democratic rep.,not a clean sheet while you have more filth under the carpet then in the sewers of chicago itself -

i think the comparison between ANSARI AND BLAGO WAS UNFAIR -INCOHERENT -IRRELEVANT AND IMMORAL -THANK YOU
