He clearly considers it unfair that his sex life is a consideration in his political success or failure and I believe he's missing the point. Very few people in NY care about who he chose to have sex with. For him to cry foul after getting caught doing something that he has fervently prosecuted...has and continues to define his obvious sense of entitlement. It's this hypocrisy, not his sex life that gets caught in my throat, so to speak.

The idea that sexual fidelity correlates positively with political competence is ludicrous. We have seen scrupulously chaste leaders perform disasterously, and randy ones perform with consumate skill. Had the means to uncover and broadcast indiscretions existed since the country's founding, quite a few of our most renowned statesmen would have been hectored out of office before accomplishing a single thing. Out Puritanical baggage gets in the way of good governance rather than promoting it in any reliable way.

It's not like Spitzer manufactured evidence that caused the deaths of 4500 plus of our best and bravest young Servicemen and Women, is it? I hope the mouth-breathers calling for Spitzer's demise aren't going to have a problem with the on-going investigations of the Bush/Cheney wrong doing.

5,000 words on Spitzer and not one of them is hypocrite? That where the outrage lies, not with his sexual proclivities but with his bold-faced hypocrisy. Not sure how a journalist and his editor could omit such an obvious point from a piece like this.

Please spare us any more tales from or about Mr. Spitzer. Enough already! These dime-a-dozen tales of hubris are neither interesting nor newsworthy.

It's always hard to see someone brought done by stupid mistakes. It's hard for me to see evil in this man, just poor judgment. It bothers me that everyone is so quick to judge. I wonder who blew the whistle on him and whether the bankers were getting payback by notifying the feds of "irregularities" in his banking activities. I mean, how did anyone notice that he took $5 g's out of his account? That's a typical dinner bill on the upper east side.

Eliot Spitzer still doesn't get it. He thinks we are stupid. Why else would he try to spin his problems the result of a personal sex scandal?

Spitzer's penchant for kinky sex was the least of his problems. His arrogant abuse of power is what brought him down. He used government agencies like the state police to screw and eliminate his perceived enemies. Sound familiar? Richard Nixon did the same.

Spitzer is in denial. His self important, power hungry ego is the reason he should never again be allowed to hold a position of trust in the public sector. Go away Eliot, and stay away. Your opportunity has come and gone!

Couldn't finish the article. This guy just needs to stay in exile. He is the epitome of the hypocritical governing class...the rules are only meant for you lowly ones.

"He does not have Barack Obama's ability to look at a stranger and see him for who he is.." Huh? What does that mean? The writer of the article has a serious crush on Democrats.

Elliot Spitzer has many different sides to his persona all of which make him very different from most pols and above all interesting. In terms of his sexual history, i find him much more honourable than, for example, Jack Kennedy and Billl Clinton.

Please explain how prostitution is not now legal in N.Y. state, since it has declined to prosecute an admitted john for the same offense that he spent many months of his career sitting in judgement of those "small ordinary" people of that state for that same crime that he now admits? Aren't the convicted panderers able to sue the system for the seemingly "pick and choose" method of prosecution? What is good and right for one man is supposed to be for all men, otherwise we have a cast system where people are less equal than others.

It's sad that Spitzer got involved with prostitution because he did do a lot of good to convict criminals - unlike most AG's who simply pander to get re-elected.

He betrayed the mosy sacred of trust, that of a husband and wife. Granted he can rec. god's forgivness and possibly that of his family but he should quietly fade into the woodwork. He has destroyed his credibility.
