Why is it that the shallow elitists have to assume that an Ivy League education is somehow better that what you would get a state school? I have met many dumb Ivy League alumni with wortlhless majors. What the dumb eltist snobs don't telll you is that there are many wortless majors out there. If a person goes to college (incidentally it is not a birthright as President B.O. would have you to believe) they need to major in something that would provide them with a skill. For instance, nursing will be very much in demand and a person can get a good nursing degree at a state university. They don't have to go to Harvard or Princeton.

If this were a civilized nation, all students would be entitled to education.

What we are basically talking about here is a sense of entitlement: go to any school debt-free, even as many people are struggling to afford state-schools. You have to draw the line somewhere--even on benefits.

The worst assumption you can have is one of privilege and several post seem to use the logic of privilege.

the only thing more dangerous to al qaeda than a us marine with a well aimed rifle is a marine with a well read book. harvard, yale, dartmouth, and princeton should be preparing to take the doors off of the hinges in preparation for a flood of vets. thanks to uncle sam, i got a bachleor's, 2 master's, and now working on a ph.d so don't tell me that the vets don't deserve this. we paid a price for ole jodie boy to stay at home and party like a rock star. someone had to go over there. now that many are back, well let us learn how to make the necessary technological jumps on how to improve the crappy equipment that they sent us into combat with. now what better success story can there be for old johnny solider boy/sailor/airman/marine who went from shoveling crap on his daddy's farm, to fight for old glory, comes back and is a harvard scholar? Hey, even Pres Barack Obama can't top that story.

I think some may be under the assumption that we are given some special access to these schools. That would be wrong. Those of us who attend have busted our behinds to get in just like any other student -- nobody is "sending them" [us] to these prestigious schools. It just happens that some people thought it was worth it to fund our education after the sacrifices we've made.

dmb12345 must stand for dumb! What an ignorant thing to say. Safe to assume you didn't go to any college? The returning soldiers have not only risked their lives to maintain their countries freedom, but they are returning to a financially devastated country. It is not the same home they left, with the promise to honor and protect. These soldiers have been traumatized deeply in this sensless war. The very least our country could offer them is a free education, Ivy League or otherwise. My son joined the Army Reserves long before he even finished high school. With many promises from his recruiter, he had the understanding that he would be eligible for financial assistance for an education, via the GI bill. Well, that was not completely true. Seems during his application process, his did not dot an i, or cross a t, making him completely in-eligible for anything. I think we, as tax payers owe these troops an education. If we got billions to give greedy banks who have created the disaster these soldiers are returning home to, an education is chump change! Write the damn check!

Why should be send them there anyways? All we need to do is to take a look a the result of the output?
