I'd like to comment on congress apologizing for slavery. Who the hell do they think they are?!? Maybe THEY feel the need to apologize, but they have no right to do so for anyone else! Why should any of us need to apologize for something we had no part of?! Is Africa apologizing for THEIR ancestors selling their own people into slavery? Because thats exactly what they did. For God's sake, get over it!! None of us were even a twinkle on the planet when all that took place, and no one living today has ever been a slave, so let it go, and move on, unless you enjoy stagnating in the past pool of ignorance. These people who are attempting to be so politically correct are only succeeding in making asses of themselves. Even the ones they are trying to impress are laughing at them. And when our president finds it necessary to bow to some pot bellied tyrant dictator, it is embarrassing for the whole U.S.A.----if we accept that he did so on our behalf, which I, personally don't accept. And his saying that America is arrogant is totally misguided. It was that "arrogance" that got us the top spot as number one nation in less than 200 years---that, plus our ingenuity. When people are given the opportunity to live their dreams, everyone profits, the government, and every person living in freedom benefits from each other's talent. We are a nation consisting of the best every other nation had to offer at the time we were formed, and everyone offered their own brand of talent which they brought from their various countries, including the Africans who, eventually joined us, and even the American Indians gave us their talents, once we worked out a peaceful relationship, and because of this we became the greatest nation. We will remain so only if we stop allowing what others think of us to guide our actions. And if we allow God to guide us. Other countries had the talent, we are no smarter or talented than they, but we used ours to the best of our ability because we based our government on FREEDOM. And if that is what President Obama is referring to as "arrogance", then all I have to reply to that is: THANK GOD FOR THOSE ARROGANT FOREFATHERS WHO GAVE US ALL A COUNTRY TO BE PROUD OF AND A HERRITAGE THAT WILL LIVE ON, IN SPITE OF SOME WHO WANT TO DESTROY IT. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

Perhaps they should put Coleman in a log cabin until the Minnesota election is decided. That might put a damper on election litigation: http://blogdredd.blogspot.com/2009/04/pop-cornyn-time-again-for-minnesota.html

Apolitical: I've been out as a gay man AND as a Republican for years now. TRUST ME: the right has always been more accepting of me as gay, then leftish gays are that I'm right.

I have also been out for years, and could not disagree more. Disclosure: I have known many individuals who were republican/conservative based on economic/fiscal policies ( I respect their postions, while not agreeing) while being personally tolerant with respect to social issues. However, it is clear that, as an institution, the Republican party is AT BEST indifferent to gay issues, while more generally hostile to them. Any gay person who believes that the Republicans are more receptive to their concerns than the Democrats is horribly deluded. Stop hating yourself and accept who you are without guilt or shame (or pride, because that is wrong, too). Either you are worthy person deserving of equal treatment, or you are the victim of some form of mental illness and in need of treatment. Like it or not, that is the decision before you (and me).

        BG.Bryan,

While I agree with your statement in general, I must admit to having been on the fence for a few months as to how I was going to vote last year. While I realize that for me personally, voting for the politician who is more gay friendly is important, I also feel that it is my duty to look at how the elected officials will work for the country over all. I did end up voting mostly Democrate, but in local elections there were a couple of Republicans I voted for because they were better suited for the job.

And lets face it, the left side of politics hasn't exactly been doing much for us. We've got gay marriage in 4 states, and laws banning it in 30. We've got DOMA, which may or may not be repelled, along with Don't Ask Dont' Tell. We've got a Dem in office who has the power to do it, and says he wants to think about doing it, but in the end, I fear he probably won't do it. Here in Colorado, it's still legal to be fired from your job for being homosexual. We have no protections, we have made very little movement on getting our rights. If someone is finding a more welcoming atmosphere, I say enjoy.

That's the best case of voting against your own self-interest that I've ever seen.

It troubles me that the general heterosexual population gets so agitated against a decided gay minority. Their vitriol against homosexuals is disrespectful and hateful. Likewise, the majority of gays are disrespectful and hateful toward conservative or Republican homosexuals. Sad and shameful in light of which party gave us DOMA and Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

Um, I hope you're not suggesting that Democrats are responsible for these laws. Because if you are you are way off base. Particularly DOMA. You have a little better argument with Don't Ask, Don't Tell. But Clinton was in a difficult position with this one obviously. This was a compromise position. Before this policy, homosexuals were banned from the military. Clinton advocated all people being openly allowed in the military regardless of sexual orientation.

People who have something in common with Log Cabin Republicans:

    Jewish Nazis
    Poachers for PETA
    Female Taliban
    Loggers for ELF
    Jumbo Shrimp

Openly gay Republicans would not succeed from within. The Republicans would rather have their gays in shadows and remaining hypocrites. Foley, Haggart, Larry Craig, etc. comes to mind.
