The Maersk Alabama just had it's second encounter with pirates, and THIS TIME the crew had guns and could repel the offenders MEANINGFULLY. This time the Maersk Alabama continued on to it's destination...
Over one million times per year amerivcan citizens successfully defend themselves with guns. This could be reduced if American liberals would would help responsible law makers keep violent criminals in the USA in jail!.
Mexican leaders should try to guage how well the US ban on semi-automatic firearms WORKED to reduce crime while it was law. ( NOT AT ALL-- which is why it is no longer law!). It's not a loop-hole IN the law. But a loop-hole in the criminal's thinking restrictions DO NOT ADRESS! And a Liberal view that the violent criminal should be free to live among his intended victims!

I AM GOING TO TELL YOU A STORY ABOUT A PERSON THAT WAS IN IRAQ,HE WAS A BRITISH COP WHO WAS THERE TO TEACH THE IRAQI POLICE RECRUITS,WHEN HE SAW THE ARTICLE ABOUT ALL THE GUNS GOING WERE COMING FROM THE USA ,HE TOLD US THAT THEY ARE DOING THE SAME AS THE IRAQI RECRUITS.THE USA WOULD GIVE THEM UNIFORMS,POLICE CARS AND GUNS AND AMMUNITION.A FEW DAYS LATER THE CAR WOULD BE STRIPPED OF ALL POLICE MARKINGS,AND WAS NOW A TAXI CAB. WHAT ABOUT THE GUNS AND UNIFORMS WHERE DID THEY GO,HIS ANSWER WAS THEY SOLD THEM TO THE REBELS. SO ANYBODY WITH A HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION KNOWS THAT THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT IS CORRUPT AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN CORRUPT SINCE SPAIN INVADED THE COUNTRY IN THE FIFTEEN AND SIXTHTEEN CENTURY,IF THE PROBLEM IS TOO BIG BLAME THE USA WE ARE GULLIBLE.

Yes they are all wrong, it is not 90 percent, the real amount is 89.99999 percent. Now it turns out that all these guns are comming from Guatemala and Belice, surely they produce a lot more guns in Central America than in the US. Please.....

    About Your Article, Even Thomas:
Paul???s (Krugman???s) views are believed more correct, than NOT. His ???meta analysis??? of the systemic risk missed, claims it came from the ???shadow banking system??? and this too is correct, although it???s merely another, albeit significant part of the problem. What he's also perhaps missing is the historical context. This means the macro model of wealth creation, has changed. He disagrees.

In parallel, to the over leveraged shadow banking failings, is the fact that we???ve the additional problem of a long wave convergence, of a fundamental ???paradigm shift??? in macro wealth creation methods, as is as well occurring, with the timing of the financial crisis. This historic shift, Hassim Nicholas Taleb and Roubini agree is a ???black swan.??? Perhaps.

And that this historic transformation is now being recognized, is not yet proven, to be the one, that shifts us, from the old division of labor methods, to the NEW ???Integration of Labor(sm)??? new economic paradigm methods. And for this reason some argue, that Paul is looking backward, perhaps a bit more than he should be; instead of looking more into today and forward to tomorrow, and its needs. This notwithstanding, still his focus on sustainable growth is also correct so he should be capable to recognize that the new paradigm ensures these highly desirable G-20 and global result(s).

Does Paul, Larry and other really comprehend this? I do NOT know, as beyond this, where they are holding on the subject, of the new economic paradigm???s strategic development value, I really do not know; just that their general concern(s) about long term sustainable growth is well founded, and soon they???ll all be poled on this matter officially, as it comes into the MSM public domain, as their opinion(s) will of course continue to be valued, although its importance in shaping thoughts, opinion and policy will of course have been significantly diluted. Why? For ???missing??? yet another ???black swan,??? that by many is seen as professionally unforgivable, in terms that account for our nations dismal politics, as his public???s continued recognition (at least, from my perspective) wanes.

Paradoxically, Paul has also justly complained that the stimulus, is NOT big enough (and in the above context, again he???s absolutely correct, for the wrong reasons) although, herein AGAIN this is seen as further proof that he???s looking for solutions in the wrong direction and place(s). Since as the author of Humanomics(sm) NEW economic paradigm, and not being a professionally trained economist, thank Good, nonetheless it???s recognized that ???supply side??? macro economics, is the ONLY macro source, of the solution. I???m a didactic scientist and not an economist. And so where does this leave us?

    Shalom,

    Yehoshua Ya???acov

What difference does it make if its 1% or 100%? Its NOT OUR PROBLEM! The Mexicans should put up a barrier on the border if they don't want our guns. Why should I give up ANY of my rights for some FOREIGN issue?

They send us all the drugs and wetbacks, then whine about a few guns being smuggled into their country?? BS!

    • Posted By: lovo del norte @ 04/22/2009 12:42:55 PM

mhull1, you sound like a druggy! i will tell the Mexican government to let the drugs traffic freely towards US and let the US take care of its addicts. what do you think?

  • Posted By: chaggys @ 04/21/2009 4:11:31 PM

I think it might be interesting to know who is USA's main drugdealer. I mean cause here in Mexico all of them have names and we might not know were they hide ( and even when church priests gives a great track about their location, autorities fool themselves about it) but they're totally identified, who or whom are their counterparts in the US.

What are the names of those corrupts americans that work with drugdealers?

shaggy, you could not be further from the truth, i totally agree with you.

Are you stupid or what? 90%" traced" this is the key word "traced". Do you think that whoever sells the guns is so stupid as to put serial numbers on the guns they are selling to criminals? What world are you living in? do you think that if i am a gun seller, i am going to want government to trace a gun back to me if i know i sold it to a criminal? come on guys stop being so stupid and see the reality. I tell you what's real: freakin americans consuming drugs! tha's real... they love that ***! they like that ***! they get stupid on that ***!

Reporting on this indicates that during 07-08 Mexico recovered about 29K firearms - asked the US to check on 11K - 6K could be traced, and 5,114 were found to be US. Soooo... the number is 5K of 29K confiscated. Do the math - another way of reporting would be - 83% of guns found in Mexico were not from the US. Still 17% is a good number. Seems to me the real story is Gun Control - firearms possesion in Mexico is highly regulated and possesion of hanadguns etc is not allowed. No one can possess a "military" caliber weapon - 9mm, 45ACP, anything fired from an "assault" rifle etc. So - Mexico has Gun Control far beyond the US - yet still has this problem. If guns can be smuggled OUT of the US - they can surely be smuggled IN. Seems that Mexico is a poster for every Pro-Gun slogan.

    WHAT'S THIS?
A Mainstream News Faction actually admiting the 90% figure is bogus? News WEEK actually researching the facts? Donkeys must be flying. Hell must have froze over!
    Obama not tellum truth.
News Week deserves a little Well Done, here. It normaly jumps right into the propaganda of the Discrimation Campaign against gun owners--and don't bother to do the fact checking. The platitudes and lies of the Discrimiation campaign are simply shared,as facts
If News Week can be this honest 90% of the time News Week may lead the failing news paper industry away from the precipice!
Obama knows the "90% " figure was a 100% lie. And that the "assault" weapon ban was and is a farce as a crime control measure.

Figures lie and liars figure. The "problem" will not be resolved simply by trying to control guns... or drugs. It is the same on both sides of the border, no? That is all political posturing intended to motivate one side or the other. The Mexican government is trying to change a system in place with 70 years on one party rule. It is arresting drug cartel leaders, and some are being killed in the process. That creates an internal battle in the drug gangs. Corrupt police are being rooted out, but it does not happen easily in any country. Add to that the deportation of US gang leaders who quickly join with their Mexican compatriots and use their US connections to streamline the exchange of drugs, guns, money back and forth. On this side of the border we need to stop looking down upon Mexico, and Mexico needs to not be so sensitive about their bigger neighbor. Both governments need to do their job quietly and professionally to improve relations and cooperation. Pointing figures accomplishes little except to reaffirm our pre-existing notions.

Hey You deathbrain MHULL1; The difference is that a lot of innocent people are beeing killed in Mexico by those guns & a lot of people are been killed in USA by the drugs that are sent to USA by those who import the guns to Mexico.

I know that this statement is to complicated for your cocaine addicted brain to understand, but keep up feeding your stupidity, believe it or not our Constitution protects your right to be stupid and to have guns.

To mhnull1, hey folk guess what?.. if the U.S and Mexico don't work on this together, and people don't stop thinking like you as is not your problem, then it will become yours when all the violence that take place in Mexico every single day moves to your neighboor.

I'm a bit dissapointed in Newsweek and other real news sources as well. They have been fooled by Fox into thinking that the 90% estimate is a recent invention. If you look on the internet it is very easy to realize that the 90% estimate has been around for several years.... Even during the Clinton and Bush administrations.

So not 90% of the guns (total)...just 90% of the guns used for CRIME...hmmmm and the difference is....

No, not 90% of the guns used for crime, nitwit. It is 90% of the guns that are traceable, which is not surprising. Only guns from the US would be traceable. The vast majority of the weapons in Mexico are cheap guns brought in from Eastern Europe and China. Why would someone buy a ridiculously expensive gun from the US when they can get one for a hundred bucks elsewhere? You anti-gun nitwits don't have any common sense whatsoever.
