The same issue with treatment of terrorist captives: America and Americans first and foremost, next in line human beings, then the animals and climate since we are not even sure that we could even affect the climate on demand like millenia of plain survival has changed it!

Someone needs to explain to Ms Carter that if our animals become extinct, we will follow.

You are clueless. There is no danger of our animals gong extinct. Which ones would you choose to save no matter what? Species have been going extinct for millions of years. It is the natural order. Concentrating on the concrete heat sinks of the big cities makes much more sense. You arrogant elitists expect working class people to sacrifice their jobs so you can feel good about saving obscure species. That is a strategy that will surely fail. It really doesn't matter to an unemployed person whether the polar bears are thriving, and they ARE thriving, by the way. Their population has doubled in the last thirty years. You people just eat up every environmental disaster scenario that comes along. Eventually common sense will prevail.

I don't think she is trying to "compete" with animals. The writer was being provocative in the opening line, but Majora is saying that the average person is not likely to care about polar bears, so we have to value new communication vehicles to get them involved - and that means jobs and public health. I have heard her say that if we treat all people with environmental respect than the polar bears will do just fine.

I think what your doing is very good for a lot of people. I wish you all the success. But your do not have to compete with the animals. It is two different things you seem to put in the same category. There are plenty of people making it a horrific life for 97% of the animals world wide. I would ask you to stay with your mission and not undermine others. The animals are not insignificant, just different. Thank you!
