God yes it's time. The zealotry factor is offensive.
If only it were so. Why it may be time to give up the one-day-a-year celebration.

Mr. Stone, you are a dishonest man. I have a copy of that Newsweek article from the 1970s. You state, "Was the Earth, NEWSWEEK wondered in the 1970s, getting colder???or was it getting warmer?" It does not state that. In fact it clearly was convinced that we were entering an Ice Age as a result of manmade activities. This is what is wrong with jounalism. Journalists don't need to have facts any more - much like scientists don't need facts. I was introduced to the Scientific Method in sixth grade. What passes for science now would have earned me a failing grade in Mrs. Crawford's class. Is Global Warming real? I don't know. If it is, I'd like to know. But I sure can't trust journalists like you or scientists who have an agenda to get a government grant.
I wouldn't count Earth Day out just yet. This guy has some pretty innovative ideas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIljTMuknI0
